Kevin Christopher Bollaer operated a 'revenge porn' web site. He also ran a second web site that solicited payments of $250 to $350 from people who wanted to have the photographs deleted. All in all, Bollaert made about $30,000 on that site.
In February Bollaert was found guilty of six counts of extortion (stemming from the 2nd site) and 21 counts of identity theft. He faced a maximum of 23 years but was ultimately sentenced
to 18 years in prison.
So...an 18 year sentence has 157,680 hours in it, which (assuming a profit of $30K) works out to just under
20 cents an hour. Brilliant business plan ya got there, Kevin.
(Personally, I find an 18-year sentence for this a bit much. I mean,
you can rape and/or murder someone and not get this much time. 5 years for what he did would have seemed about right to me. )
