Apparently DS needs more 'Rate my pic' threads.

  Be gentle.

Hey TehBorken !!!!

I was wondering if there is still a link to the OLD DS.  It's a question I've been meaning to ask for a while (and be darned if I can think of WHY at this particular moment...lol), but I'm still curious.
#273
Is there anything I can do ?  The last couple days have been extremely slow to post.  Mostly it just hangs there, and I can't post at all.  Any suggestions ?

I'm having a beggar of a time posting.  Minutes (many minutes) between clicking on a topic before it comes up.....when it does.  Mostly I'm getting just a white screen.[img onmouseover="this.style.backgroundColor='#C6D3EF';this.style.border='1px solid #3169C6'; " style="BORDER-RIGHT: #3169c6 1px solid; BORDER-TOP: #3169c6 1px solid; BORDER-LEFT: #3169c6 1px solid; CURSOR: pointer; BORDER-BOTTOM: #3169c6 1px solid; BACKGROUND-COLOR: #c6d3ef" onclick="InsertImage('/forums/richedit/smileys/Sad/9.gif');" onmouseout="this.style.backgroundColor=''; this.style.border=''" src="http://discoverseattle.net/forums/richedit/smileys/Sad/9.gif" align=absMiddle]

I'm a charitable person, and do my best to donate wherever, whenever and whatever I can.

However, I am sick to death of getting frisked at every check-out.  I've tried explaining to the stores involved, that asking me to give money IS NOT DONATING.  It's closer to begging.  I did a little shopping yesterday, and made my way through the check-outs 5 times. (twice in one store and 3 others).

"Would you like to 'donate' a dollar to .......(charity of their choice)".  First store...."Certainly" I said.

Second store...."Sure, OK".  Back to first store (within an hour....same check-out, same clerk)...."Are you kidding me?  Whatever !"  Fourth store...."Ummmm.......Well, I'm getting a litttle tired of this, but OK".   Fifth store...." NO !!!!"  Needless to say, clerk 5 has no idea I'm a nice person.

Is anybody else getting annoyed with this form of 'donating', or is it possible I'm not as nice as I think I am ?

I know the weather is fine....and sitting on the computer has fallen onto the back burner, but certain presences are MISSED.  I miss my daily chuckle..... voice of reason (or voice of something that makes me re-think MY reason).   WHERE ARE YOU TENKANI......Is your absence weed related????

This is cool.....I know there are a ton of these types of enigmas, and that there is most likely some kind of formula, but they still never cease to amaze me.  (I'm amused easily.

  Try it.

How many of you have a family member that doesn't speak to you (or visa versa) ?

How long has it been going on, and how did it start ?

Good summer songs........names of songs that make you KNOW it's summer.

Favourite summer foods.  (please include recipes)

  Grilled Caesar Salad

Trim off 4 or 5 inches off the top of a head of Romaine Lettuce.

Quarter lengthwise.  Brush with olive oil and grill on the bar-B for a couple minutes on each side.

Dress with your favourite recipe of Caesar Dressing....sprinkle with Parmesan and croutons.

I know it sounds disgusting.....but it's amazingly good.  Yum !

Words DO have incredible power. In some ways we are little more than incredibly complex computers, filled with programming we aren't even ourselves aware of, but can rise to the surface unexpectedly because of a few harsh words.

That said, we can take control of our lives by refusing to associate with people that use words to harm and manipulate. Until you can learn to become the "Zen master" and maintain perfect internal control, you can work on controlling the outside world and your place in it.

Looking for plans to build a water feature.  This is as close to the look I want that I can find.  Mostly I want to know what equipment and materials I would need.

Does anyone know if there is a way to save e-mail messages to a disk ?

There are no options to save or send to  anywhere outside of Outlook Express.  Is there any way around this ?  (please pardon me if this is a stupid question)

Can someone decipher this for me ????

  Meal Breaks
An employee must not work more than five hours in a row without a 30-minute unpaid meal break. An employee who is required to work or be available for work during a meal break must be paid for the meal break.

Employers are not required to provide coffee breaks.

This is not the original 'code' I came across the first time, but I can't seem to find it again.

It went something like this:

  1) an employee must not work more than five hours in a row without a 30 minute meal break.

  2)  (can't remember this one)

  3)  if an employee must work through their 30 minute break they must be paid....(duh)

Now THIS is where I'm confused.  If you must have a 30 minute break after 5 hours but have to WORK through this 30 minute break, you must be paid.  This sounds so redundant to me.

Can anyone shed some light on this...it's making me mental with it's stupidity.

OK....I know this is probably something nobody else has any interest in....but tonight I sit in a room that I have been working on since just after Christmas.  (Hubby thought it was cute to bring home this giant flat TV right out of the Jetsons....into a room full of antiques....I said  uh uh)

So we took our dining room (biggest room in the house, and used the least) and turned it into a lounge.  I painted the walls black (yes...black) and all the window trim ivory.  I repurposed  a set of little round wrought iron tables  that had folksie fruit painted on each one, and painted a zebra pattern on them.  We built a bar, and matched the stain to our computer furniture, and did some major juggling.....and tonight is our 'opening' of the Ebony lounge.

So.....now that I've finished blowing my horn, I thought this would make a great thread for evening 'chat'.  Kinda like the lunch thread, but for the evening posters.  So if there is a thread that we don't feel like 'hi-jacking', just to say hey to someone....we can do it here.

Hey, FC....how's it going.  (see ???  like that)

Has anyone done this ?  I can't believe a google search is not turning up this info.

I'm trying to figure out how to get that 'beveled edge' on the corners of arborite.  Is this just done with a router or is it planed ????    Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Just a simple curiosity.

I am amazed at how many left handed people there are.

It came to me when I used to work at a golf course, and the huge percentage of left handed golfers....or golfers who are left handed. (there's a difference.....A lot of left handed people golfed right handed)  It became apparent when we were constantly running out of left hand club rentals.  The Golf Association 'guidelines' says that only 5% of golfers are left handed....and in my experience, it was MUCH greater.

I'm less curious about if you golf....just left hand or right handed, period.

A friend of mine who had their home broken into a couple months ago has just discovered that some important files were 'removed' from his computer.

Someone mentioned to me some time ago, that there is a program that will retrieve 'lost' documents, but I can't remember what it's called.

Is there anyone who can help me with this ???

I just tried to post a pic of a smiling kitty on the 'Just pics' thread.

An error message came up that said I had already posted that picture...and that I may have double clicked.  But in place of the kitty picture was a porn picture.  ?????????? What's happening ??

After saying a few things, that I knew beforehand that I would delete, I really felt it is a luxury with the potential of becoming abused.   (can't think of a better term).  I did it, but it really felt like cheating.  Removing ones own comments renders the thread nonsensical. The person who had responded to your posts gets left behind looking like they were engaged in a conversation with themselves (making them look undeservedly foolish). (I did that too....although I felt the need to warn the poster that I was going to in fact, 'remove' a couple comments I had made).

I think that all responses should have some thought behind them, and that the poster should be accountable for what they have said.   Am I off base here, or does anybody agree ???
