Title: If
Post by: Gopher on Sep 28 09 11:57
First person asks a question beginning 'if', second person answers it and also asks a question beginning the same way - and so on and so forth

If you could live anywhere you choose, where would it be?

The kitchen and bathroom floors cleaned on your hands and knees. Then, the cupboards wiped down.

If I gave you $50 as a gift to you, what would you buy for yourself that you want, not need.

It was in the province newspaper yesterday and on some chinese newspapers and news services 3 - 5 days ago. I am afraid, I will arive at work and it will be all locked up, just like that ESL school on yesterdays news.

If you had the money time and inclination would you go back to school for a degree in something

Generally, having all three of those removes all obstacles. (time, money and inclination)

I know a lot of highly educated jobless people....and a lot of successful 'less educated' people.

If you had the power to implement one new law....what would it be.

the housing tenancy act. to enforce a rent freeze once more, rents are sky rocketing out of proportion and pricing many people out of a home rents on a basic 1 bd in DTES currently range from 700 - 800 impossible to afford nowadays. unless wage rates get a astronomical boost. rent is going to be half or more of many persons monthly income .

My dream vacation would start off with a luxury cruise to Ireland and a visit to every castle. I don't know why I have always felt like I am almost being seduced by it. Must be some connection in a past life.

If you had the opportunity to have an endless lifetime supply of something (money excluded)....what would it be.

Greed

If you had to lose one of your senses, which one would you choose?
Title: Re: If
Post by: Orik on Oct 01 09 07:12
Ouch Gopher that is a rough question...

I once lost my hearing for a period of time, I never fully recoverd it in both ears. but out of all my sences to give up I guess it would have to be the sence of smell. though that would mean losing some of my sence of taste... i can live with out a sence of smell in some ways but having been blind for a day and deaf for 2 weeks. not able to feel from the waist down for a brief period of time. i guess it has to be taste or smell next...

If you stole five hundred thousand dollars, what is the first thing you would do ?

My last name. I always wanted/longed to have a last name of Smith with the other 1,000+ people in the phone book, so I could be anonymous.

Have you ever wondered what life may have been for you, if you went the other direction in that proverbial 'fork in the road' at some point in your life?

Yes, I have wondered what it would have been like if I chose a different route after high school. But I don't wonder anymore because I wouldn't change a thing.

If you had to choose between saving your mother or fathers life and you can only pick one of them who would it be ?

Title: Re: If
Post by: Gopher on Oct 03 09 11:05
Well, because I knew her better, it would be my mother. Then again my father died very young and I never had the opportunity to know him properly. It's a tough one.

If you could choose, which piece of music would you like to hear as you were dying?
Title: Re: If
Post by: Sportsdude on Oct 03 09 02:21
J.S. Bach's Toccata and fugue in F major BMV or any piece my dad usually plays with him playing it in my head. So it would just be music between my dad and I and nobody else.
[a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qQi3d4dYvO8&feature=related"]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qQi3d4dYvO8&feature=related[/a]

For Easter he usually plays an entire Toccata at the end of the service after looking over the piece for 20mins or so in the morning.

For the anniversary of his childhood church turning 100 in Ohio, he was asked to give a concert as he was the 'best there ever was to play there" (from the age of 8 to 19). Played a piece that goes on for about 25 mins. I can't remember the name. I made a CD of it.

My 'if' question is rather long (again). There's many people in university I talk to these days who are doing 'what there parents want,' and not necessarily what they 'want' or have a passion for. If you could do it all over again, what would you have studied?

Title: Re: If
Post by: Lil Me on Oct 03 09 08:01
Interesting question because hindsight is 20/20!

I would have gone directly onto the accounting/MBA track. That was the field I originally got the bulk of my uni scholarship money in, but I chose the applied sciences field...which didn't go so well.

And now, 20 years later, I work in accounting and manage my own business on the side. *sighs*

I do have fleeting throughts of going to law school one day.

If I ever studied for the pure JOY of it, it would be social sciences. Econ, sociology and anthro.

If you were to live in a movie/tv setting, surrounded by those characters, which show would it be?
Title: Re: If
Post by: Sportsdude on Oct 03 09 08:31
Oh Lil Me that is a tough one!

Hmm depends on the mood, as I tend to like period pieces. But, if you want a film where I'd like to live in, it would have the french film [a href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0283900/"]L'auberge espagnole[/a] (2002)(they made sequels). Basically, it's european university twentysomethings from all over Europe coming together through the Eramus program (think student exchange), in Barcelona. You've got Germans, Brits, French, Spanish, Danish, Belgian and so on in one apartment.

If you could describe yourself through one film or television charcter, who would it be?

Title: Re: If
Post by: Orik on Mar 27 10 03:05
The medical system needs a complete restructuring.. right now in many ways hospitals and doctors are being paid for substandard elements. Our doctors nurses and hospitals need to be held accountable for the way they run things...

throwing more money at it wont solve the problems our medical system has... if the British and Swiss can get it to work so can we...mind the Swiss and British hospitals do not receive a single farthing or mark until they account for every cent they were given the year before...

they are given the Budget and must meet it... were is all the money that has been spent on health care actually going. that hospital administrative CEO with the 6 + figure a year salary is wrong... seriously even the doctors are being over paid in many cases over billing for services rendered that were not actually given...

I hate going to a doctors office and I am treated as a number and a bit of profit and not being treated as a human being pisses me off... But I see that happening in many of the clinics today were the patients are just another dollar

These clinics are treating as many people as they possibly can... I do not know whats worse, the loss of the family physician or that there is now more and more medical clinics set up to treat humans like animals in one massive converter belt loop.

These medical centers are not really designed to cure or help patients they are designed to earn a maximum profit by medicating as many people as they possibly can... and they get kick backs from prescription drug company's for prescribing certain medications they are given many free samples to distribute, often times those medications are not covered by pharmacare. so they make a tidy profit

often times there is a generic drug that does the job just as well if not better for 1/10 the price a case and example the doctor prescribes a typical pain medication tylenol 2's well fact 1. you do not need a prescription you can by this over the counter.. but the doctor wont get a kick back from Tylenol if he doesn't write it out...

for example the pain capsules 250 tablets of these over the counter pills cost from 40 to 60 dollars Tylenol name brand but for 200 of the exact same strength of product, but with a generic brand Ie London drugs brand acetaminophen with codien it costs only 8 to 12 dollars ok u get 50 less tablets but it is the exact same medication in every way except name and in looks.. and it is is major price difference.

often these medical clinic doctors prescribe medications in compliance to the company policy's so they can get a larger kick back for every prescription made.. and who gets these medications often it is seniors and the marginalized poor who in many ways are being used as lab rats for these new medications that are handed out in free samples at clinics...

and the medical clinics with the doctors they take a great percentage off government monopolized and subsidized payments and then they get kickback incentives from the pharmaceutical company's that gave them the free samples for prescribing these medications...

we the lab rats are people human beings but these mass clinics do not see us as that they see only lab rats and a profit to be made off people who often do not even need to be medicated...

you can see this happening everyday in the down town clinics every day in one door and out the next, mean while the government says lets throw more money at it.. or they take away needed services while giving back a red herring with the other hand...making it look like we got a sweet deal when in fact all we the people got was another shaft rammed up the back side

I do not blame the doctors but the government that tells the clinics which then dictates to the staff to throw some drugs at them and tell them to come back if they don't help and out the door, they we the people go, only to return, come back, the next week. So they the doctors and clinics can bill the tax payers another 75 dollars for a office visit that was not essential to our good health or well being...

and then the bleeding god damn hospital.. sheesh... but in britain and Switzerland doctors hospitals and nurses are held accountable for every nickle they have.. right now to much money is spent on largess .. corporate banking and the tax system add greed to this and it is now common place to see bribery and corruption...

I know bribery and corruption is always a small part in today's society but to see it happening in the field of medicine is disturbing even our own politicians fly out side of Canada to get medical treatment because they are considered elite and figure they should not have to wait. ...

well that has to change and turning out of our medical system to sell to americans... idiot politicos talking out of there damn asses again... we need to have doctors and hospitals capable of treating our own first.. not some otehr f*cker. excuse my langauge...

That's a tough one Natasha. But I think I would pick an elderly man or woman. For many reasons. It would be sad to make to a ripe old age only to be taken by something like that. My logic would tell me children would be (should be) looked after by their parents. The young are strong.....but who to look out for the elderly. I think I would want to save someone's grandma or grandpa. (//forums/richedit/smileys/Happy/14.gif)

Nothing. Certain things in high school have given me the life I have now and I wouldn't chance changing those things for any reason what so ever.

Mid afternoon for about 2 hours.

If you had the means to do so, would you update your carpets/paint/mouldings/furniture.. or would you leave them if they were still looking good and working? As in leave them till they wear out more then do it bit by bit?

Why? It's one of my favorite cars.

If a person says they have a tendency to push people aside and leave them there but then later say if someone wants to stay in their lives that other person will put forth the effort to do so, is the original person contradicting themselves?

Nope.. it says they have very little interpersonal skills and are afraid of intimacy.. so that place's the ow-nus on the second party to drag them out and keep them close. it shows that they can not be a intimate. Now why they do that who can say...But if you want to stay close to them, then you will need to make sure you do not let them push you aside or away...

If you could do anything you wanted free of repercussion ... what would it be...

That's not really fair is it? Sounds like the second person will have to put forth more effort in the friendship/relationship if they are doing that.

If a friendship/relationship is important to you, is pride and/or being stubborn an issue?
Title: Re: If
Post by: Orik on Apr 22 10 06:55
no friendship has ever been that important to me.. so pride of self has never been a issue. each person is the way they are. take them or leave them for what its worth.. and sometimes it takes effort to get a person out of a shell and the masks they hide behind..

self defense of the ego and heart is hard to circumnavigate, particularly when you are dealing with those that have been hurt to many times before to allow anyone to get close to them ever again.. Sorry Natasha but I have seen many men and women like that and since I am not one to chase or deal with it I let them push me away.. maybe because I also push them away...

If you want them you have to be prepared to take on the barricades they are hiding behind as well. You need to decide if it is worth the fight to try and win them over, to free them of the shields they are hiding behind.

If you know a person is shy and afraid of intimacy would you go the extra mile to help them learn to love and come out of the cells they are hiding in, to help them learn to live unmasked ?

Depends on the person. A random person, no. A person I've come to know and care for, yes.

Orik, it's great when a person can reach out to someone. Help them become more open, etc. However, there's a difference between having someone reach out and making a person kiss your ass. No friendship/relationship should resort to ass kissing.

If someone told you they didn't like a certain person and some later that someone was talking to that person, would you think that someone was two faced or working on bettering themselves?[/DIV]

Can I Chose more than one person such as a group of police officers

"Jack the Ripper" is the popular name given to a serial killer who killed a number of prostitutes in the East End of London in 1888. The name originates from a letter written by someone who claimed to be the killer published at the time of the murders. The killings took place within a mile area and involved the districts of Whitechapel, Spitalfields, Aldgate, and the City of London proper. He was also called the Whitechapel Murderer and "Leather Apron."

The following were involved in trying to solve the Whitechapel / Jack The Ripper murders

Detective Chief Inspector John George Littlechild head of Scotlandyards special branch Chief Inspector Donald Swanson
Detective Inspector Edmund Reid,
Central Office at Scotland Yard,
Detective Inspectors, Frederick George Abberline, Henry Moore, and Walter Andrews,
Detective Inspector James McWilliam

I think there is more that were involved in trying to solve it... so any of them that I missed. 24 hours with Scotland yards crew...

Age as in neolithic or perhaps the bronze age, or of the industrial Revolution or perhaps the time frame 1875 to 1950.. or how about the birth of the of the Gold rush and the gunslinger. Sorry Gopher I can't choose the best time to be alive is now... and I choose this one..

you are men trapped in a enclosed space, rescues is certain, but it is 72 hours away, there is only enough oxygen for two people to survive for 48 hrs.

One will live & one will die,
three weapons

1 razor.
1 38 revolver and 1 bullet.
poison

three items in the room
cloth
straws
glass of water

How do you choose who will be the one to die, so the other might live. One of you will be the one that will sacrifice his life so that the other can live. How do you survive...

Hawaii thus there is no need to learn Italian and it is a bit closer to the Philippines.

If you had to learn a style of dance by rote, what dance would it be ?

Title: Re: If
Post by: DDD on May 06 10 08:41
What do dance and mathematics have in common? More than one might think. Unfortunately, both the discipline of mathematics and the art of dance are frequently taught through rote memorization. Dance is often taught by having students repeat the organizational structure (the steps) until they can perform the entire sequence without any thought. Similarly, mathematics is often taught by having students repeat formulas or calculations (e.g., multiplication tables) until they have memorized them--again, without any thought or analysis.

However, the problem with this type of learning is that it does not help students develop critical thinking and analysis skills, the ability to apply information in different situations, and the interest to continue learning the discipline.

Why am I writing this commentary? Because I love dance and I remember clearly how intimidating mathematics was to me many years ago--mainly because I was asked to memorize facts rather than understand them. Also, because there is an alternative method of teaching mathematics that makes the subject lovable or, at least, interesting to students. This alternative method has nothing to do with rote memorization. Instead, the mathematics class focuses on using dance as an object of mathematical analysis. The class is structured according to the following stages:

1. Warm-up activity designed to prepare students for thinking mathematically

2. Presentation of the class subject, purpose, and goals

3. Modeling of what is expected of students

4. Development of a dance--i.e., a kinesthetic representation, an oral explanation, and a written answer

5. Presentations of the students' work

6. Analysis and discussion

7. Summary and homework

While the first two and the last two stages are probably familiar to most teachers, the third, fourth, and fifth stages might not be as clear. Let us take a closer look at the purpose and implementation of these three stages in the classroom.

The Third Stage: What Is Expected of Students

In this stage, students are given examples of what is expected of them. The teacher models what students are expected to produce in the form of written work, verbal explanations, and kinesthetic presentations. Here is an example of ...

Knowing what we know, No ! I have to emphatically say never, the threat of a paradox or to relative time frame contamination, these risks are much to large to take, just imagine changing one thing in the past could lead to mass cataclysms in time, it could theoretically destroy all life, the risk far out weighs any potential good.

I would never risk the future of man kinds evolution, just to change one part of it's past, for all we know the Jewish Holocaust could have been caused by someone who tried to change a part of man kinds the past...... This is all theoretical after all....

Consider this you have just traveled back in time to change one thing that stops a mass epidemic across Europe one that kills 9 out of 10 human beings... But in so doing that minor change of the pass is what led to Hitlers rise in power....

What if some one had not messed with time to change something just as bad and that is what caused Hitler to rise to power... Or maybe something even worse. Maybe that Pandemic you went back in history to change turns in to A world wide pandemic, but this time it kills 99 out of every 100 and 9 out 10 survivors was left sterile...

You risk the entire existence of human kind just to change a minor part of our past, it is not worth the risk our species...

If you could travel back in time to watch history take place, with no fear of changing it, contaminating it, interacting with it or being hurt by it, where would you travel back in time to and what would you like to witness
