Dunno. It will probably end up back in the government's pocket.

Hey! That would be a pretty sweet return if you could buy a bike or the sun!

I will throw a spotted owl BBQ party for all my friends.

Yes, I think it is something like you pay 1000% tax and get a .01% climate action dividend.

Those may not be the exact percentages...but something like that.

What if everyone bought $100 worth of Gas-X?  Would that improve air quality in the province?

I've started to memorize the bike routes of Vancouver. Gosh it would be so awesome if they had a bike path from UBC to downtown if it only wasn't for the Point Grey neighbourhood. lol

"Starting in late June 2008, the dividend will be mailed automatically to every eligible adult who has filed either a 2006 or 2007 personal income tax return for British Columbia. [span class="354595720-27052008"]Parents whose children are registered for the Canada Child Tax Benefit will also receive a $100 payment for each child.[/span]

Once the tax return is assessed, the dividend will be mailed automatically to the mailing address provided on the tax return.

Even if you or your spouse have little or no income to declare, the sooner each of you file your individual tax returns, the sooner you will each receive your one-time $100 dividend."
The definition of resident for the Climate Action Dividend is the same as resident for income tax purposes. An individual is generally considered to be resident where the individual, in the settled routine of their life, regularly, normally or customarily lives. The following factors, among others, would normally be considered in determining residency status: the location of the individual's home, spouse, and dependants.

LOL all my friends are getting this, hilarious. If I only was able to land a job during the school year on campus. lol Wait, according to the rules I had 'residency in BC' by Dec. 2007. So who knows. lol

Starting in late June 2008, the dividend will be mailed automatically to every eligible adult who has filed either a 2006 or 2007 personal income tax return for British Columbia.

Don't you have to have had a job in BC to file a personal income tax return ?  No offense SD, but I think I'd almost be a little PO'd if you WERE eligible.

Well it says on the website you don't have to be a Canadian citizen. I have a Canadian address and the Federal government considers me a resident.

Yeah, I only did federal stuff not BC.
Doesn't matter anyway, I'd find away to not spend it. I don't understand the need for 'tax breaks' especially where I come from are usually geared toward only to the wealthy and a call to cut essential services for normal people. I just see them as a gimmick for vote buying on the working class when these 'tax breaks' don't help the overall majority of the country.

I spent mine on an ocean cruise to Vancouver on the Queen of Much Needed Repair.   What a sad state those ferry's are in.  The washroom was repulsive.  I remember a time, that during any trip, there was always ongoing maintanence.....fresh paint on the railings, swabbing the poop deck.........Now?....nothing.

I wonder if someone shouldn't familiarize them with the concept that, sometimes to MAKE money...you have to LOWER the prices.  The trip on the way over was filled to only 22% capacity.  That is insane during the summer months.  Granted, travelling in general is down with the cost of fuel, but that is just wrong.  I know I would use the ferries more often if the price were reasonable.

I will always prefer to have safety, cleanliness, respect of the users and efficiency before profits. For what I remember, the ferry were not frequent enough, very expensive compare to the rest of Canada and food was just terrible.

I agree Michel....and it once was.  The ferries (a long time ago) used to be every hour on the hour.  Always.  Extra sailings on holidays and during the summer.  They were clean, the staff was friendly, the food was good.  Now it costs 5 times as much, and none of those things are present.

It took 2 hours and 10 minutes for my trip over.....it's supposed to an hour and 35 minutes.  We sat out in the bay for 20 minutes as the captain explained that they were cleaning the dock.  What the.....!!!!!!  TIMING PEOPLE....TIMING !!!!

Buffet is good.. its also quiet in there which i like. I hate it when Im seated in there and a family comes in with screaming kids that run all over the place.. Usually next to me. Not that its not allowed or anything.. everyone was a kid at one time or another. I just seem to get them beside me. lol.

i find I usually wait until halfway through the ride before going into the meal lineup otherwise I do get swamped in a huge lineup.

Starfishie and myself do like what you do PC.. we stay down in the vehicle reading or playing crib.

Although we did go up AND EAT last night, as it would have been so late by the time we got home.  I had dined on take-out for 10 days and was looking for something more.....food-like.  Wrong place to do it.  Tonight we DINE.

Ah so you missed the cruise ship that already had graffiti on it (when I took it) lol.
Well if you think the soon to be replaced ferries are bad, you didn't take the ones that were commissioned in the 50s.

Apparently in order to restart to my BC Med, I've got to go back to the government building I 'suspended' it. So that means a ferry trip! woot, bring back old times.

I have no problem with them advertising that we are hosts to the world in 2010, and we have lived on the island longer than you have been alive so I think we have seen, sailed and suffered on all the shitcans BC Ferries has put afloat.

Well, I took the 50s ferry once, thought it was depressing. That's all, but I found it cool at the same time, its 'oldness'. The "graffiti" was not the Olympic stuff, I'm not anti-olympics or pro-olympics (although Nanaimo's Olympic screen is a bit silly) although everybody at home thinks its cool and gets jealous. Somebody wrote/sprayed on the viewing deck.

Maybe not....but I still recognize a filthy tub when I see one.  I don't 'think' the B.C. Ferries are in a bad state of repair.....I KNOW they are in a bad state of repair.  And the lack of pride in the fleet is blaringly apparent.

yeah. Brings me back to my Nanaimo days when 4 of us would on a friday night, spontaneously take the last ferry to Vancouver. "Last ferry to Freedom" hahaha

Doesn't matter to me what the ferry is, still get a kick out of taking them. Then again, I like all non-car transportation. Get to act like a kid thinking to myself "Look at me, I'm taking a ferry, holy cow this is awesome."

Get the same feeling with skytrain. lol

I think we as a society don't have pride in much of anything anymore. Part of the culture now, people don't value a job for example, because we're all drifters now, we can freely move from one job to another. We don't have 'identification' anymore. We like new things, (bridges, boats, tvs, computers) but do we rarely ever keep something long? Hardly. Something new comes out we replace it. Materialism mixed with short attention spans. Like the Minnesota bridge collapse or a new arena or stadium for a sports team. If its old (something more then a decade old), its no good, get rid of.

Wow, indeed this is a lot !!! Ridiculous, if they lower the price, they would sure get more visitors, this would help the island.

True Michel......and not only for the benefit of tourism.  Residents with family (on either side) would likely use it more regularly if the fare were reasonable.  I would probably visit far more often....I have family on the mainland.....and they would do the same. I could easily see myself visiting 10 times more than I do.....and I know a ton of people with the same thoughts.[/DIV]

That novelty would wear off rather quickly I'm afraid.  When it becomes the means to connect with family that are no more than a couple hours away, but it costs half a months mortgage payment, then it's not so awesome.

Personally, I've gone through different systems with recycling bins, bags, etc.  I've ditched them all in favour of leaving a day's worth of newspapers, cans, etc. by the door and then getting the crap outside every night (into the big blue bins) instead of storing it forever in my hallway.

Hubby takes all our recyclable himself.....we don't do the curb thing.  We bag our booze bottles in separate small bags and leaves them on the ground beside the bins for the binners instead of cashing them in.  He started noticing that they were there very early in the morning going through the huge recycle dumpsters at the Home Depot.....so now he just makes it a little easier for them.
