Discover Seattle! / computer scan
Apr 10 07 05:23
just came across this site that scans your computer to check to see if your computer is safe from hackers. im sure there are quite a bit of them out there.

  [A href="https://www.grc.com/x/ne.dll?bh0bkyd2"]https://www.grc.com/x/ne.dll?bh0bkyd2[/A]

from all indications, my computer is doing super well, however, i have no idea what i did.

But YOUR computer has DELIBERATELY CHOSEN NOT TO RESPOND (that's very cool!) which represents advanced computer and port stealthing capabilities.

Relative to vulnerabilities from Windows networking, this computer appears to be VERY SECURE since it is NOT exposing ANY of its internal NetBIOS networking protocol over the Internet.

[!----]• Recall of wet pet food made by Menu Foods for Wal-Mart, Kroger, PetsMart, others
• Undisclosed number of cats and dogs suffered vomiting, kidney failure; 10 died
• Recall affects specific sizes of Iams and Eukanuba brands of dog, cat food

WASHINGTON (AP) -- A major manufacturer of dog and cat food sold under Wal-Mart, Safeway, Kroger and other store brands recalled 60 million containers of wet pet food Friday after reports of kidney failure and deaths.

An unknown number of cats and dogs suffered kidney failure and about 10 died after eating the affected pet food, Menu Foods said in announcing the North American recall. Product testing has not revealed a link explaining the reported cases of illness and death, the company said.

"At this juncture, we're not 100 percent sure what's happened," said Paul Henderson, the company's president and chief executive officer. However, the recalled products were made using wheat gluten purchased from a new supplier, since dropped for another source, spokeswoman Sarah Tuite said. Wheat gluten is a source of protein.

[A name=1][/A][A name=rv4][/A]
'Cuts and gravy' food sold in cans, pouches recalled
The recall covers the company's "cuts and gravy" style food, which consists of chunks of meat in gravy, sold in cans and small foil pouches between December 3 and March 6 throughout the United States, Canada and Mexico.

The pet food was sold by stores operated by the Kroger Co., Safeway Inc., Wal-Mart Stores Inc. and PetSmart Inc., among others, Henderson said.

Menu Foods said it makes pet foods for 17 of the top 20 North American retailers. It is also a contract manufacturer for the top branded pet food companies, including Procter & Gamble Co.

Proctor & Gamble announced Friday the recall of specific 3 oz., 5.5 oz., 6 oz. and 13.2 oz. canned and 3 oz. and 5.3 oz. foil pouch cat and dog wet food products made by Menu Foods but sold under the Iams and Eukanuba brands. The recalled products bear the code dates of 6339 through 7073 followed by the plant code 4197, P&G said.

Menu Foods' three U.S. and one Canadian factory produce more than 1 billion containers of wet pet food a year. The recall covers pet food made at company plants in Emporia, Kansas, and Pennsauken, New Jersey, Henderson said.

Henderson said the company received an undisclosed number of owner complaints of vomiting and kidney failure in dogs and cats after they had been fed its products. It has tested its products but not found a cause for the sickness.

"To date, the tests have not indicated any problems with the product," Henderson said.

[A name=2][/A][A name=rv3][/A]
FDA also working to target brands
The company alerted the Food and Drug Administration, which already has inspectors in one of the two plants, Henderson said. The FDA was working to nail down brand names covered by the recall, agency spokesman Mike Herndon said.

Menu Foods is majority-owned by the Menu Foods Income Fund, based in Ontario, Canada.

Henderson said the recall would cost the company the Canadian equivalent of $26 million to $34 million.

Below are lists of specific brands recalled by Menu Foods, in addition to Proctor & Gamble's recall of certain Iams and Eukanuba products. Menu Brands lists the brands on its Web site, www.menufoods.com, and advises consumers to call 1-866-895-2708 for more information.

Hollywood moviemaker Steven Spielberg is to bring cartoon hero Tintin and pals Captain Haddock and Professor Calculus to life in a live action feature film, industry sources said Friday.

The maker of E.T: The Extra Terrestrial, Jaws and Raiders of the Lost Ark will re-enact the adventures the intrepid young reporter for Universal Pictures and his own production firm, DreamWorks Pictures.

"The project will definitely go ahead, we are just waiting for a deal on the rights to Tintin to be finalised," an industry source told AFP.

Spielberg and producing partner Kathleen Kennedy are negotiating for the rights to the character, created by Belgian cartoonist Herge in 1929, with the firm that holds them, Moulinsart.

The internationally-read comic strip Tintin has developed something of a cult following over the years, keeping sales of the books featuring the youth reporter and his partners in adventure strong.[BR clear=all]

Drunken Captain Haddock - who utters strings of exclamatory curses like "billions of bilious blue blistering barnacles - Professor Cuthbert Calculus, the investigator twins Thomson and Thompson and Tintin's faithful little dog Snowy are all expected to feature in the film.

Tintin, whose author's real name was Georges Remi, was first published in a weekly supplement of the Belgian newspaper Le Vingtieme Siecle and has been translated into more than 50 languages.

Several animated films of the cowlick-sporting reporter have already been made, but Hollywood has yet to try a live action film version.

Teacher had sex with 5 teens, police say

CLINTON, South Carolina (AP) -- A middle school teacher accused of having sex with at least five boys -- some of them students at her school -- was arrested, authorities said.

Police began investigating Allenna Williams Ward, 23, after school officials recovered a note containing inappropriate messages, said Clinton Public Safety Director John Thomas.

Ward, who is married, had sexual encounters with the 14- and 15-year-old boys at various locations, including in the school, at a motel, in a park and behind a restaurant, from December to this month, according to arrest warrants.

Some of the victims were students at Ward's school, Thomas said.

Ward was placed on administrative leave with pay last Thursday, acting district Superintendent Laura Koskela said. A message left for the school's principal was not immediately returned Wednesday.

Ward was charged with criminal sexual conduct with a minor and six counts of lewd acts on a minor, according to arrest warrants. She is being held in jail awaiting a bail hearing, police said.

wow. this is just beyond insane on the teachers/schools part...

BELLMEAD-   A four-year-old hugged his teachers aide and was put into in-school suspension, according to the father.  But La Vega school administrators have a different story.

Damarcus Blackwell's four-year-old son was lining-up to get on the bus after school last month, when he was accused of rubbing his face in the chest of a female employee.

The prinicipal of La Vega Primary School sent a letter to the Blackwells that said the pre-kindergartener demonstrated "inappropriate physical behavior interpreted as sexual contact and/or sexual harassment."

Blackwell says it's ridiculous that the aide would misread a hug from a four-year-old.  Blackwell wrote to administrators demanding that the whole incident be expunged from his son's academic file because his son is too young to know what it means to act sexually.

David Davis, the executive director of the Advocacy Center in Waco tends to agree with Blackwell.  He says assuming the boy has not had sexual encounters, or been inappropriately exposed to pornography, most four-year-olds are sexually innocent.

Blackwell got a response  from the La Vega administration.  The sexual references on the discipline referral were removed.  But the thing that makes Blackwell most upset is they told him "your request for an apology by the aide and removal of all paperwork regarding this incident is denied."  Now the young student's file will refer to the incident as "inappropriate physical contact."  And Blackwell says he will continue to fight the district.

if you believe what symantec is saying. firefox has more flaws than explorer...

Mozilla and Mozilla Firefox had the most vulnerabilities in the last six-month period but Turner says Explorer has the largest window of exposure — the time between the announcement of a vulnerability and the appearance of a patch to close the loophole.

For Explorer, the window stays open an average nine days, compared with just one day for Mozilla.
