I saw this and just had to post it. Sounds like a real fun place to live if you're into that good old fashioned hate and discrimination thing. Remember, my god is bigger than your god!

A former marine who was raised by nuns and made a fortune selling pizza has embarked on a £230m plan to build the first town in America to be run according to strict Catholic principles.

Abortions, pornography and contraceptives will be banned in the new Florida town of Ave Maria, which has begun to take shape on former vegetable farms 90 miles northwest of Miami.

Tom Monaghan, the founder of the Domino's Pizza chain, has stirred protests from civil rights activists by declaring that Ave Maria's pharmacies will not be allowed to sell condoms or birth control pills. The town's cable television network will carry no X-rated channels.

The town will likely be laid out in a circle, with a modest dome in the centre. Sounds like a wedge issue people can sink their teeth into. Hope he's better at making towns than he was at making pizzas.

I'm so there if I can get a pizza in the shape of a cross.
Always end the name of your child with a vowel, so that when you yell the name will carry.

Of course it will never happen. Once you become a town you have to conform to the Bill of rights etc.

Now you can have a big farm with lots of people, so long as you adhere to local building codes, but it won't be a town.

The Bhagwan Shree Rashneesh (sp?) did this in Oregon, that may be what you're thinking of. Yes, they moved in and voted out the most of the elected figures. They literally took over the town, and they also hatched a plot to poison people. One short blurb on them:

well not exactly he could try to make it an indian reservation, but then again he's not indian. But he's trying to build it in Florida the wackiest state in the union. I bet Jebby will get behind this because it would violate Florida and US law but if it has backing by a bush, well consider it a go.

On the subject of pizzas, interestingly enough I like Domino's the most. Pizza Hut is too greasy and salty. And Panagos is kinda blah. [/DIV] [/DIV]Maybe theres a direct correlation between the tastiness of a pizza and the Catholic-iness of the franchise?
