Who locked it and why?

Didn't think it was such a bad thread.

I was having fun there. [A onclick="addImg('icon/033.gif')" href="jvascript:void(0)"](http://www.discovervancouver.com/forum/icon/033.gif)[/A]

An Error Has Occurred!                         This was locked by an administrator.  You cannot unlock it.

^ Are you sure it was Lise that relocked that thread?

As far as I know there're 2 others with admin access on this board.

It could've been da Bork!

OMG Bork wants to assimilate the spirit guides!

As far as I can tell, there is no indication that ANY of the admins locked the thread.  I think if you locked it, you are the only one that can unlock it.  If that isn't working, TehBorken may have a better explanation for you.

PC, where do you see an indication of who did what? Do you have access to such logs?

On Yahoo groups for example, there's web activity section. So even if a group has 20 moderators, there's a record of who did what with any of the threads or configuration options.

I imagine SMF (the software used on this board) would have a similar feature as well, but I'm not sure if mods can access it.

Yes Raging Poodle....that's what I'm referring to.  There is nothing there that I can see that says anything about that thread being locked by the Admin.

I'm not making an attempt to explain how Lise posted in it after it was locked.  I have no idea.

What bothers me is that hers was a disparaging remark.

I'm NOT saying this is the case, but IF it's proven that she used her admin status to unlock a thread just so she could sneak in a disparaging comment and then lock it as if nothing happened, then that would make one think if  such a person could be trusted with admin access privileges.

Just thinking out loud here. NOT accusing anyone of having done anything inappropriate...

Angel, for someone who constantly needs to remind everyone that you're not a 'bad' person, you do a remarkable impersonation of one.

You accused the admins of foul play without ANY info what so ever.  AND THEN got uppity with our explanations.  (apparently they didn't meet your standards).  Not everyone is as devious as you.

You are the very type of person that coined the term DRAMA QUEEN.

SH Members and above can lock/unlock their own topics. Admins can lock/unlock any topic. I suspect this was a slip of the mouse. I've done it myself by accident; it happens from time to time. It doesn't mean anyone is out to get you or that the Thread-Locking Overlords are landing. I've deleted threads by accident, modified other people's topics by accident, etc etc. It happens, and I'd hope people would just stop looking for any sinister hidden meaning behind things like this.

7.is suggestible, i.e., easily influenced by others or circumstances  (Care to guess who?)

Angie's apology not only doesn't wash, it leaves an unspeakably despicable taint. A self-proclaimed synaesthete should be able to decipher this perfectly legitimate neologism, if she had any sort of sense, other than an overdeveloped sense of entitlement. Angie's non-apology to P.C., is inexcusable, as is her claim that she was attacked by PC.

The way I see it, none of the ugliness, bickering, banning threats, smites and everything else that took place in this thread was really necessary. [A onclick="addImg('icon/icon_smile_tongue.gif')" href="jvascript:void(0)"](http://www.discovervancouver.com/forum/icon_smile_tongue.gif)[/A]

Untampered pictures don't lie.

Untampered computer records don't lie.

[/DIV]

This issue could've easily been solved by a simple check of web activity records.

Granted I'm not an expert on SMF, but even the lousiest BB software I've seen usually keeps such records and I have no reason to suspect that SMF doesn't. (Those logs tell you EVERYTHING: Who did what, from what IP, at what hour, through which account, etc.)

If anyone made a mistake, it would've been spotted, admitted, and we would've all moved on, with none of this "could've/might've accidentally clicked on something" type of speculation BS clouding everyone's judgement.

And similarly, it's also possible that this event uncovered an unknown bug in the SMF software: In a friendlier environment, we would've all pitched in with our ideas to figure out the details of this bug so that Bork could notify the development team.

Oh yeah, start smiting away now... because I dared to express my opinion. [A onclick="addImg('icon/icon_smile_dead.gif')" href="jvascript:void(0)"](http://www.discovervancouver.com/forum/icon_smile_dead.gif)[/A]

Lol, you're funny. I vote you start your own site, pay for it out of your own pocket, and then take requests like this from anonymous posters.

The way I see it, if you didn't keep dredging this up and trying to make an issue of it, it would be over and done with and no one would give a damn.

And how would you know that they were untampered?

If that feature was turned on it would have.

You could do that anyway, Raging Poodle, except you're choosing not to. Get a grip, dude, I have better things to do, in fact I have a hugely full plate of stuff to do today already. If you don't like the way this place is run or things like this bother you so much, change the channel. I can't believe I've wasted the time it takes to write this response, but I'm trying to be polite and let you know that I'm listening to what you're saying.

Lame. Posters should never have the power to edit and delete their stuffs freely.

That kind of thing only works in a utopian society where you can trust your brothers and sisters.

I'm happy with it. It helps keep occassional typos and grammatical errors to minimum, and ultimately that reflects well on the image of the board as well.

When one is in an environment where everyone writes with minimal errors, then an outsider joining that environment would also feel compelled to pay attention to the quality of their writing.

How interesting.  A mod just snuck in on DV and conveniently deleted the thread titled Raging Poodle is a big baby !!!!!!!! ([SPAN lang=EN-CA style="FONT-SIZE: 12pt; FONT-FAMILY: 'Times New Roman'; mso-fareast-font-family: 'Times New Roman'; mso-ansi-language: EN-CA; mso-fareast-language: EN-US; mso-bidi-language: AR-SA"]TOPIC_ID=149223) [/SPAN]where had raor had posted some really nasty words about PC and another poster aluded to raor being TehAngel.  (http://www.discovervancouver.com/forum/icon/icon_smile_clown.gif)

I just posted that I thought that the poster may have removed it themselves, because there is no indication that it was removed by an admin.  But after checking with a newer member, I realize that there isn't an option to remove their own threads.  I thought there was. (???)  I'm baffled.

I noticed that today also. What was there to delete in that thread?

From what I remember, there was some joking back and forth.

Not even the OP was hateful enough about me. (That the thread didn't even make it to my list.)

Yet a whole bunch of hateful threads DO remain, and ARE left to fester, despite repeated requests for their removal.

So no, I didn't save a copy of it. The thread didn't seem to be out of the ordinary in terms of the info it contained to warrant its being saved.

Wow, all you hypocrites! That thread "Raging Poodle is a baby" had major hatred inside from the FallenBeotch (aka raor, lepititis, HailyBaily, HtotheB, Theangel and all the other handlejacked names of every regular that she could get her hands on)

The hate was towards PC once again, such spite coming from Raging Poodle! and raor, so willing to go back and forth on that issue! Methinks, it shouldn't have been deleted, would have been a good idea to keep that one on hand so people could recognize the angel from hell! Go ahead Raging Poodle! and guests, everyone saw it, let's see all the denial now! (//forums/richedit/smileys/7.gif)

Quoted for truth. After Academe left things did change. And then, for reasons I can't fully explain, months later it was like she was back in spirit.

As far as deleting "hatred" on DV, we need to define our terms a bit. I'm Ok with "hate crimes" being dealt with (depending on what you mean by that), but it's DV, and if you're talking about deleting brutal flames just because they hurt someone's feelings then I think you're dead wrong. Bickering and flames is part of what made DV so special.

Life is rough. Wear a f*cking helmet.

People who get flamed and then demand that the flames are deleted make me sick. I think there is room for argument when the flame turns into ongoing harassment that last for weeks (i.e. SG's behavior), posting personal info etc. but otherwise, seriously, get a spine.

And I couldn't give two shits on a stick about whether a judge agrees with me. The Internet isn't made of nerf, nor should it be.

True. Unfortunately true.

I don't know if macademe was responsible for creating that atmosphere or she was just a scapegoat, but currently on DV we're back to an environment of powertripping, headgames, all sorts of nastiness, unfair deletions... you name it.

I don't know what gets to people's heads.

I don't know how having access to a simple delete function affects one's psychology and self perception.

And I don't know how people you've known almost as "friends" can change so drastically as to become unrecognizable.  :(

I don't know if macademe was responsible for creating that atmosphere...

I don't think so. I don't know of any current mods who stuck up for her behavior at the time. I think some of them would be shocked to think that they are straying into Academe's realm. They don't see it. I saw a noticeable change in mod behavior after Steve (admin Steve) began taking a more active role in the modding world.

He began to personally delete threads and posts that under his own earlier edicts would have been safegaurded. Deleting posts because someone just rubs you the wrong way is always a bad sign. So much for his "if it doesn't fall into X category, LEAVE IT UP!" rule. Instructing mods not to explain any of our actions to users and to essentially ignore all complaints about our judgement also set the tone for the current mod squad. I don't mean to beat a dead horse, but a complete lack of accountability naturally leads to abuse.

Steve's biggest blunder was to provide mods with an excuse to give in to that tugging temptation to allow ego, rather than policy to drive decision-making. When you see a manager (and that is in effect what Steve is) brazenly violating policy and promoting the idea that users just aren't worth talking to, shit happens.

I don't know how having access to a simple delete function affects one's psychology and self perception.

And I don't know how people you've known almost as "friends" can change so drastically as to become unrecognizable.  :(

They are still the same people, except when they're modding.

And some of the mods have actually done a pretty good job. Despite what Orik said, I think X is an outstanding mod. If he had Steve's job I sort of doubt we would be having this conversation.

Carefully going over what he wrote and how he wrote it, I think you're right. The reference in that sentence appears to be to the "mod friend". (I don't know who that mod friend might be, but that's irrelevant.)

I must've been influenced by his earlier retarded allegations to be confused in the second half of his message:

That thread "Raging Poodle is a baby" had major hatred inside from the FallenBeotch (aka raor, lepititis, HailyBaily, HtotheB, Theangel and all the other handlejacked names of every regular that she could get her hands on).

The hate was towards PC once again, such spite coming from Raging Poodle! and raor, so willing to go back and forth on that issue! Go ahead Raging Poodle! and guests, everyone saw it, let's see all the denial now!

Maybe raor's mod friend deleted the thread because it implicated her "major hatred" toward PC?  I don't remember Raging Poodle! saying such things about PC, but if he did, bad ferret!

Fair is Fair, his act of always protecting and rescuing the fallen one could be misconstrued at times, one could surmise him to be an accomplice and not a perpetrator.

It was a late night thread and I was LONG asleep when it was deleted.

I witnessed only the beginning of it and in the morning it was gone.

 So whomever said

I don't remember Raging Poodle! saying such things about PC, but if he did, bad ferret!

 is correct.

Why should I talk about someone, esp. in a hateful way, when the person may or may not be reading DV?

If I have anything to say to PC, I can say it to her face. I don't need to talk behind anyone's back.

Funny thing is, I don't even have anything bad to say about her. So that makes those claims doubly ridiculous.

Shitterbug had created that thread to annoy me, but I was more amused than annoyed. There wasn't any Raging Poodle! flaming going on in that thread  and I was sleepy enough. So I thought, whatever happens I can see it tomorrow.

The next day, it was gone. Ok no big deal.

Next time you see a juicy thread, and if you're going to make claims about it later, you should save it like I do so you can resurrect it later if need be.
