Who has ever quit a job......and why ?
I had to quit two jobs that I could remember. One as a bookkeeper and the other was a sales associate for a jewelry store. That was when I was about 18ish. It was due to personal reasons.

I quit a job managing a pub because my paycheques were bouncing and the owners were psycho.
I've quit my job at least 10 times now but for some reason I keep coming back. Oh well I'm really quiting in July because I'm moving! lol

I worked at a veterinarian's office and quit after having to hold a cat and watch it die after he had given it a lethal injection. I would seriously rather clean toilets with my mouth than do that again.

That reminds me of a story my mom used to tell me about my dad. He got fired from a job at the local pound. Apparently dad dodged every street where he would see a stray dog and was rather 'inaffective' at his job. Mom was mad at him for losing the job, but understood he was an extreme animal lover and was simply in the wrong job. ( this was many many many years ago)

Things there have become unbearable Lil Me. I've chatted with a few people about this mess and this is the first time I'm putting it 'out there' because it's taken me a few weeks to come to terms with what's going on there. It's a job I really love, but the direction it's taken with the new manager is VERY VERY apparent that he doesn't want women there. (and I'm being very kind in that assessment)
Holy....I'm amazed what simply putting this out there has done. I've been fighting the tears all day which has turned my stomach into a knot.....but hearing your comments has allowed me to let er rip.

Take that back I've quit 2 other jobs before.
When I was 14 I was an umpire at my local baseball diamond. I just gave up and quit. Couldn't take the abuse from abusive fathers yelling at me from the stands that I was drunk or blind. Then I almost ejected a manager at 6 year old machine slow pitch baseball game over a call. He started yelling at me and saying crap. 6 YEAR OLDS!!!! WTF! Everybody got to bat, the games didn't mean anything, why get so bitchy! ugh!!!
Then the other time I quit was a caddie at a posh golf course. I didn't even make through orientation after I got the job. Me being a caddie to rich people just doesn't sit well with me. I learned to play the game by walking and carrying the bag by myself, not to have some kid do it for me.
There there PC... I feel for you... :) Your happiness is first and foremost at a job... When you leave, something better always comes around, always. :) I know how it feels to be alienated and to feel "not wanted" at a job...it's better for your heart and soul that you don't work there. Another job will appreciate you more than your current one. :))

I've been self employed in various ventures my whole life, so quitting was more a matter of throwing in the towel when a business became more painful and less profitable than it was worth.
I ran a printing business for a number of years, and started to really hate it, the squeeze on profit margins, heavy competition for a limited market, working with solvents and inks, accounts receivables growing and becoming a full time job trying to collect.... etc etc etc
I finally had enough and just shut it down one day, lived like a pauper for months and went on to the next phase of my life... best decision I've ever made :)
(funny, in the middle of that crisis I also broke up with a long long term girlfriend as well, so it was all a big time of change and upheaval, but looking back I am glad for it, stronger for it, and better off for it)
Oh wow, Mr P. Good for you, to take that risk and quit your job. Sorry to hear about the breakup with your long term companion. But, I'm glad to hear that everything turned out for the better and you have no regrets. :)))
thanks, but yeah, at the time it felt like the world coming down on my shoulders... but time does heal and it is amazing how your perspective on things changes so much after just a short period of time, and even moreso years after! what seemed insurmountable and like the end of the world at the time seems so minor a year or two later :)

Point taken Lil Me. Hubby actually had a resignation letter drawn up for me when I got home. (again......not because he's domineering....but because I phoned him from work this morning (again)just to hear his voice so I wouldn't cry at work)

I don't think I could handle being in a regular job, now, actually... after you have roughed the entrepreneur way most of your life it becomes difficult to do anything else...
one important skill that is required is to be able to live under the stress of uncertain financial outlook at times.... there is no security in jumping in to this life path, but there are alot of plusses for those that are up to it

Thanks Mr Pom. I KNOW that, but there are so many other circumstances in play here. I love the job.....I love the people I deal with on a daily basis. I like everything about it except for the toxic atmosphere the new manager (and all his buddies he's hired) are creating.
I have actually worked for myself for many years. That has it's own stresses for sure....but at least when you analyze them.....they are usually a wake up call to correct something in yourself. (my biggest issue was structuring my own time)
Again Lil Me. SO true. Some men think they need to fix every problem we present, when sometimes all we need is an ear and some support.
I think this has gone beyond that and he is doing his level best to not be pushy....but emphatic, that it's not a healthy place to be. And he's right.

When I was about to quit the pub job, I spent all night on the phone talking to my friend's roommate. Friend wasn't home, so I spilled my guts to the roommate- and she convinced me to quit.

I have quit many, many jobs and have rarely, if ever, looked back. I see it as part of my career evolution. Plus, no one needs to work in an unsatisfactory atmosphere any more. Your life is more important than that. I know its hard for people who are lifers in certain jobs, my mom was at a company for about 15 years (!) which is amazing to me, and shocking...it was very hard for her to leave but the stress wasnt worth it. Unfortunately, until i find another line of work I just keep leaving jobs because I get so bored...I would love to have a job i enjoy. I have also had my own biz and will probably do that again, there is nothing like being self employed. Yup.

No, I am back in a holding pattern for now at a full time job. My current job is serving the purpose of paying off some bills..I am preparing to move to the island. I am definitely planning to become self employed again in the future though. Great fun! Anyway, good luck with your resignation, I know, its always hard in some way even if you need to leave...
The Island is great....especially if you're into anything in the artistic world. It's lacking in some of the 'night life' activities, but has many other things to offer to those looking for something other than that.

I've been in an environment opposite to yours. All female staff.
This was never openly expressed but you could feel that men were unwelcome there.
You could also feel how 1-2 particular individuals were intensifying the toxic atmosphere with their attitudes.
I never got to work there full time, and looking back I feel that was the best thing that could've happened.
If you're feeling unwelcome, and if your perception is correct, either you can choose to prove that you're being discriminated based on your gender (uphill battle, but could be financially rewarding in the end), or just move on and find an environment where you'll be more welcome.

Anyways....back on topic. I printed up my resignation letter this morning !!!! I already feel a heap has been lifted off my shoulders. Now all I need to do is make sure I've got the guts to plop it on his desk today. This is a good day to do it, as it's 'meeting day'.

I must admit that both times I walked out of jobs I did have regrets afterwards - however in both instances they were regrets that I'd not left earlier. Once away, it all seemed such an easy thing to do. I felt as though I were a soul released from purgatory.

don't quit though until you have another job lined up. Tried to keep telling this to my friend and he actually listened to me and then thanked me for saying that because he was looking for a new job for 2 months. That would have been 2 months of being un-employed, if he just got up and quit first.

Yup. I plan on destressing for a week or two and to keep my eyes and ears open for any openings. I gave a 2 week notice.

As to your original question, I've quit on many dentists, many times. Some were just plain horrible to me and others..... well, their methods and policies did not match with me. What they do to the public was something I could never do. I would never put a patient in that chair knowing that they dentist "cut" corners. e.g. "sterilizing" things that are meant to be used once than thrown out.

That would be impossible to work for someone with those kinds of ethics Lise. Good on you for sticking to yours. It really helps to have the luxury of finding a job that's a perfect fit. Dentistry is such up close and personal work......associating yourself with someone who doesn't take that with the ultimate seriousness wouldn't work for most, but I'm sure there are obviously people out there for whom it's just a paycheque.

I know exactly how you feel. Some dentists that I work with, they just treat you like a servant or slave. Like they don't care about your feelings or the fact that you're a human being with feelings.
I say, good for you, Ms. PC. Now your workplace will know how it feels like to lose a valuble member of their workforce. Good luck to them trying to find a replacement for you.
Perhaps they will come back and offer you more money and better working environment when they can't find someone else.
I don't think more money would interest me in the least and the only way to a better work environment would be to get rid of the jackasses that are making it stink.
This isn't something that was 'in the air'. It wasn't an uncomfortable 'feeling' that they wanted the women out of there....they openly said 'WOMEN DON'T BELONG HERE' and have referred to us (the only 2 gals) as the 2 c*nts in the 'workplace'. Nice. This was within his first week on the job. I guess you can say stuff like that when the boss is your buddy. It's sickening. I left work everyday feeling sick and every morning going in was the same nausiating feeling.

I quit two jobs!!=D The only two I ever had. The first one was horrible, it was always busy, crappy uniform, the mangers didn;t know what they were doing, and I hate to work anyway, especially dealing with the public, always having to smile and be nice. Evan when the cusomers are rude/wrong and stupid. so I quit, and the next job was okay, I quit because they kept giving me too many shifts. I'm going to school and they wanted me to work 6 days a week, all day sunday, open and close. and like 5 every weekday til 9:30, I never got home til after 10.PM, after I counted the cash. So I quit. besides I hate crappy public jobs like those anyway. No more job for me until I finish college and do something I actually like.

things seemed to be getting too serious over there. too much negative energy.
i can see and i can accept flaming from time to time, as an art. but what's not art, is the same little group of people making it their dv mission to make sure i have a terrible time online by following me around from thread to thread and ruining my threads, anytime i made a post. it's always the same people, and always the same comments. with always the same consistency. it gets old.
i think they should re-name the board for what it really is.... "the fight club" and no one else will get the wrong idea about it. i know i should fight back, but i don't feel i should have to "fight" every time i want to say something. it just creates more negative energy.
what kind of a screwed up place is that, that the mods encourage you to fight? if i were a mod, i'd rather have the posters getting along than fighting. i would be trying to encourage good behaviour in posters, and conversation. that's just me though. i don't see the world through the same coloured glasses as some of the current mods do.
i don't hardly even bother to read dv now, as why would i want to open a thread and read about someone wanting to "ass-rape" somebody else??? i don't need to see that. no one needs to read that kind of filth.
in my mind, dv is not worth the price of admission.
i tried to flame, tried to fit in by fighting. tried to get used to it. i have tried to play some other characters.
it just doesn't work, because it's not me.
it doesn't feel right. i just can't do it. my heart's not in it
i just, i just like kittens. :(

The sun was shining and it was the last day for yearly passes to be used up.....so there were a ton of members and regulars there.....so got to say some good-byes to lots of my favourite people. (golf course for those who never knew....I worked in the pro-shop)
I came out of there mis-shapen for being hugged to smithereens. It was sad and great at the same time.
