I seem to recall something similar where a teddy bear was mailed to people in various parts of the world and they passed it on.  It had been around the world by the time it got back to the original owner.  It's rather a fun idea, and a way of connecting with far-away places.
Thousands of years ago cats were worshipped.  They have not forgotten.

  It traveled all the way to our school in Sydney, Australia. The teachers showed the bear to everyone then wrote something on the book that came with the bear. That is one cool bear.
