Tenkani causing trouble on DV

I think this is a name-hijacker...but someone named Tenkani is running around on DV posting this barcode picture that just messes up the thread...

Ha ha, I saw those! That's not tenk - the real tenkani never capitalizes his name, this one does.

It's ∑∑D, who has also been posting (as well as posing) as "RCMP".

Quite a few people have complained about him, and his disrupting all the threads with the gigantic barcode image...

In a typical dysfunctional DV style, mods have responded by deleting the complaints themselves, but left ∑∑D and his posts alone - pretty much giving him the carte blanche to do whatever he pleases.

There's a rumor that ∑∑D himself might be a mod, but I'm very skeptical of this claim.

OK,  so  if  you  have  something  to  do  with  DV  (based  upon  your  ability  to  see  the  IP  addresses  there),  can  you  answer  the  question  as  to  why  the  thing  is  run  the  way  it  is?  And  why  the  idiot  known  as  EED  is  allowed  to  do  what  he  does?

If  you  have  responsibility,  but  don't  take responsibility, then who are you or anyone else to complain about the users and what they do there? (That's assuming that you do in fact have something to do with DV, which, if you don't, I apologise and retract.)

I've been playing around there for a couple of weeks now. I'm getting bored, and I've got a real world life that is no BS and needs me to stop messing about there, but I have to say that I have never seen the bizarro world tactics of the mods over there. Some forums let it all hang out, no holds barred, but DV seems to have some kind of dystopic system where technical annoyances are allowed, some racist posts are deleted, most are not, complaints are deleted and then the users are threatened about the content of their posts.

If anyone is bored and has some info and spare time, I would love to get a history of that forum and its reasons for why it is the way it is.

I give up trying to explain our duties as mods. You're not the only one who feels this way. Just ask Good Times, I'm sure he can fill you in on all the terrific details on why DV is such a spectacular ground for idiots.

Yes, yes... I know... there are some posts that I might have missed. I'm only human, trying to shift thru mud and decide what to keep and what not to keep constantly is a headache.

Yes, yes.... registration should happen to keep DV a better place but the powers that be are reluctant for the moment. Write your complain and ask them to step up the pace.

If you don't like DV or how it is run, it's simple. Don't come. If I sound harsh, I do apologize but I'm so tired of ppl like you bashing the way we moderate things. There are not as many mods on board as we like to and we can't patrol the site 24 hours.

I'm not so much complaining as inquiring. I've been moderating internet forums since 1994, and the one thing I understand is diversity of content and style. I've done boards that were so strict that every post was approved before being put up. I actually don't mind the way DV operates, and I'm responsible for some pretty nasty posts myself in the alter-egos I assume there. So I'm not coming down on you, though when I read back my post I can see why you might have read it that way. I guess I thought maybe you had complained about it at some point, but I guess I'm wrong.

I'd just like to know why things are done the way they are, I'm curious about the rationale, if there is any. I don't at all agree with Canada's laws on hate speech, and I find the recent buzz about the RCMP to be odd and legally suspect, but that's another debate.

You've said your piece and I accept that, but I would like to have my curiosity satisfied by someone about the "saga of DV".

How important is it for you to understand what's going on on DV? Will it make a difference in your life...? And how much time and energy are you prepared to invest into this pursuit of "DV enlightment"?

Lise is being half sarcastic, but she's also correct in saying that I'm one of the people who can tell what's up in that place...
