Thanks for the links, kingy. Am always on the hunt for bargains.
If you are really cheap with your money (like me), you can download movies off the internet, and if you choose the right file, the quality will be very close to what they would be on DVD. If you like it enough, you can even burn it to CD / DVD. Saves $15 or so.
True enough, Marik but that's not legal, is it? (http://discoverseattle.net/forums/richedit/smileys/Happy/3.gif) I don't wanna get caught....... so I'll pay The Man in the meantime.
Ah, that's right Lise. I was thinking of music downloads still being legal in Canada. So if you're going to buy a CD, and you don't really care about the cover or whatever other misc. stuff you might get inside, downloading + burning is the way to go!
I'm all for download and burning s'long as it's legit. I just don't wanna get into trouble. *chicken dance*
I highly doubt that anyone will be coming after you if you download a CD. Last time I checked it was legal to download music in Canada.
It is according to the supreme courts still, although the recording studios are trying to get it changed. Not as easy in a country thats not run by big business. Thats why limewire, kazaa and all the other big sites are based in Canada.
Alrighty, Boxing Day Week. Get your goodies.
Pirates of the Carribean 2 on sale for $9.99 at Best Buy. Lotsa goodies and you don't have to go through the store. Shop online and see for yourself.

Wow, that's a steal. The only place that I plan to visit is Walmart. I want to get those holiday packaed cranberry candles. LOVE their cranberry candles collection.
I refuse to go to a mall or department store until the crowds go away. The people are nuts out there.
I don't blame you kitten. People, in general, are more rude in times of stress.
I'm saving my money for the outlets in Seattle! YAHOO!
kitten wrote:

I agree kitten! <high five!> I dont care if I do save money on boxing day, I hate crowds.
I will probably miss most of boxing day tho due to the fact my gf works on the 27th so Ill be racing for the ferry attempting to get on, lol.
That being said, the Canadain tire and the Wallyworld here in Port Alberni are at least 10-15 MORE than in Vancouver on alot of items. I was flabbergasted.
The prices are probably inflated to cover the cost of shipping to the Island on our expensive ferries! lol
Hellow kiddies,
Another good deal here. From Shoppers Drugmart Photo Online. So works out to $9.00 (including taxes) for 50 photos. Limited time.

Ooh. That IS a good deal. How does one use an exercise ball?
it comes with an dvd with alot of exercises. it builds the 'core' of your body and gives you good balance. you can pretty much do anything on the ball as you would on a mat.
You can have sex on the exercise ball. Try it Lise. ;)
There are many great exercises on the ball including strengthening your pelvis by wombling on the ball and bouncing up and down. I like the ball to do my situps because it helps stabalize core muscles.
That IS a great deal......rats, and I was by there today. Not my most favourite place to shop but for 9 bucks, I can be flexible.
if you buy the ball, you'll be even more flexible!
ive never tried having sex on the ball. what position?
Oh wait......I'm having a vision.
Yes.........yes I believe that would work.

i think that is the first time a girl has ever said that to me!
Uhhmmm, it's not what you're thinking, kingy. I meant that she can lie on the ball on her back or on her tummy making sex from behind or the front. Now, this is the best exercise. Trust me. ;)

Can you place both your soles and palms flat on the ground in that position and hold for 30 seconds?
I'd like to be able to do it without the ball, but I'm not there yet...[/DIV]
I love that position as well. It is part of my stretching routine at the gym. I like doing that without the ball as well. Great exercise for the back! Oh, the flexibility and the feeling of blood rushing to the brain. Awesome! ;)

Werent you just talking about sex in that position? (Im looking into this)
Yes. And there's a position where she is on her front on the ball. Uhm, you can imagine the rest. Try it Russ. It definitely improves core stablelizers. ;)
Hmm, ok Im trying to picture this in my head. :LOL
purelife wrote:

You mean you stand up first, then start bending backwards until you get to that position...?
Otherwise anyone can lie on their back and tilt their hip.

I walked past Comor at the Alberni and Thurlow location. At this location ONLY, they have a 30-50% off of everything as they are closing down. They are leaving at the end of this month. I believe that all outerwear is 50% off and the rest, are 30%. The sale is only at that location.
I walked in there but everything is still so expensive for me with the discount.

The TrueBlue Blueberry and Pomegranate 1.89L are selling at London Drugs right now for $3.99. I think that they usually sell for like $4.50 or something. I think that it's a sale.

1.89L?
Thought Canada was metric?
Nope. Juices go by litres. Anything less will be in ml.
I see.
Metric system makes more sense then the stupid system here.
Sportsdude wrote:
1.89L?

1.89L is metric
Hmmm. That looks delicious, purelife!
It's very delicious and super healthy and high in antioxidants. I have a feeling that it's cheaper in Superstore for around 3 something for their noname brand. But I find that their no name brand is too strong for my liking. This one is just perfect.
Oops, I don't know my metric system. :P (How can you tell?) LOL
Canada is metric.
For example Its 32 degrees outside here when in Canada it would be 0.
You get in the car and the speed limt here is 60mph while it would be 100kph in Canada.
any units that are measured in multiples of 10 are metric
eg. 1000ml = 1 L 100cents = $1 1000metre = 1KM
the old english units
eg. pennies, shillings and pounds pints, quarts and gallons inches, feet, yards, miles
Don't they still use them in jolly old England?
Except for the US, I think everyone is using metric. Our currency is metric but everything else is the old English system.
The US and UK imperial systems have the same names, but are different values in terms of measurement like gallons.
So 1 UK Gallon is 4.54 litres and 1 US Gallon is 3.785 Litres.
The UK has metric SI units in terms of measurements and such.. except for Miles... Plus they drive on the wrong side of the road. Fallback from teh days of knights and the side they joust on.

If anyone of you shop at La Senza, there's a bra sale right now selling for $8.50. Great deal on really comfy bras. I've never shopped there but was amazed last night when I walked away with some. Pretty impressive.
ADD: The La Senza located on Robson (near Thurlow) is having a half off sale off the already-reduced merchandise (bras and lingerie). So, those bras starting at $8.50 at another location would cost $4.25 at this location only. They are renovating on Tuesday for a few weeks.

Canadian Tires will have a sale starting this Saturday on massaging chairs for 65% off. It sells for $19.99 or something like that. It's a pad that you hook onto your chair.
Meh. I paid so much for that pad as a Christmas gift for hubby.
can i just sit on your lap and you can massage me lise?
Of course, kingy. However I'm not responsible for any loss of member you might experience should you sit on my lap.
who would be responsible for that then?
I would say.......................... my pocketknife. (http://discoverseattle.net/forums/richedit/smileys/Happy/12.gif)
do you charge extra for that?
Uhm..... you want me to reply to that? I mean, we're talking about removing a piece of your general with my razor sharp pocketknife and you want me to charge you for that? LOL.
kingy, you're so cute that I would pay top dollar to see you run around and breed in any human zoo! (http://discoverseattle.net/forums/richedit/smileys/Love/1.gif)

At London Drugs, throughout this week, Dole 1L juices (pineapple 100%, pineapple/mango/orange, etc) are for .99cents with a 12 per customer limit. These normally cost $1.89.
Dang! That's a good deal. I might just go get one.
well if you girls are going to head over to London Drugs here's the flyer:

We have the flyer, SD. Thanks anyways. :)
I just thought to post that one about Dole juices because I drink them a lot and thought to share this great deal with everyone. They rarely go on sale for a buck.
Get the mixed ones, Lise. Like the pineapple/mango/orange blends. They are awesome. I LOVE PINEAPPLE!
I'm not too crazy about pineapple (once in a blue moon, ok) but I can handle it in a mixed cocktail.
Hey purelife, ever tried grilled pineapple? Wait till summer rolls over, then you buy a fresh pineapple, chop into pieces then tossed on the grill. Dip in melted chocolate. Heaven.
I've never tried grilled pineaple...and in chocolate! Oh, that sounds delicious. Thanks for the idea, Lise.
No probs. I got the idea from watching Nigella Bites. She's awesome. I tried her recipe and it was just wonderful.
Do you have to coat the pineapples first? Or just naked onto the grill?
usually I think people put the pineapples in tin foil over the grill
Naked on the grill so you get those grill marks. What she does is cut the pineapples into four strips, insert bamboo sticks then grilled them. I'll try and find the recipe. Hang on.
I use the good old george foreman grill. lifesaver that thing is.
Anyways, here's the recipe. It's not the same on the show but close enough.

Caramelized Pineapple with Hot Chocolate Sauce
Recipe By :Nigella Lawson
Serving Size : 6
Categories : Dessert-Misc. Fruit
Amount Measure Ingredient -- Preparation Method
-------- ------------ --------------------------------
1 ripe pineapple
1 cup plus 2 tablespoons brown sugar
14 bamboo skewers -- soaked in cold water
For the chocolate sauce:
1/2 cup Malibu or other rum
1/2 cup heavy cream
8 ounces bittersweet chocolate
Preheat the broiler or grill. Cut the top and bottom off of the pineapple and, working vertically, slice the skin off the fruit. Cut into quarters and then into three pieces again lengthwise so that you have wedges of pineapple. Cut out the woody core and thread the wedges onto the soaked bamboo skewers lengthwise and arrange these in a shallow dish.
Put the chocolate, broken into pieces, into a thick bottomed pan along with the Malibu and melt over low heat. Then stirring, pour in the cream plus any juices that have gathered from the fruit. When the sauce is thick, smooth and hot, pour into a bowl with a ladle, or enough little bowls to give one per person.
Lay the pineapple kebabs on a sheet of foil and either broil or grill the pineapple, thickly coating it with brown sugar first, until it caramelizes and scorches in the heat.
Take from the broiler or grill and lay them on a large plate and let everyone take them as they want, dipping the pineapple skewers into the hot chocolate sauce as they eat.
[A href="http://partytrayforyou.blogspot.com/2006_05_01_archive.html"]http://partytrayforyou.blogspot.com/2006_05_01_archive.html[/A]
Thanks Lise. That looks simple enough.
You kill the bromelain and all other useful, active enzymes in pineapple when you expose it to heat.
So it might be good to try out the grilled variety once in a while, but from a nutritional point of view I'd stick to eating/juicing them raw.
Lise, I gotta tell you........your posts are always entertaining. They always cover a broad range of subjects and are full of humour, information and entertainment. 450 g of peanut sesame crunch in clear vacuum packed boxes - originally selling for over $7.50 (forgot the exact original price, but it's close to $8) now on sale for $1.99 @ T&T. (I got mine from Chinatown location on Keefer, near Stadium Skytrain Stn.)
Melts in your mouth, not hard at all... and doesn't stick to your teeth like the sugar laden ones do.
Best investment of my toonie for this year.

They're by the front of the fish section, right at the corner.
Thanks Raging Poodle. I'll be hitting that store this week. What a deal! mmmm....can't wait. Black sesame is even better!
don't forget to pick the black sesame out from between your teeth after
I actually pass it on to someone else. Wanna get it from me, 49er? ;)
Black sesame is nice also
I can finish the (nearly) pound of peanut crunch in 2 sittings, but I don't think that'd be possible with the black sesame variety without risking major stomach upset.
If you don't live in the area, why not get a box of each?
And I'm betting you'll finish the peanut one sooner.
Oh, I will definitely get the two boxes after work this week. That is a definite excellent deal. I brought these black sesame candy from T&T and haven't finished this package yet. I've been looking around for sesame snaps too. I hope T&T sells a box of these. YUMMY treats![/DIV]

I like those seaweed snack thingees. You munch on these paper thin ones. Delicious! *crunch*
seaweed snacks?? arent those supposed to be used for sushi?
No, the snack seaweed is way tastier than regular nori. Fried in oil and covered with salt! So addictive.
where does one buy these seaweed snack things.
T&T
Hey Raging Poodle. I brought that sesame peanut crunch from T&T and they are delicious. I had a few and had to stop myself from finishing the whole tub right then and there. I should've brought more. My dad would love these. And, today was the last day for this sale. DARN! I would've picked up more. I went to the Metrotown T&T and looked up and down the side isles for a while (not knowing what brand to look for) and after a couple of minutes, found them! I was happy. So, thanks so much for posting this info. Bless.
Sport Chek (or Sport Mart?), the one located outside of Metrotown, in the parkade area where Future Shop is, is having an extra 20-70% off closing sale. I found out that they're closing for good and it'll be for this month only. I haven't checked out their selection yet.
They're closing down? Wow. Thanks for the tip. Will go see it this weekend.
Yup, I didn't think that they would last long because there is already a Sport Mart/Coast Moutain in the Mall. It doesn't make sense to have another one, 5 minutes of walking distance away. Oh well, we gain from the bargains of this one closing down. :)
there used to be a sports mart that closed down in the mall last year as well. i guess sportschek/coast mountain sports is taking over.
If you have VISA you might be able to get another 20% taken off your total at SportChek.
(I don't know if it applies to close out sales, but Sportchek shops are on VISA perks" list.)
Inquire, you might be surprised.

I keep getting deals at the little produce stores: Kins, Fruiticana, Al's Farm Market. Today I got 2 avocados for 0.99 and gala apples for 0.69/lb.
Fruitcana!!! I thought I was the only who shops there! I thought it's called FruitLand now. I go there to buy samosa. Really awesome, just re-heat in oven and your guests will be impressed.
I also buy my spices there, some that I can't get from Superstore or Save-On Foods.
There's also a little gem of a shop in the Old Orchard complex, between Pho Century and Rogers Video. This grocery store has some good deals on tomatoes, oranges, etc. etc. all for a mere buck.
Fruiticana is awesome. Really really cheap!
Maybe some of them changed names, but the one in my 'hood is still called Fruiticana. No samosas there, but there's an Indian take-out shop a few doors down.
Hey Lil Me. Did you say that you eat at Hon's in Coquitlam? If so, there's a coupon in the WE free magazine with a 10% off Dine In only.
Thanks!
where is fruitland? i love somosa. there just arent enough places that sell good ones.
the veggie samosas I get are 2 for $1.00. They're really good.
lol was looking at dierbergs 10 yogurts for 5 bucks.

I'm not sure exactly where. I forget the name of the street but it's quite close to Burnaby Hospital. There's this one street that has shops on either side. I think the street is called Sunset but am not sure. Possibly Sunset and Smithe Street, Burnaby. Sorry. I'm quite bad with directions.
For sure get those samosas. Well worth the price because for $10.00, you get quite a fair bit and you can always freeze the ones you don't need till next time.
If you enjoy good fresh samosas, you can also get them from Safari Snackhouse (5121 Canada Way). Lovely, smooth sauces to go with your samosas. Yummy.
Some of the best Samosa's Ive had are here in the general area where I live in.. we call it little india. lots of East Indian shops around, the 49th and main and 49th and fraser areas. You can get veggie, beef, etc samosa's for 4 or 3 for a buck. Just wander around. The restuarant at 49th and Main is all you can eat veggie cuisine for 6 bucks a person. I usually get that then order a dish or two of a lamb masala or a chicken curry.. but you need two people as those are 10 bucks a piece.
I know the ones you're talking about, Russ. Delicious!! Yum. Now I want samosas. They're different though... those are Sikh samosas. The ones I'm used to are 'East Indians'. Kinda more triangular.
Anyways. Here's the latest promo offering from Little Caesars on 6681 MacPherson Avenue. From Feb 12 to Feb 18, they're having a customer appreciationg week so ANY SIZE UNLIMITED PIZZA TOPPINGS for $9.99
I'm going to order some take-out Indian for dinner tonight! Aloo gobi and butter chicken. I'll ask for it mild, because the restaurant is Punjabi, and they're heavy on the red chiles. I LOVE spicy food but their "medium" is scorching.
Aloo gobi and butter chicken.
Mmmmm....I love those aloo gobi stuff... I wish that I could make it. mmm...butter chicken.
Butter chicken is soooo yummy. I have to tackle that one day. It's not easy......
I don't know butter chicken. What is this..... (if it's spicy, don't tell me)....you're making it sound awfully yummy.
Oooooo, looks good. Just looked up a few recipes.
I've made ok butter chicken using sauce from a jar.
butter chicken is the best! there is this place on broadway near cambie called curry point that makes great dishes. the food fair at metrotown has a curry express that makes pretty good butter chicken as well.
Butter chicken is my favorite. Love that stuff. Samosa Garden on Kingsway has the best!!
OK....I don't know if this belongs in this topic or not.....but here goes.
I have spent the last week chipping off three layers of flooring in my kitchen. A layer of linoleum, a layer of lino tile and a layer of gunk. I bought slate tile to replace the floor, (which does NOT belong in the best deals thread).
SO......now that I'm down to the concrete slab.......I thought that the raw concrete floor looked identical to the slate look tiles I just spent a fortune on. Complete with 'grid' markings from where moisture or spills have leached into the seams. It has taken on a really nice mottled look that 25 year old concrete does. I've decided to paint on more defined grout lines, lay a couple coats of commercial grade varathane......and voila.......a 'slate' tile floor for the cost of a can of varathane.
It looks very much like the tile in the lower left. (except square and not pinkish)
[SPAN class=aicontent][/SPAN]
PC! Looks fantastic!! You're such a handyperson. I love it. I think it looks great on your kitchen floor. Hmmm...... wonder if I'll be able to do something like that in the future?
wow PC. awesome!
Awww shucks. It's not so much 'handy' as it is that I get a kick out of doing stuff that looks rich, without a rich budget. I have this blasted knack of selecting things, without knowing their price, that turn out to be the most expensive thing in the store. But I'm fairly frugal, so I start trying to figure out ways that I can get 'the look' I want, in a different way. Sometimes it works......sometimes it doesn't.
I'll find out soon enough with this one. No biggy, if it doesn't work, not much lost and I can continue and just tile over it.
those tiles look like the ones ive been looking at to use in the bathroom and kitchen
Well you have impeccable taste Mr Russ.
TrueBlue Beverages. There's a $1 off coupon printable directly from their homesite.

On the left hand side, it says "Print A Coupon"
EDIT: The coupon works. Brought the drink from Superstore at 3 bucks. CHEAP!
These are on sale over at London Drugs till end of this month (ish) for $2.99. I brought the almond one and it's absolutely delicious. Organic chocolate...mmmmm...

There's oragnic chocolate??? Does it taste any different from the normal ones?
Yup, organic ones taste really really good. Less sugar.
This is the list of ingredients:
Organic Raw Cane Sugar, Organic Almonds (25%), Organic Whole Milk Power (20%), Organic Coca Liquor, Organic Cocoa Butter, Emulsifier: Soya Lecithin, Organic Vanilla.
PURE YUMMY!
Personally I don't find organic chocolates any better or different than the "regular" high(er) quality (ie. 70%) chocolates. Only, they're more expensive.
They are a bit, but I only get them when they're on sale. I like the fair trade cocoa. Those are yummy but so darn expensive.
I do the same also. I never buy them at their outrageous regular prices.
Once in a while Shopper's puts Cote D'ors on sale for 2 for $5.00. That's when I usually grab a couple.
One word on Cote D'ors: Don't go for the variety that only says "Dark chocolate" on it. It's crap. (I'm suspecting the one that says "Milk chocolate" will also be similar.) It is so sweet that the ony way I could finish one was by melting it in milk and making hot chocolate with it.
70% is where it's at. (http://discoverseattle.net/forums/richedit/smileys/Happy/21.gif)
Let me know when you see it on sale at Shopper's, Mool! I don't often head over to Shoppers. I don't think that I've tried that brand before.
I saw this recipe for hot chocolate on tv. I think she had full fat milk, with honey, with 2 cinnamon sticks and brown sugar. Then, she put a chunk of pure chocolate in it and then took out the cinnamon sticks. I've got to try this recipe if my memory serves me well.
There're various ways of making hot chocolate. I remember coming across with a Castillian variety which had a bit of corn starch in it for thickness.
Yours would be fairly high in calories and fat. Even if one is not on a diet, I believe in reducing simple sugars and fat as reasonably as possible. So for example in your recipe I'd reduce or completely eliminate the honey (chocolate will already have enough sugar in it) and switch to at least 2% milk.
However I also realize personal tastes vary.
Women's Avia running shoes (trainers) are on sale at Costco. $30.
Oh for sure, Mool. I'll cut back on honey and brown sugar and the milk. Chocolate is already sweet.
My co-worker brought that brand of shoes, Lil Me. She liked them.
Darn, I missed the closing-out sale at Sport Chek, but I went to the other Metrotown Sport Chek yesterday and scored some kids' skis for $159 incl. bindings and installation. Just found out that Spork Chek will buy back used kids' skis for 1/2 the price you paid for them! Keep the receipt.
All the CNY food is on sale at T&T today. Those big bowls (10,000lbs each) of sweet sticky pudding (the kind you slice and fry) are something like 2 for $6. Not my cup of tea.
I thought that the Sport Chek sale ends this month? I'm going to wait to see if the 10% further reduction increases because I have a pair of running shoes that I've been eyeing. :)
Sorry, yes- the Station Square store is still open, but I missed getting the kids' equipment on sale there.
Haven't checked out Sports Mart. Hmm. No time. Will have to do it before it closes for good.
Royale Tissue boxes (96 tissues) are on sale at Shoppers for 77 cents.
Speaking of T&T, they had this for the past few days now. I don't know how long more it'll last:
3 lb. bag of apples: 0.99c.
I juice a lot of apples. They're a mainstay in my cocktails so I can go through one of these bags in less than 3-4 days.
If you're eating, you can probably finish the whole bag within 2,5 weeks.
3lb bag apples for a buck!?!?! That's cheap. I'll check it out tonight since it's grocery night. :)
Lemme know if you see those sesame crunch for 2 bucks again. I'll be sure to grab more than one next time. I learned my lesson. (http://discoverseattle.net/forums/richedit/smileys/Teasing/12.gif)
4L ice cream is $3.99 at Safeway.
The Source (aka Radio Shack) across from HMV on Robson Street, downtown is having an extra 70% off EVERYTHING in store. I don't know how long they are going to be open because that location is closing down.

Not the same peanut crunches but currently they're liquidating their Chinese new year foods. So you have some interesting deals going.

One of them is a "peanut candy" - similar to the crunch, but it's made with ground peanuts and contains more sugar. Price is much cheaper: 2 packages for $1.

You can also get dried persimmons: 0.89c for a bag of 4,

Agreed. I just bought a packet of those peanut crunch. Very interesting although a tad too sweet for my taste bud.
Special deals at T&T usually on the weekends. I just bought a huge bottle of Ribena juice for under $2.00.
KFC is on sale just before closing time at the mall. 7 pieces for $5! I got 10 pieces. Too much chicken, but we'll continue to eat it during the week.

I took advantage of those two coupons as well, yesterday. :) I have to pick up more cheesecake soon. An excellent deal. :)
You did? Excellent. Those are some of the best deals I've seen from Superstore in a long time. We bought the plain cheesecake and I"m going to serve them tonight with mango sauce and pistachio nuts on top.
Catelli Bistro (whole wheat, omega, spinach, etc.) pasta is 0.99 at the StupidStore. Limit 2 :(

The Joe brand clothing at the StupidStore looks good. Lots of bright colours. $6 tanks and $3 flip flops.
Any Nabob ?
Sorry- I forgot to check. Distracted by the cheap fancy pasta.
Superstore did have an Extra Fine Grind coffee but the brand wasn't Nabob. It was its own no-name label. I still have to check Save On Foods, IGA and Safeway for you. I haven't been shopping there lately and keep forgetting. :( Sorry. Lemme picture a big tin of coffee beans in front of these locations so that I'll remember. ;)
nothing at london drugs or walmart in lougheed mall.

Just thought I'd put this one out here. There is a website, save.ca, that has some great coupons. They are not printable. You have to check off which ones you would like, and they will mail them to you. I did it a couple weeks ago, and meant to mention, that I received them in the mail within a few days. Hey guys,
Just got this in the email this morning. Killarney Community Centre is going to give a FREE movie screening of Night at the Museum on July 21, 2007. Movie is going to be at Killarney North View and will start at 8.30pm.
Great outing for the kids. Bring blankets. Small concession will be available.
Uh.. I hate to break this to you Lise.. but 'night at the museum' is out on video now.
Why go out to watch it at a crowded community centre when you can have them watch it at home?
Or am I missing the whole point of this exercise completely?
8pm - 10pm is going to be pretty late for kids to be up, imo. But, it's a kid's event where other kids are going to be there... just be careful of the cranky kids because it's probably way past their bedtime.
EDIT: Let me rephrase. In the summer, I agree... kid's can stay up til like 9 or so. But on a school night, it's 7.
Wouldn't it be nice to lie on a blanket and watch a movie outdoors? (it is outdoors, right? I drove past the sign the other day and assumed it was an outdoor thing) Sure, it's a bit late for the kids BUT IT'S SUMMER!
yikes you guys are strict parents. lol
Summer for me bedtime was 10-10:30. And I spent the rest listening to the radio until about midnight trying to fall asleep.
I think it depends on what the plans are for the next day. For instance, Heckyl and Jeckyl are staying up late this week because we don't have too much going on. Next week, they're in day camps at SFU so we have that early start :)
Yeah, yeah, I know Russ my boy but it's all for the community. Not everyone can afford to rent videos. Besides, it's a family event thingee. Not many kids get to experience watching a big screen out in the open.
Ikea has a salmon dinner combo for $8.49. The picture on the flyer that arrived in my mailbox looks lovely...Herbed salmon with dill sauce, potatoes, vegetables, soup or salad and a soft drink.
Do they still have that $1.00 deal on breakfast? That's a good deal. Hmmm. I remember actually craving for their breakfast when I was first pregnant. Drove my hubby crazy with my constant nagging about going there.
I've tried the Ikea salmon dinner the other dinner. It's "okay." I found it too overcooked for my liking. But, it was cheap for what you get.
The best is their dessert. They have this almond daim slice of cake and OMG, yummy! It's not too sweet. You can buy it for 7 bucks down at their market store.
Right now, Superstore is offering FREE cranberry juice for grocery over $25.00

I was checking at the wrong site.
No problems. Glad to be of help. I tried to get my free cookies last week (they had free chocolate chip cookies) but didn't realized my coupon expired. Damn. Stupid offers only last for a week.
Yea, it sucks when it expires in a week.

One of the Dollar Daze(???) store is closing in Metrotown according to my mother-in-law. I think it's the one by Ricky's, same floor as the Bay opposite Langley Fruit and Vegetable Market. (???) Everything there is on 1/2 price, so you're paying something like 50 cents for cards and whatever.
Hey speaking of these guys, Langley Fruit and Vegetable Market, they are the greatest. So much better to be able to go there: good product, pricing, and you don't have to crawl thru StuporStore no more.
Yes, Weird Al. I agree. They are the best, good service. If you go during a certain time there's virtually no line-ups.
Come to think of it, apart from the price, Superstore sucks at everything else.
Ive never heard of the place? Where is it? I assume its in langley with teh name?
We're counting on your tip for the hot pot at Crystal Mall, Russ. We're going there on Saturday to get one. (is that where you can also get all those wonderful little rolls of meat?)
Yes just wander around teh outside and theres one stall overflowing with some pots/pans n stuff into the walkway that has a handwritten sign.. stove and hotpot for 27.99. In the food market section of the crystal mall theres places to buy the sliced meats..
I cant take credit for this stuff.. it was Lise who put me onto Crystal Mall over TnT.
Thanks Russ and Lise.....I am sprinkling you both with appreciation dust.
Any tips on different types of dipping sauces ?
It's weird but yes, there's a fruit store with Langley written on it. I'm not sure why. I assumed it's a branch because I've seen the store in Richmond.
Dipping sauce? I usually recommend the Japanese soy sauce. I'm not sure why but it's the nicest and taste far less saltier. My favorite dipping sauce for the moment is the Thai Sweet Chilli Sauce. It's nice and sweet, you can buy it from Save-On Foods or Superstore.
You're coming down to the Crystal Mall? Nice! If you are, we can meet for bubble tea? Just lemme know, if you're interest, Ms. PC. I can take you around and show you what you can get.
There's a fish shop there that sells little fish balls. It's the one between the bakery and veggie store. The fish balls there are just perfect for hotpot. I find the texture nice and quite crunchy. Grab a couple of those if you pass by. I also recommend the silky tofu! Good stuff.

Ok, if PC is interested in meeting at Crystal Mall, then I would like to come too, if it's okay with you gals. :))) I'd love to meet you Ms PC.
Sure thing, purelife but it'll be up to PC. With two of us there.... hey, we might scare her away. Ssshhhh. You'll promise to be nice, right, purelife?
True.... two of us and possibly my fiance. ;) My fiance is pretty scary though, but you'll get to meet him, Lise and be the judge for yourself. ;)
We promise to be nice and sweet and be on our bestest behavoir if you want to meet us briefly, Ms PC. For real, I'm sweet on the inside. HONEST! ;)
I'm so excited to finally get to see your other half, purelife! I've been hearing so much about him so it's great to see him in person.
We can always meet for bubble tea together. Anytime, just give me a holler.
Awwww....thanks ladies.....but this is going to be the quickest in / out shopping ever.
We have obligations and will be running a tight schedule. I will absolutely get over there to meet you the next visit for sure.
Not a problem, PC. Next time you're in town, you gotta allow for more time for us to meet! (http://discoverseattle.net/forums/richedit/smileys/2.gif)
The movie 300 will be out in Zellers today. Will sell for $20 or so, Tuesday July 31st. One day only.

Thanks Lise. I better tell my guy about that deal cuz he was going to buy that movie. *snicker*

In / out "shopping" turns me on. I'll be lurking at the Crystal Mall, watching for 3 hot women.

lol, my guy ended up buying 300 DVD from Bestbuy today for a one day sale of $20!
Hey purelife, I went out and bought the movie too. Can't wait to watch it.
Here's my Best Deal tip for the week. Found at Save-On Foods, Metrotown are two bottles of Thai and Plum Sauce by VH. 455ml (big bottle) for 79 cents. Usual price is around $3.00
I went to Dollarama last Sunday. Very disappointing. About 1/3 the size of the Winnipeg store plus many of the shelves were empty.
Cans of sockeye salmon are $1.59 at Zellers (limit of 6).

wow, i would enjoy being in winterpeg then! 1/3 the size! the one there must be the gigantic! is it kinda like daiso out in richmond?

The graphics and the whole "comicy" look was awesome. I enjoyed the slo-mo action and you've got to look at the ABS of the Spartans!!!!!!!! Supposedly, they trained everyday for several hours to maintain that 6pack.
Thx for the plum sauce deal at SOF. I'll pick some up for sure.
That's the thing with this Dollarama, I'm not sure why the shelves are always nearly empty. They must move through a lot of stock or something. But it's still impressive. Far bigger than most dollar stores I've been in. Great stuff if you have kids and need party items though.
I love 300, purelife. It's the type of comic/graphic art movie that attracts me. Frank Miller's work is dark and gory - just my type! (http://discoverseattle.net/forums/richedit/smileys/Happy/12.gif)
I got the plum sauce by VH but I'm not sure what I'm going to use it for. Maybe fried chicken pieces dipped into the sauce or something like that. Still at 79 cents, it's so cheap! BTW, it's not advertise outside so you can be sure this is a good deal.
Located at the Asian aisle.
I also like plum sauce for pork. :)
So, you've watched 300 already?
We'll be watching Bourne this Friday. I hope that it's not packed like Transformers and Spidey 3.
That is a good deal on the VH Lise. I like the plum sauce on spring rolls. Mmm...now I have a hankering for spring rolls.
Customer Appreciation Days
Safeway - 10% off your grocery bill on the first Tuesday of every month
Alive (Health Food Store) - 15% off regular priced items on the first Tuesday of every month
I had no idea these two places offered that deal until I shopped there today. I was HAPPY to have saved some $$! I'm going to take advantage of this from now on, now that I know about these deals. I thought that I'd share. :)))
Good deal !
You also get 3.5 cents a litre off gas at Safeway if you spend $35 too. (I don't know if this is everywhere though) So on top of the 3.5 cents you get for having a Safeway card, you're saving 7 cents a litre. Bonus!
bummer safeway is kinda far away.

It's on everywhere. Even at Save-On Foods and IGA. I bought 6 each from the two stores. Save-On Foods was much better. Don't get the IGA ones - not sweet at all! Yuck!
Blueberries are also on specials at Save-On Foods.
yeah can't go wrong with corn on the cobb.
I get some from the farm, they grew a lot of sweet corn this year.

I agree with ya Lise. Superstore corn sucks. Kins Market isn't too bad for corn.

I'm just loving the $2.99 Subway daily sandwich.
Depends how hungry you are.
It's not the SIZE of the sandwich, it's the quality of the sandwich experience. If it's a good sandwich, six inches is just fine. My opinion.
We ARE talking sandwiches....right ?
Not only are those 6" made of quality ingredients, it also comes cheap with a different variety everyday. So, for the money, you get something different....daily.
I fear that if Lil Me ate too many Subway sandwiches, she might disappear.
I'm confused.
Well look what happened to Jared !!!! .....and you're already lil.

38 cents for a corn at Save-On Foods Metrotown. $2.99 for a box of blueberry.
$1.50 per slice at the Cheesecake Factory, but I'm thinking this is only a one day St. Louis thang.
Hey Michel, I was at Zellers today, their stuff is 40% off.
The $7.99 Ribs and Fries at the Costco snack bar looks and smells really good.
It's a portion that could feed a family of 4.
Anyone tried it? (not me. I was still full from breakfast at 10am)
There's ribs at Costco food court? I don't think I've seen it at the one I go to....
Saw and smelled them at the PoCo Costco the other day.
WOW! I can't wait until it reaches Bby Costco. Lemme know if it tastes good if you try it before we do. I love their fries.

49 bucks is a good deal. The one they had at London Drugs was $20 more....but the step on things were colours. I didn't like them. This is the one at Costco.

LOL !
We have a little one too, but all we use it for is the window sill to catch a snap of the birdies.
I use exfoliating gloves. Not every day, but I scrub myself silly a few times a week.
I've always used the 'Buff Puff'....but the glove is nicer, I think. *wished I bought a gross*
Have you guys ever seen this camera that wraps around the tree and takes a photo every minute it senses movement? It looks like a thin box, but MrPL's parents have one and they use it for bird photos and our camping trip when we sat around campfire. I don't know what it's called but photos are stored on memory card. It's really cool!
I use the exfoliating gloves too PC...for my feet mainly cuz they get so dry at times
Tell me more please.
I should find out where they brought this because I'd love to get my hands on one. When I first saw it, I thought it was some sort of bird feeder and it didn't look like a camera. I wish I knew the name or can google a pic for you. All I know is that it picks up on movement and there's this red light that blinks letting you know that a pic has been captured and all are stored on a memory card. And it takes 1000's of photos all day long...
Sounds cool. If you find out more, let me know. I'll give it a google too.

The largest size popcorn at the movies includes free refills.
I have a friend who finds a used bucket, dumps out the remaining popcorn, and then takes it to the snack bar for a free refill.
I thought about doing that but haven't done it yet... their popcorn is so yummy...
If you're feeling really brave, the largest pop containers are also refillable.
Whenever i go to the movies with starfishie, my brother and whoever is this weeks latest, we always get one large drink and the largest popcorn.. and do at least one refill, sometimes two.

What I like to do for Christmas as a little joke is to put their gift inside some box / wrapping that makes the person getting your gift go "WHAT?!?!"

Everyone hurry up and go buy discounted halloween candy before they run out! I was at Zellers today and they were starting to run out.

There was free gas this morning at the Chevron at Willingdon/Canada Way, right by BCIT.
Couldn't stop, unfortunately. There was a really long line-up, and I was on the verge of running late for an appointment.
The new casino was sponsoring the free gas.
There's another new casino?
The one right at Willingdon and Highway 1, was closed for renos...used to be the old Sheraton hotel.
Maybe they'll bring in a helicopter to shuttle the larger clientels.

Got a nice gift flashlight and tire pressure gauge from Mr Lube. Apparently we're on the Preferred Customer list.
Russ: pssst! How important is it to change flush the differential fluid? I didn't do it today. Never have, why start now?!

Russ: pssst! How important is it to change flush the differential fluid? I didn't do it today. Never have, why start now?!
Its not really important. Some different types of synthetic oils break down after... ten years. Most oils last a long time, especially mineral oils. Manufacturers like to try to make money. Dont do it.
I never change oil in my diffs.. only check the levels. I DO at times drain a bit out of the bottom drain plug and look for oil separation or shavings. Never seen it.
Dont worry about it. Unless your axle differentials are leaking, then add to it. I think the last time I went to a Lubester, I had them check my diff levels.
On my Blue GMC pickup, I have once checked the diff levels, never changed the oil. Its a 1990.
what type of oil does your vehicle have? 75W-90 I assume but synthetic or mineral?
Same thing with transmission fluid and filter. Maybe change it after like 5 years, if you been driving it hard or towing something once in a while. Take a look at your fluid once in a while, if it looks blackish or dark with particles in it (looks like dirt when you take some in your fingers and rub it together) change the oil and filter. If it smells burnt, change it. It should look like a watered down red and smell like.. uh, ATF. The biggest enemy to an auto is HEAT, as in overheating the oil. If you load up your vehicle or tow something with it on highway steep grades etc.. install an auxilliary transmission cooler. They are about 100 bucks and takes two hours to install. Anyone can do it.
I have seen two auto transmissions go on vehicles I have been around.. and it was to do with overworking it.. in essence overheating it.

Yes. Good point Michel, sorry I assumed your vehicle wasnt still under warranty.
If your warranty requires it you have to do it to keep your warranty. Then you get a record of the maintenance being done for warranty purposes.
If its out of warranty I wouldnt worry about it then. I trust manufacturer's recommendations only so much..
Good answers Russ and Michel. Thanks.
No, car is not under warranty.

That was really nice of her.
I think they are around 7 or 8 bucks in other craft stores. Michaels prices are severely wonky.
I quite enjoy free coffee at the bank. They don't serve it at every location, and not every day. It just makes me happy that they are finally GIVING me something after charging me for everything.
There used to be free popcorn somewhere. Was it Revy or Irly Bird? Some defunct hardware store.
Yea....Revy has popcorn. After the test drives at GM, we went back to the salespersons office. She asked if we would like something to drink.....and I said yes please....I'll have a rum and coke. She just laughed at me, so I got nothing.
Honda, Acura, Toyota and Lexus dealers here have free coffee and juices in their waiting areas; donuts, muffins and bagels in the morning and fresh fruits rest of the day
Most of the dealerships here have a customer 'loungey' area....with TV, often an aquarium.....lol.......coffee bar....with the same type of fare. The newer dealerships are paying particular attention to this area.
I think the japanese dealerships have a minimum standard they have to maintain.....the older smaller ones are closed or moved to newer, modern bigger showrooms with service facilities. Some have computers available to surf while you wait, and play areas for kids
Subaru has nothing. :(
I think they assume we all arrive with our own water and protein ration bars.
Apparently the lunch counter in back of Save on Meats in W Hastings has giant, cheap burgers.
And you can buy any steak or chop in the store- they will cook it and serve with 2 side dishes for an extra $5...so you're looking at a great steak dinner for under $11.
Lil Me - I'm not sure if it was you who posted that by Clark/Venables area, there's a place that sells cheap meat, sausages, etc. Do you remember the name of that place? I was driving around that area the other day, looking for it, but couldn't remember where.
I dunno if I posted it, but are you thinking about the Freybe Factory Outlet? E Hastings nearVictoria Drive. I don't have the address, but it's on the north side of Hastings.

All you have to do, is print out the coupon and it gives you free admission to the bridge. So, who is gonna go?!!

Not me. But I am going to try to make the Ladysmith Light-up this year.
hope someone has inspected the bridge for structural fatique from age.....thats a lot of weight when everyone on the same time.
A few years back, for some aniversary, when they closed the Golden Gate Bridge to traffic and allowed it to be filled with people for the celebration, the bridge deflected and lost its camber.........lots of people were scared

There ya go !
Anything else you need to save money on ?
Hey, that's a great idea, purelife. Definitely on our list to see the lights this year.
However, we have a one year membership. What we did was use the Entertainment Coupon to get us into the place then if you are a BC resident, you can actually ask about the free one year membership. It's awesome.
I've never been to the Bridge and it would be a perfect evening out. :) Lemme know if you're going that night, Lise.
With my earlier comment, it wasn't my intention to sound like I have low self esteem or nobody else would think my value is worth more.
I'd love to go to the bridge that night. Need to see what time I'm going to YVR- I think Mr LM is flying in that day.
If you go, Lil Me, let me know. :) I think we're going to go.
Is MrLM flying in because your birthday is on that week? (http://discoverseattle.net/forums/richedit/smileys/Happy/3.gif) (http://discoverseattle.net/forums/richedit/smileys/Happy/15.gif)
partially, but his project is finishing then anyways.
Ooh! Birthdays!
Awesome.. so you celebrating your 25th birthday how?
lol. I guess I can be 25 again.
No big plans. Heckyl and I have a bday on the same day, so we usually do whatever he wants to do. This year he wants to go for All You Can Eat Meat at Samba on Alberni.

I just read 38 pages of this thread looking for a post made by Lil Me (I think)....about a shop over there that has good prices on silk. I never found it. (http://discoverseattle.net/forums/richedit/smileys/Sad/11.gif)
But....I'm curious about a few things.
Did everyone who ordered, ever get their free undies and cammies ? And what about the 6 month free subscription for the Photographer magazine. Also, there were a few takers on the free jelly beans. Did anyone actually ever GET this stuff ???
I didn't get any of those things.
But I got my coupon for free kashi cereal a few weeks back.
Did you order them and not get them ? or just didn't go for them.
I didn't order everything, but I did ask for the free underwear, which never arrived.
3:46 a.m. ???? My time stamp is screwed up. Is yours ?
Yes. I wonder what happened. Did the earth tip sideways into a different time zone? Did someone drive a DeLorean through a lightning storm?
Well, whatever happened, JUST happened....because it wasn't like that earlier. (http://discoverseattle.net/forums/richedit/smileys/10.gif) I don't think.
No I didn't get the undies either, but I did use the coupon for the free Silhouette Yogurt..
I don't recall any reports in The Lunch Thread about jelly beans...or did you eat them for dinner ?
Remember the "Scanning code of practice" in the grocery store. If the cash register price comes up higher than the actual price, the item is free (up to $10 usually). My neighbour got free cat food at WalMart, then went back the next day to see if the bar code price had been changed (nope), and then back two more times for more free cat food.
I think it's all across Canada.
You were soliciting at the hotel ?
Yeah, and he says he got screwed!
That must be why he keeps going to Ottawa "for work".

You know.. this is a good point. I normally just throw away money off coupons unless its something I would buy all the time.. This is a good reminder to keep an eye on stuff like this.
Regarding what Lil Me was talking about the other day.....Scanning code of practise....Here is a list of participating stores. I happened to check it out, because the items I bought at Home Depot yesterday were priced incorrectly. When I mentioned 'the code'....she just laughed and carried on.

If Superstore ever get on that list, they'll become bankrupt...
Part of the reason I won't shop a superstore is they took a 20 minutes to correct a price I paid for light bulbs. They kept telling me I was wrong not the computer.
If people spent the time they do looking for coupons, on working on their business, they'd probably make/save much more! This doesn't apply to the slave labour force, however, for whom coupons exist.
I went to Sears Day a couple weeks ago- almost everything in the store was at least 25% off, some things marked down 2 or 3 times. All the wrong prices came up in the cash register.
Even after I had paid, I noticed some mistakes on the bill..so I lined up again to have them corrected. It's the principle of the thing, not the $2 that I got back...
That principle would be... that you are cheap?
No, it's contract law.
I enter into a sales agreement at a stated price, and the other party has a duty to perform its obligation at that price.
Marks Work Wearhouse- buy 2 pr Men's dress pants or khakis and they give you $25 gift card. Until Dec 7 (plus there's a new $10 off card attached to the flyer)
Ikea- Buy an Xmas tree for $20 and they give you a $20 off coupon to use in Jan.
I never check my bills.. but now I have started to after this one time SS checked a bill as we were leaving costco and saw that I had been overcharged almost 200 dollars for double charged items, I would have just crumpled it into a ball like all the others, left it in my pocket, washed my pants and finish. Im observant like that.
It IS the principal of the thing.
Marks work special sounds good LM!
EDIT: BUY an xmas tree? Go online, download the free permit, encourage (force) a family tradition trip up to around squampton, hack down a tree, come home, make sure no birds/ squirrels inside damn thing, stick in living room.
EDIT EDIT: 20 bucks off 20 buck tree at Ikea is cheating.

Ooooh. I'd love to. But fire regs don't permit cut trees in my abode. I think it will be a Charlie Brown tree in a pot this year. Next to a festivus pole.
I couldn't cut down a living tree for the sake of decorating my place for a few weeks. Seems like a waste of a good tree. I like my tree fake and re-usable year after year after year.
For those of you interested in make-up, Sears have this awesome deal where you spend like $33 on any Lancome product and get a gift bag with all the goodies for free. It's valued at $110 plus. I don't think expecting to be charged the correct price for an item is cheap at all. Of course for people like stretch who apparently has more money than god.....it's not a problem. But for most of us, it's a reasonable expectation....and yes....there is principle involved as well.
As for coupons ? They're for anyone who wants to ensure that as much of their hard earned money stays in their own pockets....not lining somebody elses. Especially in times, where everything costs 3 times more than its worth. Rich people don't get rich by throwing their money around.

me i expect to be charged the correct amount for a item and will request a refund of said item when or if i catch said retailer making a ereror and now that i know of the voluntary law i will be invoking that law and testing its worth in certain places like Safeway... where i have more than once caught them making mistakes at the check out ...

Congrats on the great karma...
acetaminophen is no longer a drug i can use now or possibly ever again.. I need to find something new to use for my chronic back problems that does not consist of a drug that can cause further liver damage
I was able to catch karma pigs last week, but this week they fly too fast. If they deducted for each miss I'd be in the negative. (http://discoverseattle.net/forums/richedit/smileys/Happy/12.gif)
You're correct tylenol isn't a good thing people with liver problems, I just wanted to point out that there were other deals on the site you found.
id be in the negative karma if they deducted for each miss and ur right i find they fly much faster this new year or maybe im just slower in the new year hehehe after all i am a year older almost...
ur right jj smartcanucks forum has some amazing sweet deals including some tips on wrongly scanned priced items thus allowing u to scoop up said item free... sometimes the deals sound a bit unscrupulous but i need to save every buck i can :D

These are AMAZING. I remember purelife had mentioned using them, but I finally got some, and I am totally impressed. I can't believe how fresh the produce remains when kept in these bags. They're not terribly cheap, but I know for sure, I won't be throwing out slimy produce any more. That in itself has got to be a major savings. (plus I HATE throwing out food !!!) ( also they are reusable)

Good tip, P.C. Thanks. Did you need to order them from tv?
I have some Tupperware brand containers that do the same thing.
But most of the time we manage to use our veggies before they turn (damn preservatives, I guess...).
Sawdust got them at that place called ShowTime. It carries all the 'as seen on TV' crap. I was skeptical, but was convinced of their effectiveness within the week.
I find that with just the two of us, we don't often go through everything before it's past its best. I'm constantly throwing out green onions. They don't seem to last more than a couple days. The ones in the bag now, are squeaky fresh.
Oh yeah, I love those stores. Chia pets, salad shooters, massage chairs.
Mind you, I've never bought anything there.
Actually, I've never ordered anything from tv either.
Couple years ago, my dad wanted the tv tray that folds in 18 different directions. I ordered it off the internet.
I never have either. But I'm sure glad we tried these.

When i clicked on this post i thought I had clicked on the joke thread - there is certainly some potential for joke fodder here "green bags" but alas it is a good deal not a joke.

Does anyone know of a deal on watch batteries?
I usually pay $15 at The Bay (about once a year), but that seems a bit excessive because I've been doing this for going on 10 years....for a $40 Timex watch!
Maybe I should just buy a $10 watch off the cart in the mall once a year?
Go to the dollars store, my daughter told me to go there the other day.
Thanks JJ. I will do that.
I purchased mine either from Save On Foods or Stupidstore and did it myself. I went to my parent's and inserted the watch into the vice to tighten it up and secure the backing. I figured that I couldn't push it in with my bare hands.

I asked for a discount at Toys R Us today, and actually got one!
Jeckyl needed a basketball. There was one size 5 (little size) composite bball left in stock. It was marked full price ($29.99!), even though it had no box, was dirty and looked beat-up and used.
So they gave it to me for $10, final sale.
I think I can clean it up with Mr Clean magic eraser.

That's a good deal!
I once got a discount from Sport Mart because their swim cap (off white) was a bit dirty on the outside and wasn't in any package. I got it for like $2. It was regularly more than $20.
If I see a shirt and there is a stain and it's the last size on the rack, I'd ask for a discount. And some stores give it to me.

As the unofficial spokesperson for the Green Veggy Bags, I would like to report, that the results of my product testing is in. I shamelessy donated for likely extermination, one grapefruit. All grapefruits residing in the green veggy bags are as fresh as the day they went in. The single grapefruit that was doomed to a regular plastic bag is ready for the compost. I think PC needs to be reported to the SPCF (Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Fruit) for her cruelty to a grapefruit. (http://discoverseattle.net/forums/richedit/smileys/Teasing/5.gif)
(http://discoverseattle.net/forums/richedit/smileys/10.gif) But...but....I did it for us ALL. For the betterment of all fruit and veggy eaters everywhere. So....so, no longer would ANY of us have to toss our tomatoes before their time. (http://discoverseattle.net/forums/richedit/smileys/Sad/9.gif)
What changes have you noticed so far from using those green veggy bags, PC?
EVERYTHING stays fresher....WAY fresher. Green onions are something I often toss...not any more. They last until I have used the last bit. Peppers don't get that slime action on the cut edge. I like to buy the big container of spinach at Costco...but we don't usually see one of those through to the end either. But in those bags it stays perfect.
I transfer the stuff into them as soon as I unload the groceries. I love 'em !!! I haven't thrown out a morsel this month. (except for the sacrificed grapefruit....lol)
LOL MICHEL!!!!!!! You might put proactiv out of business.
LOL...you can even come out smelling clean and fresh!
If we've thought of it, someone has tried it.
I'm sure someone....someone has put a plastic bag over their face before going to bed...earning themselves a Darwin Award.

I don't know what kind of deal this is, but Costco has these little mini green beans, that are DEEEEEliscious. I look at them every time I'm there (they're right beside the Manns Peas that I also get), but we've never gotten them before. Mostly because the quantity is huge for 2 people.
So with the fabulous 'green bags', we thought we'd give them a try.
Anyways....they are a good deal for the amount you get, and they really are good.
Oh, my mom brought those ones and she made them for me when I was there last and they were yummy! She buys them all the time now.
I don't buy them because we don't end up eating green beans every day so I end up buying the organic green beans in the frozen section. They are super delicious. I follow the recipe on the back of the package.

If anyone is looking for a slow cooker, The Bay, Metrotown is selling the Hamilton Beach brand for $35 regularly $90. It's 6 quart, I think. We needed a new one because the one we had was over 17 years old (grandma gave it to us) and the heating element was starting to slow down.
Looks like this:

That looks like an awesome deal. I've been looking for a new one for a long time....but I'm looking for a small one. They are hard to find. The couple small ones that I've found are teeny and cheap. If you ever come across a good small one....let me know.
Are you looking for a 4-quart size, P.C.? You're right that they are harder to find. I wonder why it's so difficult.
We have a 4 quart but I was thinking that this 6 quart could make lots of lunches for work. :) And I read that many meals freeze nicely. I honestly don't know where I'm going to put this one as we barely have any space in the cupboards.
I bought a silly little one for like $60 with no fancy gadgets. What you have there is a good deal!
I'm not sure what the quart size would be....but the one I have is perfect for two.
I love those appliance garages....VERY nice. I don't even have the space for those, but they are nice in that you can keep the appliances on the counter, but out of sight.

An alternative to that, if you can spare a lower cupboard, is to get the hardware that 'cantilevers' them up on a shelf.
Nope....not so good. You can get rice cookers. I've never seen the value in them, as it's too simple to cook in a pot on the stove. Once you figure out your timing and temp....you'll get perfect rice consistently every time.

lol. Yes....an appliance to turn something as simple as boiling water into a twelve step process. Not to mention clean-up.

I bet he is.
I also don't use a rice cooker as well. I add a bit of sesame oil to my pot of rice. It smells nice and tastes great.
Oh, we made space for our crock pot in the cupboards. Yay!
This is what I do. Simplest ever.
Tiny bit of oil in bottom of a pot with a tight fitting lid (turned on high) . Get it hot....dump in one cup rice. Stir it around a bit....dump in 2 and 1/4 cups of water. Put lid on. Cook on high for 5 minutes.....turn down heat to medium for 5 minutes....turn down heat to minimum and cook until water is absorbed. Turn off heat.....and let it sit until it reaches the desired amount of 'fluffiness'. I prefer my rice a little heavier/moister.
I would say, go to the buck store and get a set of measuring cups.
Not many people I know put oil first. This is a little trick I learned many many years ago....and it has always worked for me....so I have just never changed it. I should also say, that different pots will cook differently. I have one pot that I have always used for rice....heavy walled pot. I tried cooking rice in another pot a few weeks back...and I used a different pot (something I have never done)....and it cooked totally different using exactly the same method.
I guess it requires a little experimenting....but it would be worth it. Rice is relatively inexpensive....and a little goes a long way.
*I started using the oil first method, when I discovered that I didn't care for the way garlic tasted in the rice....and yet I love garlic in my rice. It had a 'boiled garlic' taste. So the oil first method started, so I could saute up the garlic a bit before adding the rice and water.
Here's how I cook my rice:
1. Pour one cup of rice in the pot and wash the rice. I like to wash it to get rid of the starchiness.
2. Add two cups of cold water
3. Add a little bit of oil. I use sesame oil.
4. Bring to boil without lid and stir once.
5. Turn down to low and put the lid on. Cook for about 40 minutes.
In Step 3, you can choose to add whatever veggies you have. I finely chop up a celery and add small bits of chinese sausages. You can add peas. It cooks very nicely. If you have leftovers, stir fry it with whatever veggies/meat you have available. I like to buy the bag of pre-washed/cut coleslaw and mix it with the rice for a nice stirfry.
Most rice packages will have the cooking instructions.
ADD: I use a non-stick pot. But, my mom used to cook it in a metal pot and the rice would stick and the best part was eating it. It was so darn crispy with drizzle of sesame oil and salt!! YUMMMM!
Does anyone know if parboiled rice is ok vs long grain rice?
Cooking time depends on the rice, whether it's parboiled or long grain.
Par boiled ? Like minute rice ?

Wild rice would have different directions I think, Michel.

many meals freeze very well and when one is living on a budget. stews and soups are a great way to survive. the slow cooker is a awesome deal. i have been needing a new one since my brother accidentally threw away the lid for my 4 quarter one... works great no lid. so if u want one no lid send me pm and u can come get it. im pretty sure it's 4 quarts.
Michel...you can pick up a set like these at the buck store. It would be a cheap investment if you do learn to cook rice. Cooking up a big batch would see you through the week easily....and by adding whatever strikes your fancy, gives you some variety in your menus.

Thanks for the offer on the crockpot Orik. I'm thinking I will be looking for one with a lid (and I'm dreadful picky about things matching).....but that was very kind of you.
well ur lid still works but its no guarentee it would fit this model... it has a lid but no handle and a hole were one should be... hmm maybe i can invent some kind of a handle for it. out of something. save me 35 bucks... i will check the thrift store tommorrow for junk stuffs...
Orik have you thought to look at Value Village for a lid that would fit. I broke my crock pot lid and was able to find one there.
If you wear glasses, you can get a great deal online - CoastalContacts.com sells a bunch for $38, lenses included.
Um......careful on the spamming of that website. I removed 'cosmopolitan's' thread. It seems you are with the same company ?
As this thread is basically full of 'deals' with specific companies...this would be a more appropriate place for your 'Best Deal' than a whole thread on just that company. (http://discoverseattle.net/forums/richedit/smileys/Happy/14.gif)
