Your beef technique sounds fantastic.  Funny....I only tolerate a roast beef dinner, just so I can have beef dip the next night.  Love the beef dip.

I'm not very good with the oven roasts.  (love them, though!)

I'm going to blame my oven.  LOL.

I've got a pot roast in the crock pot today.  Browned it in some oil.  Threw in tomato sauce, garlic cloves, wine, thyme branches and the jus from the defrost.

Russ

The new ovens make it super easy to do roasts.. I just stick my probe in the roast and set the oven at 325.. with the probe to 118. The oven makes all sorts of annoying beeps when it hits an internal temp of 118 and shuts off. I used to stick a probe in and watch the probe through the door.

I LIKE roasts.. as long as they are juicy enough and not dry (read blood running down my chin). As long as the horseradish is hot enough.

Well, I still have the fish thawing.. they are still too frozen for dinner. So it will be delivery pizza for din din. With dipping sauce of ranch.. of course. lol.

Hey Russ, I also have one of those slow cookers where you stick the probe in and set the temp.  I haven't used the temp feature yet.

How's everyone doing?  Any plans for the weekend?

I'm feeling much better about having GD.  My results were not that bad either.  I just have to monitor what I eat, which I don't mind at all because I can see it helping me lose the pregnancy weight very quickly.  There are lots of foods that I can't eat anymore like no fruit juices, no sweets, no honey (I have it with tea), no Timmies Iced Capps, ice cream....  They gave me a glucose machine and can you believe that the testing strips for a pack of 100 costs $84 at Shoppers but I was able to find it for $73 (plus tax) at Costco!!  This is very pricey for me right now.  I had no idea I'd have to spend that much money on this.

that's pretty expensive....I thought everyone in Canada gets free medical.   I've Type 2 diabetes and my insurance coverage provides 3 months supply of the test strips for free each time I call for refill.  I test myself at most once a week...if only we live in the same city together you could have mine.

I've never understood why people think medical is free in Canada.  It's not free.  I know it doesn't compare to the 'destroy your life' kind of costs that can happen in the States...but something you get a monthly bill for is not free.

I've always called it two-tiered when someone wants to rant at me down here. You have your basic coverage that is being dwindled away by governments and the rest is covered by a second health plan by your employer.

Both countries have the same problem with ERs, which causes the usual "oh my god look at them!" moment down here.
Then, they'll use the waiting list line. It's a 6mth wait to see one of my old spetgwpdts down here, when for me, the same person up in Canada, was only 4 weeks and now I can see the person every week, if I wanted. People aren't being smart, because they refuse to actually attain knowledge on the issues.

Elective surgery means not urgent and elective, if the anti-coverage groups trot out someone down here with a horror story, its always someone who couldn't have an elective surgery, a surgery that wasn't serious.

And now the urgent care has become too expensive so only place you can go now is the ER. welcome to the 8hr wait.

Its common sense, if a young person breaks their knee cap tomorrow, they don't require a total knee replacement.

That's not even the 'debate' here, its now about obama nazi and sotgwpdm, yet, the people complaining are on medicare usually. Turn off your prophets on the radio and educate yourself. These people won't.

Second health plan covered by your employer ?  Is that where you are or here ?  I didn't know they did that in the States.

I thought canadian residents do not pay for medical coverage other than thru taxes

two tied that SD is referring to, I think he meant people with private medical insurance vs the low and unemployed people who are covered by Medical (government furnished)

....low income and unemployed

I was... uh... talking about Canada....

  Oh.

One is not automatically covered by an employer, simply by being employed.  It is optional that an employer might choose to cover.  Even at that, it is still coming out of the employees pay.  Those who are not covered by their employers, are billed monthly.

aka just like in the states.

'health benefits'

I've had the best coverage in my life from the university.

majority of bankruptcies in the us are due to medical reasons.

Lil Me

I pay basic MSP (@$105.00/mo) myself.

I recently negotiated extended health benefits (basic medical/dental) in lieu of a raise.  The boss pays about $200/mo for that.
