Adam, there's no pay. Mods don't even get T-shirts    :(
IMO, two kinds of people become mods at DV. People who are genuinely interested in improving the community and willing to put up with loads of garbage to that end, and people who use it to boost their own egos and add a sense of control to their pathetic lives.

As far as Jeff's suggestion, I agree completely. Unfortunately, some things are beyond my control.

 I see. Those are broad reasons.

  I do some moderating myself, but it specifically for a screenwriting forum.  Truth is, the extreme hostility of DV people stops me from posting the link to that forum (are they representative of the population? Are the writers, directors, actors,  and others who I associate with in person or on internet simply more friendly than most people? With them it is not a given that I should have a handle).[/DIV]

Well, yeah, that's why I said people who mod at DV. I mean, in the larger sense, people mod for all sorts of reasons. At DV, the environment is so damned...extreme, that I think it narrows the field a bit. I mean, it takes a special kind of person to make it as a DV mod (and not necessarily in a good way).

I wouldn't imagine you get too many recurrant trolls at a screenwriting forum, hey?

Someone posted under that sack of dumbness' nick on DV saying that they were her. Others there were claiming that academe is X.

  Sorry to bring this thread back to an unpleasant topic. She is just so annoying it makes me super pissed off. Visceral hatred feels weird!

    Hmmm.  Hatred seems a little strong.  Academe annoyed me, sure, a moth circling my lamp might (even scared me. The image that comes to mind is that woman in the movie, "Misery") -- totally unprovoked, she posted crap with my alleged name, as but hatred is something I feel for very few.  Gawd, my life of trainwrecks, fiascos, and bumbling escapades -- so many that I'm numb to them  -- hardly puts me in a position to play the judge.

Nah. But it makes losers like acadummy who have nothing better to do feel all important and special. It basically just gives her something to do.

I guess my point is that what kind of drugs do you have to be on to make a mod out of somebody who posts like that. I mean, it's goes beyond the bad judgment involved in selling Babe Ruth to the Yankees.
