I don't really think it matters who started the website, as long as the forum itself is good, and doesn't end up like trash (see: DV)
But yes it would be clever if it was TB or Mike (is that his name?) created that website, and promoted it as something different.
i took one look at that thing and knew that it was a DV project.
no one uses that software anymore but those guys. and i can't believe that anyone fell for the notion that it was genuinely a different forum.
Whether it's a DV thing or not, it's unusable... Every post has been spammed with oversized pics...
It's all about what you expect, I think. Anyone who knows DV even a little bit knows that it's like entering a house of tricks. Expect to be tricked, even by the admins, who may just use a spambot to kill a forum that they created as a test project, but never intended to catch on among regulars. Or did they?
Think of them as practitioners of the black arts of internet forums. Sometimes you will have fun when you play with evil, and sometimes the joke will be on you. If you don't like that, then just stay here with the good witches.

Yes you can. In forum code, although they disable it from time to time due to individuals posting oversized pics...

thanks all, suggestions are appreciated and actually DS is mentioned on the front page, but for some reason the blurb only shows up in explorer and not firefox, so that needs to be looked into, it's nice to see DS promoted there too
the picture problem is being worked on, some person was spamming with extremely large pictures in the post which would slow things to a crawl, so in the meantime pictures have been turned off... kind of unfortunate for the moment but it is all in starting out pains
funny when you do a google search on the word "handlejacking", DV DATW and DS all show up as the top 3 results LOL

So far, from what little I've witnessed of Discover Seattle, its tenor seems more mature and civilized than the baboonery on Vancouver Forum. The mods on DV can do little --- or so they say --- without registration. Some posters who hated me started putting up defamatory posts, accusing me of things I never did. Vancouver Forum is full of obscenity, bigotry, personal attacks, not to mention Canadians who love to hate and mudsling at the United States. Those people north of the border are supposed to be our closest kin. Yet some of the Vancouver posters' hate feels more like Iranian mobs burning our flag.
I just want a place where I can share my ideas and knowledge, and also learn from others while teaching them. Minds are like knives, in that they sharpen each other. I don't care what anyone opines; free speech is what makes America great. But we do need certain rules of honesty, civility and integrity. And those who choose to act like wild animals belong in a zoo.

APPEAL TO THE MODS AND RIGHT-MINDED POSTERS:
I am one of the refugees from cyber-lunacy at DV forum who has sought "political asylum", to be cutesy about it, at Discover Seattle. I'll try DS awhile, and then either formally register or leave. It's just like living with a woman. Test-driving the relationship is fine, but sooner or later you either commit to her or leave.
My only concern is that the new DV-leavers should not turn this forum into the same nonsense. Traditionally, Seattle Forum has seemed quite civil and well-thought-out. Lately, however, I have seen a few of the same personal attacks, the same bold-lettered yelling and screaming posts here.
I appeal to the mods to upgrade DS policies to deal with such scenarios. Please make it clear that those who indulge in histrionics, vulgarity, or vicious hate-spewing will be banned. One ex-DV person asked me if I ever shut up. Well if he/she wants me or anyone to shut up, let that poster move to North Korea. The whole purpose of a forum is to share one's ideas and feelings so long as this is done within the parameters of rules and decency.
Whatever you do, mods and co-posters, please guard against the danger that Discover Seattle could get infected with DV leprosy. We need culture and intellect, not vitriol and vulgarity.
You'll find that this place is nice & cozy, Vivek. Although there are enough DV trolls registered here, this site tends to keep everything nice and under control...
That being said, it won't be long until the urge to revisit DV hits you. It's just like a crack addiction... no matter how hard you try, you just keep going back for one last hit...

I used to do that all the time, Gordy! Lately I've been laying off the juice, as I was starting to overindulge just a bit... I wasn't sure how much longer my liver would've put up with the abuse!
I don't usually mind seeing summer come to an end....but they kinda forgot it this year. I spent the first half of the summer doing house and yard stuff, so I could kick back and enjoy the rest that never came.
