It is Vancouver, so I'm not really that surprised that a guy would have to go to such lengths...

Do you suppose he's looking to interview candidates because there's a specific image he wants the gf to have?  Maybe that's the reason he's willing to pay...the gf is arm candy at social functions all summer?
