Ugh, I hate snow. And it's coming down pretty thick right now.
Well, I just made an attempt to get into work. Quarter of the way there, turned around and came home. There's only about 6 inches out there, but it's coming down lak hek. There are 3 big hills between me and work.....so I'm thinking.....I can make it UP this hill.......
My job is at the bottom of a steep hill on a small side street. It was plowed on the hill, but I hate to think of what it will be like now. Oh well, last shift for a couple of days. *wiping sweat off brow*
Snow is fun, I just watch all the funny dumb vancouver drivers. My trek to where i go everyday isnt too bad, but the others on the road will the challenge.
Nice new statement, Russ. You do find the goodies!
I was watching the idiots coming of the Barnet Highway this morning, and you would think they were at the Indy 500. I can't believe so many morons can qualify for licences. I try to drive defensively because people just don't use common sense in bad weather.
Exactly. Good reason not to head to work.
Ahhh....power again. Power went out this morn...came back on for about 15 minutes then went out again. Now we're back in business. I can see the limb that's causing the problem. It's just near the bend in the lower part of my driveway. It's SO heavy, it's almost touching the ground, and the power line is underneath it.
Maybe that'll inspire them to come plough our road.
I got out and cleaned off the roof over the hot tub. It was kinda cool, because in was solid with cedar stuff from the trees, so it was blocking a lot of light. But with the snow, I just rigged up a long handled scraper, and it took the snow AND the cedar stuff. The snow also made a good 'scratchless' scrubber. The roof is plexi-glass, and it has a layer of pollen and whatever else left over from summer. I feel a little bit full of myself.....rofl
Thank goodness buses are still running, slowly, but running. I was driving and that was somewhat ok. There was one turn where it was pretty slippery. I just took it extremely slow. It doesn't look like it's going to stop soon... :P Bleh!
Be careful out there. It can get dangerous.

Its a winter wonderland!
That's nothing. You should see where we live. Snow up to my knees.
up to your knees? Wow if Snow ever got up to my knees then it would be a blizzard and a national disaster. hehehe

yeah, pretty deep. havent seen it like this since i was young
most snow I've walked through was up to my mid ankles. That was about 6 years ago when a foot was dumped on us.
I just took a look outside and decided I'm not going ANYWHERE tomorrow! I still think snow belongs only on mountains.
oh ive been in more and alot colder -27 deg celcius is the most when i was northern alberta. on vacation at the time if you can believe it.
i was refering to vancouver though, as in the most snow ive seen there since i was young
I left the Maritimes to get away from this sort of weather. Now they are having reasonable temperatures (15C the other day!).
Yeah it snowed 2ft one year the year I happend to have major surgery and was in the hosptial for 2 weeks brilliant timing.
But at least you didn't have to shovel it that year.
lol yeah I couldn't do anything really since my chest was split open lol. But idiot me just had to go down the hill just once a couple of weeks after. I hit the house. 15k dollar surgery almost went down the drain because stupid me just had to go down the hill.
Lise wrote:

Ack, that's way too much snow!!! I used to live on the East coast (Washington DC, Maryland, Virginia...it snowed every frickin year and I hated it....and it was one of the reasons I moved away from the the East coast.
Hate snow? Bring it on I say.
Vancouver isn't as cold as Alberta. Thank goodness. Last night, I had to wait 20minutes before my skytrain arrived. This morning, it was PACKED at all stations. It was so busy. Skytrains were running slowly. My trip took an extra 15 minutes, which isn't bad at all.
I guess you could be thankful they running at all. Plus you don't have to drive in the mess so thats good. When it snows here all you can do is drive. Its dangerous.
I'm not complaining at all. I heard that we're expecting a heavy snowfall later on.
I wanted to close my window that was opened about 4 inches but it was stuck. Oh-oh, don't know how to close this.
People are idiots. I laughed the whole time I took my gf to work, cant get mad. People were taking minivans or attempting to anyhow up or down sidestreets that had hills on them off of major arteries so you could watch and laugh. They would get stuck, start to slide, idiots would give it lots of gas, they would slide sideways into the curb or other cars, etc. I would let them get stuck then just drive by and give them the thumbs up.
The best this morning was one lady. I was stopped at a red light for at least 20s. This lady in a minivan was going too fast for her to handle and at the last minute slammed on her brakes. She started sliding, so she SCREAMED and TOOK HER HANDS OFF THE STEERING WHEEL AND COVERED HER EYES and just let her minivan go! It was scary to watch her as she slid into the intersection, but I couldnt help but laugh at her. I was glad she didnt hit another car or a pedestrian (I looked and didnt see a child seat or a kid in her mvan), wasnt worried about her, darwin would take care of that soon enough obviously!
Take it slow, and if you have a small front wheel drive car, take major streets, dont attempt hills on sidestreets! Stay in the right lane too, if bigger heavier vehicles want then, they can get around.
get some de icer purelife, or get some hot water, poor it around your window and close it quickly. the water will refreeze but at least your window is closed.
actually salt isn't the best. Sand is. Don't know if you can steal some sand from a near by beach (probably illegal lol just go to a hardware store and buy some for your side walks)

-5 in Vancouver feels almost like -20 in Alberta. Its the moisture in the Vancouver air that makes it feel cold.
Here is the biggest difference between,
In Alberta, no snow is going to keep people from work or going to the ski hill.
In Vancouver, 5 mm. of snow, and the city is shuts down for two days.
Mind you, rain won't stop a Vancouverite from golfing, where in Alberta, the rain will postpone a golf game.
You are right SD. I agree sand is the best, but Im the lazy type. I bought ten bags of salt after dropping my gf off on the way home, and I heavily salted my front steps and sidewalks.. dont want a lawsuit.
I went to two places, and bought the last ten bags at teh second place. They always seem to run out of salt, you think they would learn to buy more in advance.

Agree! I remembered last year where it didn't snow as heavily as yesterday and courier companies were having problems. Oh well, I think that Vancouverites have grown too comfortable or something.
I guess that I didn't feel cold because I really bundled up. :)
WOW! What a story, Russ. That lady must've been praying so that she wouldn't get killed! OMG! I was slipping when my car was turning. Thank goodness that nobody was around that morning.
EDIT: I'll do the hot water later on. I hope it works.
Yeah, but you were careful purelife. You didnt put your foot to the floor on the skinny pedal when you got stuck or started sliding. You obviously went slower so you were comfortable with conditions. I would suggest putting some more weight in the car, even if you are front wheel drive, more weight will help.
I couldnt believe it either, along joyce street, people were walking ON THE STREET to avoid the snow on teh sidewalks. Im mean, if people slide or cant stop when they see some fool on the road they will get hit! I stopped and mentioned that to some lady, then felt sorry for her and picked her up and dropped her off at the skytrain station which is where she was headed. She tried to give me 5 bucks for driving her 6 blocks! I told her to buy herself a cup of coffee.
That was a very nice deed, Russ. We need more people like you. I've already blessed you, but will bless you more in an hours time. (http://discoverseattle.net/forums/richedit/smileys/Happy/11.gif)
Yeah, crazy people walking on the streets. I don't want to imagine.
Got any odd weird scary snow driving moments?
I've got a ton.
Basketball game 4 years ago I was driving home from the hs basketball game I was in charge of (FBLA day at the school I was in charge of finances and I'm bad with money lol) anyway coming home my car started to fish tail because of the ice going down the highway at super slow speeds some guy in front of me did a complete 360 in his car.
Drove around after a blizzard once got the van stuck in a snow drift in the middle of nowhere down on the farm. brilliant. Family couldn't get a hold of me and they sent out a search party.
Junior year in high school. Got cocky and started doing power slides in the snow in the school parking lot. Car was going straight for this girls Camaro, lol, when the car finally came to a stop it was 1 inch from hitting her car. She was freaking out. I was laughing hysterically.
Wow, thanks purelife! 'bless' for you too, and SD.
I didnt think I did anything extra special though. I shoveled some elderly neighbors walks as well when I was doing mine AGAIN. Only took a few extra minutes. Im sure someone will do it for me when Im older.
Yeah I do that all the time helping people seems to become second nature to me. When I was younger and at my old nieghbourhood, the nieghbours are in there 80's and 90's I shoveled there sidewalks, porches, and driveways didn't ask for money either gave it back when they gave me something. Did the entire nieghbourhood block.
You guys are big strong men with big hearts. PURESWEETNESS!

make sure not to put hot water onto the window glass......likely to crack if you do
It takes a village it takes a village. hehe
One year I when I was around 14 a big storm came through and there was this guy going around saying he'd do everyone's drive way with an ATV but he charged $$$$. I dueled him for my services i did the homes near me for free wanted to do more homes but since I didn't know those nieghbours my parents wouldn't let me go door to door.
Just me and a shovel worked up a sweat though. Learned how not to throw your back out though lol.

Good thinking. I havent thought of that. I normally just use hotwater from the taps and pour onto the jointing where its frozen, so its not really HOT water. But if its cold enough it might crack. Ill remember that, thanks 49er. Pretty simple concept if you think about it, lol.
don't put water on things today tonight its suppose to get below freezing apparently.
Its already freezing. If shes at work and just wants to get her window closed as it is already frozen, this is one of the things she could do. Simple and easy.
I do this when my window freezes in open or close position.
Ok, Im off to install a new programable thermostat. I can then have the heat come on when Im up, off when I away, on when im home then off when im asleep. Most places have these now, but im in an older house, lol.
I don't think she has to worry about closing a window at work.
Wow, Russ! What a story indeed!!! Damn. It just boggers the mind to see ppl who can't drive attempt to drive on the snow. They should leave their car behind and take public transport like normal ppl.
No accidents in sight as I was walking.
Crap I bought the wrong one, wont work on my system. Gotta go back to HomeDepot this afternoon. Ah well, more time to spend on DS.
Don't feel bad, dude. At least you're getting your fix here on DS.
I love Home Depot. Don't know why because I can't for the life of me how to fix things but there's something about the whole store that just makes my chi. I keep getting all these ideas and projects but they never materalized. Still, it's lovely to dream.
Morning Lise,
But I already opened the package and have my thermostat open off the wall wiht the wires hanging so I can see what they were. And the damned detailed instructions were on the INSIDE of the package and thats where it then told you that it wouldnt work with my setup and told me what one I had to buy lol. Ah well, I have a few friends that can probably use it.
Hoohaa? chi? who's that?
I love homedepot. My girlfriend has come to realize that she hates me going. I walk out with 200 bucks of stuff that I want to use for projects and end up putting them with the rest of the dusty stuff.
dreaming rules!
Although when it comes to house projects P.C. I think is the one to talk about.
Home Depot takes back mechandises that are opened from their boxes
UGH ITS FREAKING HOT OUTSIDE!!!
lower 20's!
hate it!
I was just going to say the same thing 49er. They have an excellent return policy....even if it's out of the package, or if it's past the 90 days, they will give you the amount on a HD card.

WHAT? They wouldn't return something I tried to return.
I am thinking you have a nicer smile P.C.! Probably a nicer charm too!(http://discoverseattle.net/forums/richedit/smileys/Teasing/4.gif)
Yeah, I know. You can spend literally $$$ on Home Depot stuff that never gets done. Well, you gotta have charm on charm when you return opened stuff. Plus it doesn't hurt to flash your boobs. (http://discoverseattle.net/forums/richedit/smileys/Happy/12.gif)
Chi meanings life energy. Or something like that.
chi means life energy that makes sense.
Chia pet.
It has life so much life it grows.
I wish I would have noticed this about the return policy before I went back, I would have tried. Oh well, got the new thermostat.. but I think Im going to just continue working on my truck instead of taking the 5 minutes to install it lol.
You wouldnt want to see me flash my boobs. Trust me.
Thanks for the help on the def Lise! 'bless'
WHAT? They wouldn't return something I tried to return.
Awww, I'm sorry Canadian. I wonder what the scoop with that is.
A couple months ago, I returned some marble tiles I put down last winter. I literally handed them a bag of gravel. I wouldn't have made the attempt to return them, but when I was buying some new tile for my hearth, the HD guys says.....'so what are you tiling now?' So I told him I had to re-do the hearth, because the 6 buck a tile stuff was history. He said, well bring it back. I was amazed, even after I explained that you wouldn't even be able to tell how many tiles I was returning unless you weighed it.
I heard that about HD PC, they are really good with that type of no questions asked policy. I didnt think they would return an electronic thing like that with a plastic wrapping that was cut.
London Drugs has the same sort of policy. You have within 14 days to test and use the product. If you're not satisfied, return for full money. I had to do this with a scanner that I brought. It didn't meet my needs, so returned it.
I find that their customer service is really really good. I'm happy.
Talk about returning stuff. My boss was in line at Cosco and this elderly couple returned a toaster that was 15 years old. Apparently it didn't work any more so they decided to returm it. To my boss' amazement, Cosco took it back at face value.
LOL!!!
I get a kick when I see someone wheeling in a giant TV to the return counter at Costco obviously after months of use because there would be a film of dust on the back of theTV
Costco's return policy is insane. I had never returned things in my life until the last few years. I finally got tired of things that I purchased lasting only weeks or months. I understand that we're living in a 'throw away' society, but it's gotten a little silly. Aside from being wasteful, it's just kinda annoying to end up purchasing another 'whatever' just because the first one doesn't do what it's supposed to do.
When you end up with 3 bread makers in your pantry, because you just can't throw them out 'because they're new'....then it's time to make the manufacturers (or the stores that purchase from them) responsible. I don't think we can accomplish this when we're so willing to take the hit.
P.C. wrote:
Costco's return policy is insane........................
someone told me that Costco do this because they could just return the mechandise back to the manufacturer.....because of volume they have such great purchasing power that they can bully manufacturers to accept their contract conditions.
ugh this heat wave is annoying. I'm sweating buckets. Outside in a shirt and shorts ugh its november almost december!
I heard the same thing 49er. I also heard there's an outlet somewhere that sells Costco's 'overflow'. Stuff with the packaging broken etc....quite the bargains I'm told. I'll have to ask where it is again.
Sportsdude, enjoy it, I believe you'll be hitting -7 by Thursday....lol
Tuesday 20C
Wednesday 21C
Thursday 6C
Can't wait til thursday this heat is making me sick.
If you find out PC where that is let the rest of us know, that would be an interesting place to visit.
It's c c c co oooll ddd.... this morning.
Does anyone here use any moisturizers to protect their face from the coldness?
Moisturizer miss purelife? What are those? Is that like putting water on your face? :)
Hiya goats. hee hee... I'm just wondering if we need to protect our face from the cold. Hmmm...perhaps it isn't necessary at all.
Well miss purelife,
I have heard of and used lip balm moisturizer in Africa, because of the heat. Actually, I have heard of it being used in the cold as well because some people's skin dries out and cracks.
Hows your day going? Get the window closed?
Wow, you've been to Africa? That must have been an amazing experience for you.
Yup, got the window closed after a few jiggles and yup, all good now. :)
My morning is going great so far. I couldn't ask for a more beautiful day.
How are you doing? How was breakfast?
I almost signed up for a habitat for humanity build in South Africa but I just don't have the time.
Moisturizer, purelife? I just use baby lotion. Amazing stuff.
scarf?
chap stick.
Baby lotion for your face? Really? Wow.... I actually have baby oil..was going to take a bath with that. (my b/f actually brought it, which was kinda funny coming from a GUY!) LOL!
my dumb uncle puts baby oil on his bald head when he goes out side to tan. Idiot is going to get skin cancer because baby oil is not what you want to put on your head when you go outside in the sun. lol
Yeah, no kidding, purelife. Baby lotion works fantastic because the lotion is made for babies. So no skin allergy, no harsh ingredients and it'll leave you smelling like a newborn.
Oh er.... did that come out right? smelling like a newborn
lol smelling like a new born would that mean you smell like poop?
No, no. Newborns have this wonderful aroma to them. It's unlike anything on this earth. Smells clean and wonderful.
Apart from the poopy diapers. (http://discoverseattle.net/forums/richedit/smileys/Happy/10.gif)
yup I know, been around my cousins kids. I shadow the little guy and he looks completely up and is like 'who is that tall guy?' lol. He just turned 1 a couple weeks ago.
Wooo hoo! Its raining! Next comes the sleet then hopefully the the snow! About time I say tried of the heat.
it's 47 degrees F here. My next door neighbor just began reroofing his house this morning. The roofer removed all the wood shakes and felt today. Its down to the plywood......I guess that it is not going to rain for the next two days
Yeah its around 40F here now two hours ago it was 70F lol. Glad winter is back I was going crazy with the hot weather + the heat still going on in my house thus making my room with the lights on at 90F.
Our snow is melting off the trees and falling in huge thumps on the roof. I suppose it will still be another couple days before we get out the driveway.
How's it looking over there.....are the streets cleared?
These are actual photos of snowflakes......amazing

My street? Nobody's gone by my city is more worried about the highway. (You'll understand what I'm talking about when I mean highway tomorrow) everything is closing down the malls, schools everything for tomorrow and tonight. Its weird it hasn't snowed but sleeted hard. We've got about an inch to 2 inches of sleet on the ground. Good thing I don't have to work tonight. phew.
LOL they finally came up my street! What took them so long. ugh. Judging by the plow We've had 2 to 3 inches of sleet.
haha they just went by again, where were they 5hrs ago?
