Smoking and You

How do you guys feel about smoking in general? I'm not talking about weed or cocaine or those kinda drugs (though they're just as bad) but smoking cigarettes and so forth.

Do you feel annoyed when someone lights up a cigarette and smokes in front of you?

Do you feel the need to tell them to go smoke elsewhere?

Or you don't really care?

Paris has started to ban smoking outside their cafes. Hard considering most Parisans smoke and drink a lot.

I'm anti-smoking, of course. I've seen first hand what oral cancer can do to your mouth and believe me, it isn't a pretty sight. Smoking is bad for you, bottom line but people do it all the time. It boggles the mind that cigarette companies like Philips Morris work so hard to remove (edit) all these negative publicity against them yet endorsed smoking anyways. I just don't get it.

Anyways, I don't mean to offend the smokers of this forum. Just after some honest opinions.

The only time smokers really annoy me is when they light up while I'm eating.

  So freakin gross!

Have a little consideration!

I hate smokers (no due respect) mainly because I'm allergic and I live in a smoking state where having teens smoke is a okay.  We had a cig tax voted down because most of my state are smokers so they're like well we don't want the govt to have more money to stop a thing we love.

where I work people smoke and it ticks me off the smoke gets into my car, on my clothes, everything.
Everyone smokes here and then when I went to Seattle for a week last year I only saw one girl lighting it up and she was all be herself because everyone I talked to hate smokers.

I don't mind smokers as long as they don't blow right infront of my face.  I have a few friends who smoke and all of them have been very considerate about either smoking outside (away from me) or blow in the direction of the wind and not towards me.  Even in public, I notice that people don't blow their smoke around you and blow in the other direction.

Yup, it's unhealthy, it's stinky, it makes your teeth yellow, but I will never try to prevent someone from smoking or lecture them unless their smoking effects me. I don't like the smell. I'm sensitive to particles and whatnot so if someone smokes near me it hurts my nose and eyes. Doesn't take much.

It must suck to be a smoker in a state like california where you are ostracized and have almost nowhere to do your dirty deed, but the bottom line is you have a right to do as you please to your own body but not to anyone else's.

P.S. Thank You For Smoking was an OUTSTANDING film!

And I will dwell in the house of coffee forever.

I smoke. I just shrug my shoulders with all this legislation. Its common sence anyhow. I agree with no smoking in restaurants and bars, not everyone smokes. In bars there can be a smoking room, good enough. I dont like the fact that they are banning smoking on patios, its like the last place I can smoke outdoors, but what I want doesnt seem to matter so Ill just live with it.

I hate people that smoke aound eating.. I would never do that to anyone else.

If Im in a group of people and I want to smoke Ill move away and smoke, and blow the smoke away. I will not light up while in the middle of a group.

I also do not smoke indoors. Outdoors.

I don't really care.  My smoker friends all smoke outdoors, and I don't mind that.  I've never had a guest want to smoke inside my house, so that's never been a problem!!

I tried tobacco for about 5 minutes in high school. Weed on the other hand...that was the 90s! *sigh*.

I love my lungs too much, had to give that up.

I don't care who smokes, just not in my face.

Calgary finally went smoke free on January 1 in bars and restaurants. Even no smoking on patios. Next January, the by-law will include all public places including casinos.

Sportsdude

we have no smoking laws whatsoever you can smoke anywhere and everywhere.  When towns go anti smoking people protest.

Some of the bars here got together and tried to appeal the decision. Today, it was shot down in flames!

The Court of Queen's Bench has denied an attempt by some Calgary businesses to force the city to change the smoking bylaw.

The court ruled the city was within its rights to grant an exemption to bingo halls and casinos.

Some bars and restaurants were arguing that because they had VLTs they should be considered the same as other gambling facilities and allow their patrons to smoke until 2008.

Lawyers for the group argued that the revenues from VLTs in bars go into the same provincial revenue fund and therefore bars should be given the same exemption.

The City argued that special status could be given to non-profit groups under the Municipal Government Act.

The judge agreed with the city and ruled against the group, which was headed by Filos Restaurant.

He wrote the bylaw "was not passed for the purpose of adversely affecting the applicant's economic prospects."

The group hasn't yet decided whether it will launch an appeal.

Instead of it getting denied like in Calgary here its approved and city officials roll over. People still smoke inside gas stations.  When I was born they finally banned smoking in grocery stores but my parents remember that a lot of people protested that as well.

We are a smoking nation here.  Smoking rates have gone up where I live.

What I find confusing is the person who started this thread doesn't like smoking, but is very smmmooookin'!

Im a smoker and I dont think there should be smoking at indoor places.. UNLESS theres a separate smoking room like in bingo halls and some bars.

Restaurants are a no go with me. No smoking inside.

Patios I think should be smoking as they are outside, but have half smoking and half not. Smokers have to go somewhere.. LOL

They have smoking in restaurants. Nothing is blocked off its pathetic.  They just have a 'fan' or something but when the person lights up the entire room smells it.

I talk to an Applebee's bartender all the time and he said after 10 years the greatest day in his life was when my city banned smoking in restaurants.  His breathing problems have gone away.  (meanwhile people were pissed when my little city banned smoking revenue has dropped.)

I smoke, and who cares. 20 years ago everybody smoked, and now it's gross.

  Don't hate.
