I got "Windows cannot connect to server" when I tried. Looks like it would be interesting.
Dang, it's down at the moment. I was watching it ast night and it was pretty cool- you could hear the birds chirping away like mad and flying around the pond. It'll probably be back up later.
works now. looks like a lake, but no animals yet. middle of the night there perhaps.
It's not down, that's what they are telling you.
It's the animals who are refusing to get on the stage.
They are tired of working overtime without adequate pay.

Plenty of animals go drink at night.
Where're the starving kids with flies buzzing around their heads?
OH WOW.... I see....... NOTHING. Zippo. No animals. Where are the lions?????
I've just been watching a large herd of zebras, as well as several deer and a few birds. One of the zebras looked as though she was very advanced in pregnancy, and she got separated from the herd. The camera shifted away and I'm wondering what happened to her. I guess that later in the evening is the best time to watch.
I've seen a bunch of large birds rummaging around in the pond and once the cam operator zoomed in on some kind of giant pig or baby rhino that was way off in the background. Last night we saw some kind of dog/jackal/wolf prowling around the pond.
Windows Media Player opens but for some reason I don't get anything...
This address

works with Internet Explorer but I get only sound - which is nonetheless fascinating ... I minimized the browser and keep the sound as a nice background... :)
Does anyone know why it doesn't work ?
Wow, right now there are elepahnts roaming around and the cam operator is following them. Way cool.
Update: The elephant is drinking and giving him/herself a bath, very interesting to watch
Update: It's ambling off into the distance after having a snack. Going, going, gone.
Something flew across the screen. A bug? It's still night time.
What time do you guys view this thing? Is it always night time on the web?
A blind spider may well think so.

There are a lot of bugs that are visible at night (when it's in infra-red mode) that look like ghostly trails. There is some overlap of the daylight hours. I look at it whenever I remember to, here and there during the day or evening.
I was viewing it not too long ago and jaysu, the camera moved! From left to right. Who controls this thing anyways?
Poop
I see nuttin.
I didn't see anything until about 10 o'clock last night, but the interesting stuff didn't start until they started gathering around the water around 11:20. Possibly there is still good viewing early in the morning around 6 AM.
its never been able to work for me.
I've had it on several times, and have seen nothing. Now I can't even get it to come on.
OMG OMG OMG.....I got it, and there's a whole herd of something or other there.
P.C. wrote:

I see 'em, some kind of horse or donkey or something.
It's on long focus, but it's about the right time for the zebras.
There was a whole whack of them....but by the time I finished posting, they were all walking away.
I'm thrilled I got to see them !!!!!!!!
Does it take forever to load, because I've got DSL Cable and its taking forever.
I found it took a while, but I think it's well worth the wait. The sounds alone make it worthwhile, and the camera seems to close in when there is activity.
I had a heck of a time with it tonight, Sportsdude. I tried it about a dozen times before it opened.
its half way loaded.
Hi Kitten and TehBorken
Hi P.C., Sportsdude and TehBorken. They must be having trouble with the connection. It says at the bottom that it's attempting to reload.
Sportsdude, I didn't wait for it to load.....I just kept retrying. Good luck.
I can see I'm going to be hooked on THIS.
Good night all.
Goodnight, P.C. Happy dreams.
Now I can't get it at all. First it said network error, and the next time it said there were no results for that link.
Evening kitten. Working fine for me. theres birds twittering. its 2234 right now
holy smokes, i see an elephant! when is feeding time?
this looks like a whole different camera.
You see an elephant ???? I just have a bird. There were a couple kudus or something a few minutes ago.
They're back....and monkeys too
And here comes an elephant
i wonder if this is live or a tape? the camera is following the elephant so someone must be sitting there controlling this.
I'm thinking it must be some kind of game reserve or something. Isn't it unusual that there is only a single elephant? I thought they normally would be with a herd.
There is also a road running right by that pond.
Wildebeests!!!! OMG.....I can hardly tear myself away.....I have to get to work.*cry*
kingy wrote:

It's definitely live. Yes, there's a cam operator who occasionally repositions the camera. Kinda cool to watch all the wildlife.
someone get the bug off the lens
11.06 am Vancouver time - A fRACKEN WHOLE HERD OF BUFFALO!!!
Finally. I see an animal. Booyaa!!!
Herd of zebras coming in now for a drink.
An elephant!! OMGOMGOMG.... can't believe the last time I got this excited. (http://discoverseattle.net/forums/richedit/smileys/Happy/11.gif)
What? Forgotten the birth already?
Teeeehhheee..... ah yes, well... there's that. (http://discoverseattle.net/forums/richedit/smileys/Happy/13.gif)
Hope you don't mind me sharing this on DV, TB. I think it's so cool, it should be shared with the rest of the folks there.
And also helps to add your site link there too.
They were followed by a small herd of zebraa, who then scattered at a gallop when two elephants showed up. I'm absolutely hooked on this. I was up until after midnight watching.
still haven't been able to see the site!

Yaaaaa!! Happy for you, SD. Join in the fun.
Now why is it that whenever I view this thing, I heard that blasted jungle song... y'know... the one with 'where the lion sleeps tonight....'
WTH? Saw a blinking light across the screen near the trees and bushes.
UFO?!?!?!??!
Argh. Man, am addicted to this site already. Damn you, TB!!!
did anyone here ever watch that eagle cam this spring. i was addicted to that.
That eagle cam? Oh yeah, I remember that. Way back when it was really popular and the entire world was waiting for the eggs to hatched. Too bad it never did.

There was one about a panda.... can't remember the link. Panda gave birth or something like that.
yeah the panda cam then the panda mom sat on that little guy and squished it. Pandas are the only animal/human where the babies are fugly, in my opinion.

I don't know if this is a bother or not, just thought I would ask.

Hmmm, how about if I consolodated all of the pinned links on to a single page and then pinned that? Kind of a one-stop-shop for the popular links.
Oh yes, definitely pin this sucker up. Needs to be up there!!!!
6.00pm. Bloody slow. Keeps buffering.

Lise posted Live Africa Cam on the DV site. I could only watch the first 2 minutes until it buffered out.
Shame really, the animals bought back memories of my recent girlfriend....not so recent really.....Fuc*, why lie, the one I got at the moment.....she looks a bit like a friggin Zebra....I stay with her cos she cooks well.........;-)
I see there going to put up a Grouse Mountain cam. Cool!

aww, i see a monkey plucking bugs outta another monkey and eating it.
I find the sounds very calming. I leave it on as background when I'm doing something else.
Wow....a downpour there right now.....no animals at the moment though.
45 seconds is the best I can get out of that the last few days, then it starts with the buffering. *cry*

Their server is probably being hammered flat by popularity. Plus, it is Africa, I'd guess their connectivity might be on the spotty side to begin with.
Ah crap. You know my what my attention span is like........
When I checked a while ago the site was down due to a severe thunderstorm. This morning between 5 and 7 was awesome with all the different animals. But it's after 10 P.M. there now, so there wouldn't be much activity.
Glad you can view that, kitten. So far.... no such luck with me. Damn site is too busy.
I got through to Africacam., but that's when I found out the site was down for the time being.
Kitten, where are you finding info on why the cam is down? It opens in Windows Media Player for me, so of course there is nothing but connected or not connected.
It was around ten this morning that they posted it, and after that I've been getting the same thing you are.
Last time I saw it a bunch of cattle looking animals were drinking water. Pretty cool.
Have you tried to get it today? First thing this morning around 6 there were warthogs, and 3 giraffes and afterward those cattle-like creatures arrived. It was so interesting that I hated to leave for work.
Hi Sportsdude
I've seen zebras, monkeys, wildebeests, an elephant, some kudus (or some kind of African antelope-ish animal) and some wild boars (?)
The first time there is a scuffle of any kind, I'll be done.
I read somewhere that the animals won't attack each other at a waterhole. I've noticed that each group comes singly, and there were some smaller deer-like creatures at the water when they saw three elephants approaching. They left immediately, and returned later.
Cool ! I wondered when I saw the elephant, why it was alone. Is this normal?
I think so. I thought that they always travel in groups, but if it was alone it might have lingered after the others were out of camera range. I saw that with a zebra the other night. The others had wandered back while she was still by the water, and then she stopped to graze.
The animals won't attack one another because they understand the mutual need for water.... at least in most cases. I think I saw that on the Discovery channel or something like that. But don't tell that to the crocodiles.
10.54am and loud noises of 'frogs'(?????)
Crickets?
.
FINALLY!!! I see a bird and the sound is back. Check it again, P.C.
OMG....it's an owl.
Yay! It's back!!
Crickets?!?!? Sound like that? Like deep throat croaking... doubt they're crickets.
1.32pm. Site down. FRACKEN ANNOYING.
On another note, I gotta love PC's icon:
[/DIV][/DIV]
There was some kind of cat-like critter taking a snooze in the grass. They were zooming in on it and it was just relaxing in the sunlight, happy as it could be. I thought it was dead at first but once in a while the tail would was and then it was looking around seeing what was up.
I thought it was dead at first but once in a while the tail would was and then it was looking around seeing what was up.
lol.....sweetyyyyyyyy. You sound like you're still a little rattled. OK.....deeeeep breath ?....hold......exhale...... .. . . . . . . .
The camera is up again, but there is nothing happening at the moment. Maybe because it's still night there. There are some really strange animal calls on there, though. Sometimes it sounds like something is shouting. I wonder what animal makes that sound.
I just saw a couple rabbits or something. Are we sure this cam isn't set up at the Aldergrove game farm? Do they have rabbits in Africa? (OK....my ignorance is showing)
I think they have rabbits everywhere. They are low on the food chain so they have to breed rapidly to keep up with the predators. They could hold lessons to kids about multiplication, as in 1+1=25.
The sun is coming up. Maybe we'll see some activity now.
It's peculiar that there always seems to be someone manning the cam at all times. Somebody has to pan in and refocus. I wondered about a motion detector triggering this, but quickly dismissed the idea.
At first I thought the same thing, that it was automated. But now I suspect that the person designated to watch the camera sometimes falls asleep on the job and doesn't refocus when necessary.
It just snapped into the best focus ever.
Agreed. Love the sound of birds.
The other night, the camera zoomed in on one lonely bird flapping away in the water.
I saw that too, Lise. What a beautiful picture! How are your babes? And with your busy life, how the heck do you find time to get on here????
kitten wrote:

Both Lise Jr.s are fine, thanks for asking. Baby just turned one month old today. Where does time go?
I have time right now because my parents are here. They're awesome but they'll go home next week which means I probably won't have as much time as I did these couple of weeks.
And I'm so addicted to this darn channel, it's hard to switch off. *sniff*
Maybe the bird noises might put the kids to sleep. You know like a sleep machine. lol.
You have to organize them. Tell them that they have to sleep when you are on DS! I'm sure they'll listen. LOL It wouldn't be the same without you teasing the men here. You've got what it takes!!! So glad the babies are fine!
Now I hear those deep croaking sounds. It has to be frogs, but they must be huge to produce a sound like that! I thought before that you were talking about that light chirping that seems to go on all night in the background, Lise.
11.02am. The same loud croaking sound. THAT I can't stand.
I agree. It's a horrible noise. It seems to have stopped now, though.
So this cam IS in a game reserve. It is the Nkorho Pan, a natural water hole in the prestigious Sabi Sand Private game reserve.

Wow. That's a game reserve?!?!?!? What a beautiful place. *sob* I wanna go, I wanna go, I wanna go......
It IS pretty beautiful, but quite different from the vision I had of some dedicated soul out in the middle of the African plainsm tirelessly filming and focussingm filming and focussing....lol
What a romantic vision, P.C.!! A few minutes ago I saw orangutans at the waterhole. They really make weird noises.
LOL. Game reserves are big businesses in Africa.
So....this is totally off topic, but what's with the 'm's in my last post. I'm pretty certain I didn't type 'm's after every word.....lol
Maybe it was a nervous twitch. LOL!!!
BIG screen today.
Gotta fly....running late. m *heehee*
I have found another live cam in Botswana through National Geographic. The address is [A href="http://www9.nationalgeographic.com"]http://www9.nationalgeographic.com[/A] and the place is named Pete's Pond. There is also a description of all the creatures in the area, with pictures. A very interesting site. I mis-identified the primates I saw last night. They were baboons, not orangutans.
I clicked on your link and watched the bedbug video instead.
You're so mean, kitten. (just kidding)
Fascinating though. [A href="http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/2006/10/061019-bedbugs-video.html"]http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/2006/10/061019-bedbugs-video.html[/A]
Bedbugs?!! I was watching a live cam in Botswana until it got too dark there The quality isn't as good as the other cam.
Yeah, kinda creepy the story about bedbugs. I know they exists... but do I really wanna know that they reside in hotel beds.....?
I don't think I would want to stay in a hotel room. I read that quite a few hotels in Nevada had them recently. Kind of a plague.
Gross. I don't even wanna think about them. I've been in motels where the beds were, shall we say, questionable. I just tossed my sleeping bag on them and try not to think about it.
If they are already infested, you would be transferring them to your sleeping bag. Not a nice thought.
Howqever, it would always be a useful accessory to lend to people you didn't like.
True. Someone like curses, maybe. (http://discoverseattle.net/forums/richedit/smileys/Happy/12.gif) On second thought, he might enjoy the local bedbugs at DV more........
There is a fair-sized herd of water buffalo at the hole right now.
Thanks Kitten
I've had it turned on for background noise, so when I heard the splashing I checked it out. You're welcome.
Right on cue. As soon as I bring it up.....they all turned and walked away....(like would insult their size or something *snicker*)
They were there yesterday and just laid around chewing their cud for what seemed like hours.
The zebras have taken over now. What a strange voice they have.
Now they've been despersed by another group.
The buffalo came back, and not many animals will argue with them.

Go to search on National Geographic and type in WildCam Africa. That should bring it in. Or try Pete's Pond Botswana. Good luck.
Thanks, kitten. Will do.
Can't sleep. It's 2.46am. Where the hell are the animals? Why do I always miss them?????
ah poor lise.
10.55pm. FINALLY. A fracken animal comes drinking.
OK, now it's a whole herd. What are they? Looks like... I wanna say buffalo but they're not. Two pointy horns, long shaggy beards, long tails....
And zebras!! YAY!!!
Those are water buffaloes.
I saw them too. They are blue wildebeests. Water buffalo have curving horns. The wildebeests have the pointed horns.
Wildebeast, eh? They sure grunt a lot.......................... wish the webcam came with a smell-o-version, I would like to smell animals.
Boy! Did I just say that out aloud?!?!??!
I'm glad they don't after watching one particular close-up on a water buffalo!
OMG.....the water hole is FULL I mean FULL of water buffalo
Raging Poodle !!!!! Take a picture....QUICK !!!!! Mine doesn't work.
9.05pm - Some really pretty birds. Wish we had pretty birds here in Vancouver.
Nice. Camera zooming in on a couple of gazelles (???) and two baboons.... WTH are they doing??!??! Argh... monkey sniffing butts??????? (http://discoverseattle.net/forums/richedit/smileys/Happy/1.gif)
OK, baboons losing interest.

should we 'unpin' this thread??
Nyah. I don't think I visit the place any more. Not since kitten.... waaaaah.......
Maybe TB can take it off its 'pinning' status unless anyone else objects?
Currently there're too many frivilous stickies. They should all be let go. Only the admin thread about forum tips and info should remain.
while i think this thread was a load of malarky along with the pictures only thread, i think the lunch thread should stay
*sniff*

I however will not 'visit' Africa every morning.. i spend six months or more a year there as it is, too much for me now.
I'm watching it snow on grouse mountain. lol
They should switch it over to Vancouver so you could watch it pouring out.
Why would I want to see rain? Its raining here all day as well. lol
Not raining here, we had it yesterday evening and last night instead.
People who visit the site regularly already know the URL or have it bookmarked, so they don't need this thread.
Worse comes to worse, they can always search for it.
If anyone wants to contribute to any of the currently sticky threads, they can just bring them up.
There's no good reason for them to remain pinned. They're no important than other threads.
Add 3-4 more frivilous stickies like those and we'll be scrolling down 2-3 times to get to other threads, just like it was with the lunch and z fx threads. [A onclick="addImg('icon/icon_smile_shy.gif')" href="jvascript:void(0)"](http://www.discovervancouver.com/forum/icon_smile_shy.gif)[/A]

DV has sticky threads?
I never remember seeing that, I remember seeing half a page of the Lunch, or Dragons (whatever it was) thread

Nuff said.

Yeah I was there Lise.. I remember a few of you regulars from there. I found DV when I was google searching for a place to buy Lucozade in Vancouver to take back to China for a guy from the UK, Lucozade seems to be a very popular energy drink over there. After that I kept posting to it for about a year, from the hotel in China even. I posted to the lunch and dragon threads numerously, but no one ever really talked to me, wah!
I gave up on DV after a while cause the trolls took it over and it seemed to self destruct, so I went elsewhere. On a whim I went back there a while ago and saw something about the initials DV adn DS in a thread, google search and walla! here I be.
I remember the lunch thread, the dragon thread (pictures really) and there was one more that was deleted for some reason.
I always wondered what happened to some of the regulars like:
jeffbc,kits,jing jing, orca etc
No one answered you? Oh my. Sorry about that. Wonder what pseudo names you were under? No, sssh. Don't tell.
Jing Jing - don't know. I totally miss her. I miss her wit, her sexiness and everything.
Orca - still lurks around DV although not as often. She comes here from time to time.
tenkani - o great sensai visits but his voice is silent these days. I'm hopeful he'll make an appearance soon.
I don't know what happened to the others. DV is totally going down the toilet. Nothing good there these days. You only need one idiot to bring a good thread down.
What happened to Nanaimo Girl and Dashphire?
Maybe they got bored and left?
Don't know those names, Gophie.
They were on DV about a year ago
I remember the second name Gopher, not the other one.
Since I posted I have noticed a few old names on DV. Didnt realize raerae was still around.
Oh yes. She's still around. Good old raerae.
Gophie.....did you have the same handle on DV ? I don't recall a Gophie.
No, I used something more imaginative - however I wasn't there very long.
Gee! Can't imagine why!
Pretty racist threads all over DV. Why am I not surprised? Used to be a place where you have have at least a decent debate but that's all flushed down the loo. Good threads seem to go to waste faster than you can say 'racism'.
I agree, I stopped trying to argue because some took it too far, always happens in unregulated annonymous exchanges. Be accountable for your actions...
I however think some of the debate (i dont neccesarily agree with it) is called racist when it is not. To me the pendulum on what people call racism and what is not is too far to one side. But then again, Im told Im not privy to the big picture so who am I to judge?
Ok, thats seems to be what starts a debate on DV so Im going to be quiet now and go for a coffee.
I've just seen a shooting star!
Well, good wishes to ya, Gophie.
I hope it wasn't in your living room.
I actually looked at DV for about 2 minutes today. That place is a nightmare now.
Do you mean to say it's actually deteriorated from what it was? How on earth is that possible?
I think it improved a tad: They were always talking about shit stains before.
Now they're talking about cum stains.

Yeah, lol, thats a massive improvement.
Baby steps. Sometimes improvement is subtle.
I hear Lise and Purelife are the masked ringleaders behind everything that ails DV.
Whodathunkit??!?!?!
Good idea to have a sticky to talk about DV, so that people won't have to create new threads all the time...
