Kind makes you think twice about acquiring another 'dependant', (even if they could change diapers).

This has got to be a joke....right?

   LEAD STORY

[!--END_TITLE--][!--BEGIN_TEXT--]Eventually, robots will have to be given legal rights (and accept certain responsibilities) if advances in artificial intelligence (AI) continue to create sensitive quasi-organisms, according to a paper solicited for Sir David King, the UK's chief scientist. According to one AI researcher, "If (robots are) granted full rights, states will be obligated to provide full social benefits to them including income support, housing and possibly robo-healthcare to fix the machines over time." A December Financial Times report on the paper noted that robots might also have to pay taxes and be available for military service. Discover Seattle! / Antique Toys
Jan 07 07 01:42
Quite some time ago, there was somebody here on DS that had mentioned that he (or maybe his brother ?) bought and sold or collected Antique Toys.  (Could that have been any more vague ?)

Anyways, if this person is still about, they will probably know what I'm talking about.

I would like to contact this person to find out some info (or where to look for info) on some antique toys, that I've had no luck with on Google. One is an old fighter plane.....one solid piece made out of something like the material an old telephone might have been made out of.  It's very heavy and kind of modernly stylized for the era I think it may have come from.  It was my grandfathers and I'd like to find out more about it.

I've noticed on the CTV News, there is a reporter named St. John Alexander (I think it's Alexander)

Anyway, they call him Sin Jin (that's my interpretation of how you'd spell it).  I thought it was curious, but interesting (ish)

But tonight there was a news story about some fellow also named St. John Something, and they pronounced HIS name Sin Jin also.

Can anyone shed some light on this ?  This is the only place I have ever heard this version of the name St. John, and it's got me curious now.

I was driving home the other day, and there was a phone in radio 'contest' that was called 'Impossible Questions'.  (Not a BIG, win thousands of dollars, contest)

Anyway, I expected after a few GOOD answers, all of which were wrong, that the REAL answer was going to be a groaner, but it was actually pretty good.

So......here's the question.   What do most people ASK for, yet most people choose not to eat it ?

I'm sitting here waiting for cable guy to show up.  They WERE polite enough to call this morning to 'narrow down' expect time of arrival, (between 11 and 3 ????  *could we put it a little MORE into the middle of the whole day?)

Anyways, we've had this thing for just under a year, and we've had it replaced twice already, and now he's going to replace it again!

Has anyone else have the same problems???

Is anybody else baffled over the amount of contaminated foods recently ?

After Taco Bell traced a growing E. coli outbreak to green onions at its restaurants yesterday morning, government investigators began an intensive search to identify the source of the contamination. The total number of cases in three Northeastern states swelled to 99, implicating several additional restaurants and a second food distributor, who said the onions came from a California farm.

Taco Bell officials said early yesterday that their preliminary tests had traced the E. coli to three samples of green onions, which the restaurant chain sprinkles on many of its menu items. In what the company president, Greg Creed, called "an abundance of caution," Taco Bell removed green onions from its 5,800 outlets across the United States.

Feed the birds

Winter, of course, is the most important time to feed garden birds. Ice and snow cut many birds off from their food supply. In severe weather the short daylight hours mean less time to forage and small birds are particularly vulnerable to starvation and heat loss. Be sure to continue regular feeding throughout the winter.
[TBODY]
[BIG]Speeding couple given toy[/BIG]
[/TBODY]
A German couple caught speeding on their way to give birth were given a toy for their new baby instead of a ticket.

Barbara and Johann Meyer, from Wachtberg, initially received a ticket after a speed camera photographed them breaking the speed limit.

But when they told authorities that they were on their way to hospital where Barbara gave birth to their first baby, police cancelled the fine.

Instead, they sent them a toy police officer in uniform - holding a speed camera.

Police also recommended the Meyers put the original speeding camera image into their son's first photo album.

Discover Seattle! / Losing Power
Nov 15 06 09:52
Anyone else lose their power today ????

This was kind of a cool day for me.

I was trying to purchase an item on ebay (my first ever).  It was an item that was really important to me on ebay.uk.  So being a newbie at this, I placed a bid on this thing that had only one other bid......hit post bid, and it came back that I was 'out bid'....so I did it again....and again......and AGAIN.

So I started to wonder if I was bidding against myself....lol. (noob)

Anyway, I go to work.....power goes out and I came back home.  I realized, that I only had another couple hours to get a bid in, but my power never came back on (til half an hour ago).

So hubby comes home....asks how long the power's been out....told him.....he says, so you haven't heard the good news then.  HE PLACED A BID FROM WHERE HE WORKED AND GOT IT.

  I'm so excited.....yeayyyy

Anyone plan on a wedding in July of 2007.  Apparently it's already near impossible to book a hall for July the 7th.  (an has been for months)  There are actully people who booked reception halls on 'spec'......as in, they aren't even engaged yet.  And some aren't even in a solid dating mode yet.....lol

It is supposed to be a blessed lucky day to wed on 07/07/07

I don't even know how to ask this question, but I'll give it a try.

Sometime ago, I was looking for information on how to retrieve data from some disks I had stored a LOT of stuff on.

Hubby took about 10 of them to their techies at work, and they salvaged some of the stuff but not all.  It was rather pricey.

(OK....now here's the stupid question part)

Is there some kind of program or some way to do this myself ?

I have about another couple dozen. Yipes $$$$

Discover Seattle! / HORRORS !!!!!

How many of you have seen some of the OLD Horror Classics ?

I was channel surfing a couple nights ago, and saw an OLD movie from WAYYYYYY back.

They sure hold their own, against the newer horror flicks.  It was Hush Hush Sweet Charlotte.

I'm not a big horror movie fan, but some of those oldies seem to 'by-pass' a lot of the splatter scenes, with 'psychological horror'.  Although they were pretty gorry (sp?) for their time, much of the terror was left to your imagination.....or implied in a less gorry way.  (like Psycho)

With Hallowe'en approaching, it started me thinking about some of those scary movies.  I STILL can't watch the newer fright movies, but remember some of the old 'goodies'.

Hush Hush Sweet Charlotte (Betty Davis)

Whatever Happened to Baby Jane (another Betty Davis)

The Birds (Alfred Hitchcock)

Anyone have any others to add ???

Is there anyone out there, that has lived their life, with no regrets.

I was talking to someone the other day, who said he had absolutely no regrets.  I was  fascinated with his story.

It wasn't even like he had lived his life without ever having done things to be regretful of, but it was his ability to put it aside, chalk it up to a learning experience and move on.

I have many.  I would love to learn how to do this.
