According to a memo being reported on by Information week, the US Department of Transportation has issued a [a href="http://www.informationweek.com/news/showArticle.jhtml?articleID=197700789"] moratorium on upgrading Microsoft products[/a]. Concerns over costs and compatability issues has lead the federal agency to prevent upgrades from XP to Vista, as well as to stop users from moving to IE 7 and Office 2007.

As the article says,'In a memo to his staff, DOT chief information officer Daniel Mintz says he has placed "an indefinite moratorium" on the upgrades as "there appears to be no compelling technical or business case for upgrading to these new Microsoft software products. Furthermore, there appears to be specific reasons not to upgrade."
The real trouble with reality is that there's no background music.

Oh...that tastes so sweet.

Microshaft, may you rot in the fiery bowels of hell.
For thou art with me; thy cream and thy sugar they comfort me
Thou preparest a carafe before me in the presence of Juan Valdez
Thou anointest my day with pep; my mug runneth over
Surely richness and taste shall follow me all the days of my life
And I will dwell in the house of coffee forever.

I have IE 7 and like it.

However I decided to try a demo of office 2007 a few days ago and when I attempted to install it, it crashed my computer.

I managed to get it running again and called microsoft.

Lady Rep:  'Oh really? It crashed? Why did it do that?'

Me:  How the f*ck do I know its your product. I got my computer running again and uninstalled 2007. Is there something I missed or what should I do?

Lady Rep: 'Sir, please dont use that language. I would recommend trying another one. Could you please send us details of your crash?'

Me: I installed office 2007 from your site. I put the access numbers in. The computer crashed.

Lady Rep: 'Ok. Fine then. Can you send a copy of your computers crash record?'

Me: Sure, so.. is there anything I can do?

Lady Rep: Try another type of office 2007. Theres a number of versions. Maybe that one didnt like your computer?

  Me: ~click~

Ug. That sounds very annoying     :(

I had one computer that installing Windows SP2 completely destroyed and I learned that "it just happens" to a certain percentage of machines on the market. When you "upgrade" it will ass shaft your installation of windows so hardcore that you have to re-install everything      >:(

The final straw, though, was when I was told I had re-installed my copy of Windows too often (I liked to build and re-build my system a lot back then) and would have to buy a new copy. WTF?? That was the last time I payed for Windows.

Yeah, on my old laptop when I installed SP2 it crashed for me as well.

I also reinstalled windows on my last laptop.. I uh, got some nasty viruses from some uh, questionable sites on the net and ended up having to wipe the computer.

I took the install for win XP I had bought for my old desktop and installed it onto my laptop cause Toshiba doesnt supply you with Win reinstall discs (wtf?).  I looked at the winXP decal on the laptop and put that in. Nothing. Tried it again, invalid numbers, what? So I called my buddies at microsuck.

Russ: Hi I had to wipe out my hardrive and reinstall WinXP on my hardrive. It wont accept the numbers. It tells me to call you for an access number, why do I need that? Its a registered computer.

Lady: Why did you wipe out your hardrive and reinstall windows?

Russ: Uh, not like its your business but I downloaded some stuff from some questionable sites.

Lady: You were downloading illegally sir?

Russ: No. Can I get the number please?

Lady: Well, ok then. But are you sure you arent installing an illegal copy onto another computer using the numbers from your other computer.

  Russ: Yes.

  ~crickets~

Lady: Well, if you are sure then...

Me: Give me the number for MY laptop wiht a REGISTERED number. Thanks

  Lady: ok sir... <number>.
