Step 1
[p style="text-align: center;"][img]vny!://gadgets.qj.net/uploads/articles_module/39381_01_380_qjgenth.jpg" alt="001" onclick="window.DOH!('/uploads/articles_module/39381_01_380.jpg')" style="cursor: pointer; margin-top: 2px; margin-bottom: 2px;" align="middle" border="0" height="200" width="200"]
[/p]Using the wooden strips, make a box around the glass plate. Seal off the edges using the window cement. Make sure everything is air tight.

Step 2
[p style="text-align: center;"][img]vny!://gadgets.qj.net/uploads/articles_module/39381_02_380_qjgenth.jpg" alt="002" onclick="window.DOH!('/uploads/articles_module/39381_02_380.jpg')" style="cursor: pointer; margin-top: 2px; margin-bottom: 2px;" align="middle" border="0" height="200" width="200"]
[/p]Place your record inside the box making sure that the portion to be copied is facing upward. Squeeze in some window cement to mark where the hole in the record is.

Step 3
[p style="text-align: center;"][img]vny!://gadgets.qj.net/uploads/articles_module/39381_03_380_qjgenth.jpg" alt="003" onclick="window.DOH!('/uploads/articles_module/39381_03_380.jpg')" style="cursor: pointer; margin-top: 2px; margin-bottom: 2px;" align="middle" border="0" height="200" width="200"]
[/p]Mix the silicone (Smooth On OOMOO 30 or OOMOO 25) for about 3 minutes before pouring in to the mold.

Step 4
[p style="text-align: center;"][img]vny!://gadgets.qj.net/uploads/articles_module/39381_04_380_qjgenth.jpg" alt="004" onclick="window.DOH!('/uploads/articles_module/39381_04_380.jpg')" style="cursor: pointer; margin-top: 2px; margin-bottom: 2px;" align="middle" border="0" height="200" width="200"]
[/p]Pour in the mixture. Start from one corner and let it fill-up the mold to about half a centimeter. Make sure it's even. Let it dry for 6 hours.

Step 5
[p style="text-align: center;"][img]vny!://gadgets.qj.net/uploads/articles_module/39381_05_380_qjgenth.jpg" alt="005" onclick="window.DOH!('/uploads/articles_module/39381_05_380.jpg')" style="cursor: pointer; margin-top: 2px; margin-bottom: 2px;" align="middle" border="0" height="200" width="200"]
[/p]Peel off the silicone from the cast. Cut off the excess using a cutter.

Step 6
[p style="text-align: center;"][img]vny!://gadgets.qj.net/uploads/articles_module/39381_06_380_qjgenth.jpg" alt="006" onclick="window.DOH!('/uploads/articles_module/39381_06_380.jpg')" style="cursor: pointer; margin-top: 2px; margin-bottom: 2px;" align="middle" border="0" height="200" width="200"]
[/p]Pour the liquid plastic (Smooth On Task #4) on top of the silicone cast.

Step 7
[p style="text-align: center;"][img]vny!://gadgets.qj.net/uploads/articles_module/39381_07_380_qjgenth.jpg" alt="007" onclick="window.DOH!('/uploads/articles_module/39381_07_380.jpg')" style="cursor: pointer; margin-top: 2px; margin-bottom: 2px;" align="middle" border="0" height="200" width="200"]
[/p]Make sure that nothing spills over the round form. You can also brush off any air bubbles that might occur.

Step 8
[p style="text-align: center;"][img]vny!://gadgets.qj.net/uploads/articles_module/39381_08_380_qjgenth.jpg" alt="008" onclick="window.DOH!('/uploads/articles_module/39381_08_380.jpg')" style="cursor: pointer; margin-top: 2px; margin-bottom: 2px;" align="middle" border="0" height="200" width="200"]
[/p]Carefully loosen the plate from the silicone form. Using a drill press, bore a hole through the center of the plate. You can use the silicone form as a template to make more copies.

There you have it. Your very own pirated record!

The real trouble with reality is that there's no background music.

No way. Does that work on a record player? I mean.... who has a record player these days?

i still have a turn table. and i actually still have alot of lp's and 45's. no 8 track tapes tho.

i presume it works but i doubt the sound would be any good. i remember playing my record with a cactus needle in a styrofoam cup just for fun and it actually works.

It's possible. That's the beauty of old physical technologies. Making records is essentially that same concept as painting with potatoes. I'm not sure how good the technique above would sound, but it's based upon the same principles that have always made records possible.

Once upon a time, there were things called "flexi-discs" that were nothing more than a thin sheet of plastic. You could get broadcast quality sound out of them, although they didn't last long.
