Title: Abandoned Google Projects
Post by: TehBorken on Mar 06 15 09:22
When something doesn't pan out or live up to Google's standards, they quietly kill it off and it fades away.

Quentin Hugon, Benjamin Benoit and Damien Leloup have created a memorial page for projects abandoned by Google over the years (http://www.lemonde.fr/pixels/visuel/2015/03/06/google-memorial-le-petit-musee-des-projets-google-abandonnes_4588392_4408996.html), but who knew there'd be so many?

The list of now-defunct projects and products include:  Google Answers, Lively (http://computer.howstuffworks.com/10-failed-google-projects.htm#page=1), Reader, Deskbar, Click-to-Call, Writely, Hello, Send to Phone, Audio Ads, Google Catalogs, Dodgeball (http://computer.howstuffworks.com/10-failed-google-projects.htm#page=4), Ride Finder, Shared Stuff (http://computer.howstuffworks.com/10-failed-google-projects.htm#page=6), Page Creator, Marratech, Goog-411, Google Labs, Google Buzz (http://computer.howstuffworks.com/10-failed-google-projects.htm#page=7), Powermeter (https://gigaom.com/2011/06/26/5-reasons-google-powermeter-didnt-take-off/), Real Estate, Google Directory, Google Sets, Fast Flip (https://gigaom.com/2011/09/05/419-google-kills-its-fast-flip-news-reading-experiment/), Image Labeler, Aardvark (http://www.businessinsider.com/google-kills-aardvark-which-it-bought-for-50-million-last-year-2011-9), Google Gears, Google Bookmarks, Google Notebook, Google Code Search (http://googleblog.blogspot.com/2011/10/fall-sweep.html), News Badges, Google Related, Latitude, Flu Vaccine Finder, Google Health, Knol (http://searchenginewatch.com/sew/news/2127299/google-shutting-knol-failed-products), One Pass, Listen, Slide, Building Maker, Meebo, Talk, SMS, iGoogle, Schemer (http://thenextweb.com/google/2014/01/11/google-confirms-will-shut-goal-sharing-service-schemer-february-7/), Notifier, Orkut, Hotpot (http://searchengineland.com/google-hotpot-going-away-but-in-name-only-72306), Music Trends, Refine, SearchWiki, US Government Search, Sparrow, Web Accelerator, Google Accelerator, Accessible Search, Google Video, and Helpouts. Missing from the list that we remember are Friend Connect, Google Radio Ads (http://computer.howstuffworks.com/10-failed-google-projects.htm#page=3), Jaiku (http://computer.howstuffworks.com/10-failed-google-projects.htm#page=5), SideWiki (http://computer.howstuffworks.com/10-failed-google-projects.htm#page=7), and Wave.

Very quietly kill them off, but the I'd never heard of a lot of them in any case. How the almost mighty are fallen. Btw, google gets up my nose.
