What were some things that you have won from draws, lottery, casino, 50/50, giveaways, prizes, contests etc?

One 6/49 I played, I matched the first four numbers. I was getting so fricken excited as I was circling  the first, then second, then third, then fourth............rats that was it, but I also matched the bonus number. I started thinking 4 numbers + bonus has to be worth a couple thousand anyways.

The bonus doesn't count on four numbers and four numbers is only worth $40.

Another lottery I played was a hospital lottery back in Wpg. First time buying a ticket. I won a Sony cordless phone. Sweet. That was 16 years ago. I've won diddley squat since playing every year since until a couple of years ago.

I have won a night's accommodation at the Empress Hotel including ferry trip. That was a nice touch. Haven't won anything yet.

My mother's won $5,000 based on my passport number. I haven't had much luck using the same number. Blast.

did you go?

Title: Re: Things you have won
Post by: P.C. on Jun 02 07 10:37
No.....actually, it was within a week or two after his return, that I met him.   AND...I met him because of his trip there.  I overheard his conversation about his experiences there, and they were so upbeat and positive....on the cusps of my sister having returning from basically the same trip, who had nothing good to say about anything.

I liked his outlook on things......and, well....the rest is history.
Title: Re: Things you have won

woah cool! When did he go on his trip?
Title: Re: Things you have won

It was '91.  He still talks about it with such enthusiasm.
Title: Re: Things you have won

Probably because he got to see Senna before he died.
Title: Re: Things you have won
Post by: P.C. on Jun 02 07 10:53
Welllll.....maybe so.  I wasn't captured by his blow by blow of the race itself.  It was his perspective on the graciousness of the people.  Wherever they went......they had a great time.  He had a clear understanding that he was the 'guest' in their country.  He knew it was HIS responsibility to be understood.....not THEIR responsibility to understand HIM.  My sister had a dreadful time, because she was 'put out' that they 'didn't make an effort' to understand HER.

lol about your sister. The french are like that but their rude stereotype is a little unjust in my opinion. They just have a lot of pride.

The French are rude arrogant asswipes. Wouldnt recommend anyone go there.

Well, I've always believed that for the most part, you get back what you give.....and that was what stood out to me about him, and what kind of guy he was.  That was not his experience at all.  He took an extra 3 weeks while he was over there and toured several countries.  He found people to be friendly and helpful wherever he went.
Title: Re: Things you have won
Post by: kitten on Jun 03 07 10:08
I've been to a couple of countries and was treated with kindness and politeness wherever I went.  You do get the sort of treament you give.  I wouldn't feel obliged to treat someone nicely if they kept insulting me and making demands.  So why should they?

Sorry for the absence, but it was so hot in the apartment even with all the fans going that I went outside on the patio for a few minutes.  It really is like sitting in a sauna in here.  Besides, with rain coming tomorrow I wanted to get the chairs and BBQ covered..  Thanks, SD and purelife for your congratulations on my promotion to administrator.  From what I unserstand, it's somewhat like a sewer cleaner in its importance.  Both have to clean up the stinky stuff to keep a place running smoothly.  I'm glad I was asked to do it.

A neighbour gave me a small fan the other day.  I just finished setting it up at my feet to cool them off.  It's awfully noisy though.  If it gets to be too much I'll be turning it off.

Post by: Sportsdude on Jun 03 07 07:31
ah, I never grew up with a house without a/c. The people who do here, end up on the news as heat fatalities.
Title: Re: Things you have won
Post by: kitten on Jun 03 07 07:33
When I grew up there was no such thing as air conditioning.  You wanted air, you opened the windows.  But the heat wasn't as intense as it is now.
Title: Re: Things you have won
Post by: Sportsdude on Jun 03 07 07:37
Yeah heat was the only thing that held up growth in Florida for years until the invention of the a/c.
My high school didn't have air conditioning and I couldn't concentrate it was too hot. took the air temperature in the upstairs hallways and it was over 105 F without the mass of students at their lockers.

Title: Re: Things you have won
Post by: kitten on Jun 03 07 07:39
That would be totally unbearable!
Title: Re: Things you have won
Post by: Sportsdude on Jun 03 07 07:43
yeah it wasn't pleasant. Think of a sauna in temperature wise with no air moving what so ever.
Title: Re: Things you have won
Post by: kitten on Jun 03 07 07:46
I can't use a sauna because of high blood pressure and a bad heart.  I pass out in them very quickly.
Title: Re: Things you have won
Post by: Sportsdude on Jun 03 07 07:48
yeah I can't stand the sauna's either, I start getting breathing problems and I don't have breathing problems, although when it gets really hot outside with high humidity I can't breathe. hmm
Title: Re: Things you have won
Post by: P.C. on Jun 03 07 09:24
Did somebody win a sauna?
Title: Re: Things you have won
Post by: kitten on Jun 03 07 09:26
No, we were just talking about the heat and humidity here.  Again, a misplaced topic.  My well-organized soul shrivels at the thought of yet another hijacked column.

I have never been able to make gravy.  I've tried and failed miserably.  Now if I want it I buy it. No hassle.  Not nearly as good tasting, but still gravy.

Chicken broth is easy.  Take a chicken, drag it through some water, add a lot of salt, can it and sell it for a lot of money.
