Look, it's your call, but IMO these people prey on the ignorance of their marks. They put the scam out there, knowing that 99% of folks will recognize it for what it is, but also knowing that the naive 1% can make them a fortune. By placing yourself in that 1%, you are helping to perpetuate the cycle. The "opportunity" you describe is not new. It's a well-known scam. The only people who benefit from pyramid schemes are those who initiate them.

As far as avatars go, here is the key...

Your avatar will be SQUARE, so if you try to link to a rectangular image (most images are rectangular, not square) it will be stretched to fit the new dimensions! In other words, the height/width ratio will be changed and your pic will look whacked out.

Your avatar will end up displaying as 65 pixels wide and high.

The absolute best way to handle it is to:

1. Open an image in Photoshop.2. Crop it so that it's square.3. re-size the image to 65 x 65 pixels. If you don't re-size in an image editing application, the message base software will do it for you, and the results can be...unpredictable.

Absolutely. Apart from the anonymity thing, if you make an enemy here, the worst they can do is spam your disposable account. Big deal.

The harm is that by participating in pyramid schemes, you are encouraging them. You would be supporting scam-artists, which would in turn lead to more Internet scams. LOL. Not too sure about that. I think most of us still visit DV fairly regularly. This is just a very nice alternative. MUCH better forum software and civilized conversation. Weeee...

I use Firefox and have been very happy with it overall. I keep IE around because every once in a blue moon I encounter a site that Fox can't display correctly.

I think some of the extensions for Firefox are a blast. There's one to quickly view a page in IE. I use fireFTP, which is decent (it's an FTP utility integrated into firefox as an extension). And there's a really fun extension called stumble, or stumbleupon I'm not sure which. Anyway, there's a huge database of sites submitted by Firefox users and categorized for your pleasure. You tell Firefox what subjects you're interested in and Stumble takes you to random sites that fall within the category. I've found some amazing things with this little gem.
