It's weird to be raising money for mammograms...in the U.S.
This is Canada...we don't actually PAY for medical exams.

Slightly offtopic: do you guys get your employers to pay MSP premiums?

Our benefits already include it.  But if it didn't, I'm sure HR would consider it since they want to be competitive in company benefits.

I was talking about school paying for it or something. Actually, I think I don't technically have to pay for it as I make zero at the moment (well not really made 20 bucks by selling stuff), but I do anyway.

This province is obsessed with breast cancer.  It seems the media, and the brain-washed masses, have forgotten that heart disease kills 25% more women than all types of cancer!

Ah, So if it important to you, perhaps start a positive thread that would raise awareness on womens  heart disease. Belittling one group does not advance the position of another.  [P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt"]

Perhaps heart disease is taken more seriously than breast cancer and not lacking in charitable donations ?  Also, this is not for this province.  This is for women who actually don't get tested for breast cancer because they can't afford it.

Truth be known, Michel, I think the province is obsessed with charities.  Don't get me wrong, I'm all for doing whatever I can whenever I can....but all these 'grow a mustache', shave you're head', 'walk here', 'run there', leave me wondering what they really do.  I try to think of actions to take that will directly help in some way....and walking around bald doesn't seem to fill the bill.

I also have to admit, that I am tired of every checkout, in every story asking me to donate a loonie to this that and the other thing.  I now find myself explaining the differences between 'donating' and begging.

Having said that, this is a pretty unobtrusive way of generating funds (although I have no idea how that works).   But if it works...I'm in.

Where in my previous post was there belittling???  Crazy post, Ah, So, annoymous troll!

Starting about February each year the ads start about the weekend to end breast cancer, and they continue for six months until the walk.  The movement should just be about cancer, not one specific type.  For example, cops for cancer isn't specific.

THERE'S NO NEED TO SEGREGATE CANCERS!

When we watch TV we are trying to escape.  Not bloody likely with these ads on all the time.

I think TV and radio are in big trouble.  How long until commercial free satellite radio becomes mainstream?  And the amount that radio charges for advertising is crazy.  Who's listening to CKNW and NEWS 1130?  Cab drivers and shut ins?

On the issue of charities, enough already.  And WAYNE COX, stop suggesting that buying a lottery ticket is going to help people's financial situation - there's only one winner, and the rest are losers paying into the scheme that makes the one winner, win!

United Way wastes 60% of revenue on admin.  Don't think registered chartities are good.  If you want to be charitable, go feed a homeless person or donate to organizations that help people with disabilities.  But research their financials.

Stretch....the Breast Cancer thread was stickied because there is a link in it to acquire hits that are a count towards a form of donation....certainly not because it is any more  tragic than prostate cancer.  I wonder how one would go about getting the same type of thing going for that ?

Probably the best thing one can do is talk with people you know about screening for both breast and prostate cancer.  Nothing spreads like word of mouth.

  Mamogramm starting at 40

PSA and DRE starting at 45

 A little update.....

Your clicks count! Last year, visitor clicks funded 3,315 mammograms (down from 2007, which was 3,801). Purchases at [A href="http://shop.thebreastcancersite.com/store/site.do?siteId=224&origin=ctg_bcs_dailyresults" target=new]The Breast Cancer Site store[/A] funded an additional 4,262 mammograms for women in need (up from 3,349 in 2007).

Let's get those click numbers back up in 2009! Please click every day and [A href="http://www.thebreastcancersite.com/clickToGive/sendecard.faces?siteId=2&link=ctg_bcs_sendecard_from_dailyresults_maincolumn"]tell others[/A] about The Breast Cancer Site!

Since The Breast Cancer Site began in 2000, together we have funded free mammograms for more than 11,000 women in need (and more than 16,000 if you include mammograms funded by purchases at the store)! Learn more about the lives you've touched by moving your mouse pointer over locations on the map.
