Title: Technical Stuff...help
Post by: P.C. on Nov 14 09 10:04
God I hate being such a noob about this stuff....but it's SO complicated.

OK....I bought a DVD/Karaoke player (for a gift) after learning that I needed a DVD player that supported discs in the CD+G format.  I understand that the +G means plus graphics.  Right.  So then I bought a boxed set of Karaoke discs....which only come in the CD+G format.

SO NOW....in the small print in the DVD/Karaoke Player owners manual, it says that it will play audio only....no scrolling lyrics on the TV.    Call me crazy, but doesn't that just make it just a regular ol CD Player ?  I mean...if it says it supports the CD+G format....[font style="font-weight: bold;" size="5"]then where's the G[/font] ?????

Does anybody know what I need to make this work.

IN all honesty i don't know. perhaps if you could tell me the model that you have, perhaps then I can try to find something on it for you...

on a totally diffrent problem problem,I can not get mthe Graphics on my radeon 9200 to work. older card but it should work in 3d but everytime i try my favorite gaming site runescape  it gives me just a big black screen or the j-ava crashes. it worked fine on my older HP machine fine but this Asus board and the intel graphics chip has been giving me nothing but headaches  sighs. so looks like we both have our work cut out for us trying to discern the problem..heck I even went as far as to do a fresh install and the best graphics driver the card will support.. but nothing. wonders if you threaten a inanimate object with destruction...

but when all else fails have you read the instructions..

lol  Now ball peen hammers I understand.  (//forums/richedit/smileys/Happy/4.gif)

Seriously though....I'm so bloody frustrated dealing with sales people, who have no idea of what they're selling.  Nobody is knowledgeable about their products anymore.  Nobody has any answers.  Shouldn't it be a major requirement, that at least ONE person on staff in any given retailer be available with some answers ?

I know it's not the fault OF the sales people....but of the buffoons that hire 'just anybody' to do a job that not 'just anybody' can do.  So then you kill another 20 minutes while they track down the manager, who is equally uninformed.    He fiddles around with his computer, surfing the net looking for answers for another 20 minutes and imparts the same amount of wisdom that I came in with.....which was very little.

This kind of thing has been the sole bane of my existence for the last few years.  I don't even want to imagine how much of my life has been spent pithered away looking for GD answers to questions regarding technology.  Oh lord....I'm exhausted.  Ranting sucks the life out of me.  And no....I don't feel better. It doesn't support CD-G (from the website and I read the manual). But, do not worry, CD-G isn't the only format for karaoke. (i've never used it except for my sisters old machine from the 90s).

From wiki:
"CD+G, DVD, VCD and microphone-based players are most popular for home use. Due to song selection and quality of recordings, CD+G is the most popular format for English and Spanish. It is also important to note that CD+G has limited graphical capabilities, whereas VCD and DVD usually have a moving picture or video background. VCD and DVD are the most common format for Asian singers due to music availability and largely due to the moving picture/video background."[/p]
Here's what CD-G looks like:

Here's what a DVD Karaoke would look like (this without the vocal for the lead singer)

with vocal for lead singer:

non-CD-G is more fun in my opinion.

wait. I'm confused now.
This manual says one thing and this website I'm looking at says another.

Does this person have an HDTV set up? That's what this system looks (i use this with caution from the 'looks' of the manual) that it goes on HD (HDMI)

if this person has an hdtv and the manual i see says it can play it. I don't see the problem.

But that manual in general was very confusing.

If I'm looking at the same manual that you are PC...then on page 17 it has a "note" section which says the following:

  1. To play the digital images and sounds of DVD video or DVD audio via and HDMI connection, it is necessary that both the player and display device support a copyright protection system called HDCP.

2. HDCP is copy protection technology that comprises data encryption and authentication of the partner equipment.

3. HDMI audio output works only if the digital output for the sound is set at the PCM option.

From my understanding...to show the video part of the Karaoke, you'll need

1. HDMI connectors and

2. HDCP on both TV and Player [A href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High-bandwidth_Digital_Content_Protection"]http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High-bandwidth_Digital_Content_Protection[/A]

It then goes into Karaoke Operation...[/DIV]

Thanks so much.

So the next step is, to take back the damn machine AND the Karaoke discs (CD+G's) and look for Karaoke DVDs.  See....now this is weird, because in my ignorance, Karaoke [span style="background-color: rgb(255, 64, 255);"]DVDs [/span]was the FIRST thing I asked for....but every place I went to said they don't carry them.  A few even told me there was no such thing.  (hence my frustration at places that don't know their stuff)

Thanks SD and Isis.  I appreciate it.  (//richedit/smileys/Happy/14.gif)
