Title: Removing or deleting posts.
Post by: P.C. on Feb 07 06 11:42
After saying a few things, that I knew beforehand that I would delete, I really felt it is a luxury with the potential of becoming abused.   (can't think of a better term).  I did it, but it really felt like cheating.  Removing ones own comments renders the thread nonsensical. The person who had responded to your posts gets left behind looking like they were engaged in a conversation with themselves (making them look undeservedly foolish). (I did that too....although I felt the need to warn the poster that I was going to in fact, 'remove' a couple comments I had made).

I think that all responses should have some thought behind them, and that the poster should be accountable for what they have said.   Am I off base here, or does anybody agree ???

I do agree. Keeping something permanent definately keeps you thinking more about what you post before you post it. And we should all do our best to keep this place the anti-DV, and keep it lively and comfortable.  [/DIV]I didn't even know that was a feature here.

Yea, Future Canadian.  I did it, and it really felt kinda 'scummy'.  I don't think I'll be doing it again.

Hey P.C. , maybe it'll come in handy sometimes.  Just enjoy yourself. Night.

I agree with P.C., although I was thinking more about the ability to edits ones' own posts after the fact.
This could end up being very confusing.
Maybe if there was a little flag to denote that a thread's been modified?
I dunno...

That could work too tenkani...it just doesn't feel right for some reason.

It's a little different to modify a post, than to remove it all together, although modifying still excuses one for being accountable for what you say. If you say it, you should own it.  Perhaps I'm being a bit anal, I don't know.

I know how to remove but I don't know how to delete. And where's this karma function the adm is talking about?

Well....I'm still wondering whether or not to turn Karma on.

If enough people want to try it out, I'll enable it. If it's not being used or no one wants it we can always turn it back off.

Admin, I hope you didn't take my comments as criticism. [img style="CURSOR: pointer" onclick=url(this.src); src="http://www.cheesebuerger.de/images/smilie/frech/d025.gif" border=0]  I sure don't mean it to sound that way.

so did admin. start up the karma?

Tell ya what- I'll turn this on tonight or first thing tomorrow and let everyone play with it for a bit. After you all have had a chance to see what it's all about we;ll decidfe if we want it on or off. Sound like a plan?

Also, I'm going to be out much of the day tomorrow carting my friend back and forth to the hospital so I won't be around to see how it goes, but message me and I'll check in once I get back.

Okay, the "+/-" type of Karma is enabled. You may "applaud" a poster or "smite" a poster depending on what you feel is appropriate. (The applaud/smite links appear under their avatar.)

There's another setting for Karma that just shows a simple "Karma total", but I think the "+/-" type is better.

Now, go out and smite someone, lol. :)

LOL!

The only thing that I see that could be tweaked is to change the word "applaud" to something else. I kind of like "bless", but only because it goes along with the biblical tone of  'smite'.

Whaddya think? (alternate suggestions welcome)

I just checked my thesaurus...[/DIV]Nope, I can't find anything cooler than "bless"!

Isn't that cool? If I see someone I like I stop and dispense good karma. What a cool idea. This site is filled with them.
