Do you guys prefer the upright or the canister?
Oh, and how many AMPS is good? 12, 14? I don't want to spend so much on one and there are way too many to chose from these days.
Is it being sick?
I am no expert on vacuums. Mine is a hand me down from my mom. But it seems to work good.
I imagine it would depend on the size of your house?
I am not sure of good new brands. Interesting thread, because I will probably be in the market soon.
Is that from Teletubbies, LM?
Hahhaa....looks like the SnuffleUpagus.
I prefer cannister....but I have stairs and hard floors. Uprights are useless for both.
What kind of vacuums do you guys use?
One of each.
If you right click and save as on the picture it comes up as NooNoo???
As for vacuums.. Ive gone in a different direction. I think I posted somewhere in a thread on here about what happened to my last vacuum. But I ended up getting something like this.. its multifunctional.
[A href="http://www.homedepot.ca/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/CatalogSearchResultView?D=944687&Ntt=944687&catalogId=10051&langId=-15&storeId=10051&Dx=mode+matchallpartial&Ntx=mode+matchall&recN=0&N=0&Ntk=P_PartNumber"]http://www.homedepot.ca/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/CatalogSearchResultView?D=944687&Ntt=944687&catalogId=10051&langId=-15&storeId=10051&Dx=mode+matchallpartial&Ntx=mode+matchall&recN=0&N=0&Ntk=P_PartNumber[/A]
Yes, that's the NooNoo from Teletubbies....the "parental" figure in the show, for those of you without kids.
I like the high-powered electric broom on a stick. Mind you, I don't have carpets right now. The last one I bought wassomewhere in the $80-range at StupidStore.
I've gone through several iterations of hand-me-down DirtDevil upright vacuums. They work fine for both carpet and floor.
There is a huge price range in vacuums. I believe the difference is this: If you buy an economical one from Costco, London Drugs, Stupidstore- it will last you 2-5 years. If you buy an expensive one (Electrolux, Kenmore, etc.) it will last damn near forever. My friend's mom found a premium vacuum cleaner at a garage sale-- it was UGLY...from the 1970s...but it was in great condition and destined to last forever.
uh huh, Russ.
Most of us don't bring the shop vac into the house....

But thats the point! Its multifuntional so you can use it for the garage AND the house!
I must admit at this point that my theory lasted for about ten days (? cant remember) but I ended up being encouraged to buy another vacuum, a mitsubishi upright. I still use the shopvac for the kitchen and bathroom though.
Sounds good. So if you spill a 4L milk or a pot of chili, go get the vacuum.

See! Another convert! Now we just need more of us to get used to this idea... where's Van? I think he will be receptive to this idea.
Actually, a shop vac isn't a bad idea. We've thrashed more than one household vacuum with wood shavings, metal shavings, drywall, etc.
The shop vac isn't pink. Not my style Russ. I know my dad has that for sure! LOL
Well, at least you are warming to the idea PL.
Its amazing how handy the shop vac is..
Russ- how easy is it to reverse the motor?
Can you blow the pot of spilled chili at your brother?

LOL don't mess with Lil Me.
I like shop vacs. Even the cheapest shop vacs seems to out-suck the more expensive vacuum cleaners.
Speaking of shop vacs, my parents brought one that is a smaller version of it and is just excellent for vacuuming the car. I always head down to my parent's just to use it to clean my car. :)

I love the sound of bagpipes. (http://discoverseattle.net/forums/richedit/smileys/Happy/12.gif)
I don't know what it is, but when I hear them, they always seem to make me weep. (no jokes here)
They just seem to tap into something melancholy... or something.
Well now you do. (http://www.vpsingles.com/pics/bagpipe.gif)
lol Michel. Funny thing about bagpipes. People either love em or hate em. There seems to be very little middle ground with them.
March! March! Ettrick and Tevot-dale,
Why my lads dinnaye march forward in order
March! March! Eskdale and Liddesdale!
All the blue bonnets are over the border
Awww...don't cry Michel.

Hey you two! Cut it out and quit bugging each other!
Yes Mother Me. I mean Lil Me.
Sorry Michel. I was only trying to help.
Was not, was not, was not.
I seem to have heard those words before. Be careful, Michel - in a few minutes she'll be throwing a tantrum in your direction.

ROTFL. You guys!!!! (http://discoverseattle.net/forums/richedit/smileys/Happy/4.gif)
Back to the original question before it dissolved into something x-rated - I prefer the canister. I guess I kinda like the idea of this power machine following my heel wherever I go.
My stupid vacumn cleaner is probably on its last legs but I can't seem to let it go. Snapped at the swivel head (now held by duct tape) and cord won't go all the way in. Maybe I'll start thinking about buying when it literally falls apart next year.
I had to buy a new vacuun cleaner resently I was looking at the Dyson's at Costco, but decided on the Kemore direct drive upright instead. I researched on Consumer Reports website an it seemed to be the best vacuum and a very good price too.
purelife, Olsen on your side, is doing a little consumer thing on the CTV news tonight at 6. They're usually brief, but sometimes you get a few tips out of it.
I missed it... :( I was sitting in traffic at that time...

What about Chris Olsen's briefs?
I'm not sure Lil Me.....but I think he said Fruit of the Loom sucks. So skip the vacuum cleaner and just dust with some old undies. At least I think I heard that right.
ugly mental image of Chris Olsen dusting in his underwear.
Ick.
I'll bet he wears white briefs that are pulled up as high as his armpits.
Michel.....if you have to unzip your pants to blow your nose.....it's time for a wardrobe revamp.
They will tell you that sometimes when you don't shave, you look like a cat.

Here is his site on his report yesterday: [A href="http://www.ctvbc.ca/servlet/an/local/CTVNews/20080404/BC_olsen_vacuums_080404/20080404/?hub=BritishColumbiaHome"]http://www.ctvbc.ca/servlet/an/local/CTVNews/20080404/BC_olsen_vacuums_080404/20080404/?hub=BritishColumbiaHome[/A]
He used the same Consumer Reports information I had, so came up with the same results! :)
Thanks for the link JJ.
Guess what? Mr PL's mom brought a brand new vacuum for us! It's Dirt Devil upright bagless.... I tested it out and LOVE it.... She was going to give us her old one but then surprised us with a new one... how VERY nice of her. :)

Put this on your Craigslist ad. Ladies! I have a Power Stick with edge wedge.
pics please.
I thought mine was a Dirt Devil too. As a matter of fact, my friend asked me the other day what vacuum I have, and I told her it was a dirt devil. I just checked, and it isn't. Oops. I remember now, that I HAD a dirt devil, and I sold it at our garage sale last spring. The one I have now is a Hoover Windtunnel. I LOVE it. (hated my dirt devil) Had it for about 6 months and sold it.

My Porsche design vacuum:

Is it this one ? That's pretty jazzy looking.

In Consumer Reports the Samsung model was rated best in tie with Hoover product. The Samsung was priced lower and it has been sucking hard now for years.

Ahhhh....the picture didn't show up for me the first time I read your post. That's a slick looking unit. Maybe I should get one......it's the closest I'll ever come to owning a Porsche.[/DIV]

On the box and brochure they refer to it as "Porsche Design". The power head tube blocks the "front spoiler"!
