High end math takes so much focus that it takes over one's life and leaves little room for "normal life".
There's lotsa nutty mathematicians. I think it was Pythagoras that was deathly afraid of beans.

Belle and Sebastian are particularly sticky for me right now. "Expectations"  and "Step Into My Office, Baby" are both quite catchy.
I've just discovered buried on my iPod a cover of Aphex Twin's "Film" by a jazz trio called The Bad Plus. Soooper sticky-in-your-head.

I love the line that "Alex would be better off just accepting my teachings without resistance." ... yup, having false information is good fer ye.
Reminds me of the time my 8-year old son had to correct his feather-brain teacher about the fact that 1 is not actually a prime number. After my wife had to call her on it, she simply told the class that 1 is a "special prime" (a classification that no mathematician has seen fit to introduce in the last thousand years), and then didn't mention prime numbers (much less math) for the rest of the year.

I totally love TPB!!!! It's not on in the states that I know of (it was on BBCAmerica for a spell when I first caught it). The movie shows no signs of being released here either.  I've been making converts though.  Even though it's lowbrow, it still goes straight over most Amurricuns' heads. Too subtle and nuanced.

lol! We have a cockatiel like the one in the picture and I'm trying to get her to sit on our dog, but the bird is having none of it! And our (outside) cat would just devour it.
The picture takers obviously have The World's Most Patient and Mellow Cat.

ROFL! You sound like Mr. Lahey on the Trailer Park Boys! That must be why they chose the zippy, fresh brown color for their lil' turd.
Why anyone would choose this thing over an iPod is beyond me. 'taint broke, don't try fixin' it.
That whole track sharing thing sounds like a good idea but the three day expiration would just piss me off. I'll stick to burning a CD for my chums if they want a song.

No fair you get snow. Oregon is the same same same. A sky that looks like a sink full of dirty dish water, and cold and rain and wind.
Oooh, I just checked the WeatherPest and we might get snow tomorrow or Tuesday. Should make our tree removal interesting.

If that-guy-who-played-Cosmo was a real professional he would've put those disrespectful hecklers in their place right away, for they are obviously the ones that started it. But he lost his shit because he can't hack it.
If you defend that kind of language you look as bad as the person doing it.

Word is Sam Raimi, a fine director to be sure. But no one will have the touch that Jackson has. The way he integrated and adapted the books into a movie format was perfect. And his all-around attention to detail will also be hard to match. And with Weta not doing the FX it's doomed to mediocrity.
It'll be the same effect as X-Men III. The first two under Brian Singer were art, the last one under...uh...that guy was perfectly nice and all but completely forgettable.
*sob* I so wanted to see Smaug done right.
