Gotta say, those DV Mods should be embarassed of themselves. They delete threads with no expalantion, used to put people's IPs up (which is illegal) and yet let all sorts of other offensive threads and flames continue with impunity. Then they go on about how they are volunteers, etc. I think that they have volunteer confused with amateur -- they are certainly that! What a waste of bandwidth. Won't be going there anymore.

What a silly value to have in the querystring. lol. That's the problem with scripting. You can't make too many calls to the database at one time.
Never mind the forum I use. It's almost as bad queryStringWise. lol. It too was built by inward facing programmer types. However, I can also use values of my own making in the querysting because all my querystring shit is built on the fly, and since it's abstracted, I can just swap another provider in. I just haven't figured out how what I want it to look like. It should definately have crawl value though...
You should see the dataprovider my community uses. It's so f**kin sweet. No more sprocs! Holy sh*t! So modularized and object oriented I can build like the wind. I can also tear apart and reuse like the wind too. Refactoring man, that's what life is all about ;)

For a message board, it depends on what capability is built into it, and how much the admins/mods are permitted to see. Some display IP info publicly but most hide it as it's considered to be "Personally Identifiable Information" (and as such should be shielded from casual view).
Your IPs are hidden here except to mods and admins. As a site operator I don't release Personally Identifiable Information without a valid court order: [a href="http://www.discoverseattle.net/w3c/privacy.php"]DS Privacy Policy[/a].
I wished that DV had a site policy... It would make our lives sooo much easier. *sigh*

Anyway I guess I can't get on DV until you make IP's private and not public because the instant I say something...
On DV the IPs are private, in that only mods can see them. If you're waiting for IPs to be invisible to the mods...good luck with that. The mods need to see the IPs so that they can send ban requests to the tech people.
I don't think a DV mod has ever intentionally revealed an IP address, but I could be wrong. I remember one time it happened, but I think the mod had copied and pasted someone's post, and because they were in mod view it also pasted the person's IP.

Assuming the person being tracked is not being sneaky and using a proxy, you can tell who their ISP is at the very least. And if you know their ISP, and you know their IP, you can, assuming the poster breaks a law or whatever, contact the ISP and tell them that "whoever was using this IP addy at this time did X". Then, if the ISP decides to cooperate, the poster might actually get spanked.
Sometimes you can tell more than just who the ISP is. I logged onto Lady Jing's Web site and she was able to track me to within about 20 miles of my RL location, which is pretty damn good.
Then a Mod keeps outing me. Because I killed of my screen name as somebody from the lunch crew suggested so I came up with a differnt one. So some DV mod outed me.
Most of this is Greek to me, but I'm relatively certain you can't be banned just by your screen name.

Journaling helps. I think you should keep a note book by your bed....and just before you roll over in your favourite comfort mode before sleep.....you should write down a few positive thoughts about yourself, and how they affected your day. From smiling at somebody for no reason, or holding the door for someone, or giving someone directions......(you get my drift) NO NEGATIVES allowed in this book. Don't elaborate on things like....the person you smiled at (possible negative response ) because you have no control over that....you only have control over your own actions and reactions. For some reason, putting these things down in black and white, somehow validates them.
