The place has turned into a mine field! Two separate hacks in one night. Sysadmin says the holes are closed. Yet you click on a link and you're trapped in yet another hack... Most of them are relatively "harmless" tricks, but nonetheless annoying. Windows that never close, or system prompts that regenerate as soon as you try to close them... The safest way to surf that place is with another browser, with all its scripting functions turned off. Don't go in without the appropriate armor - or you're gonna burn baby burn...  |

I keep telling them... the only fool-proof way to block exploits is to disallow ALL html, then selectively RE-allow non harmful tags. And even that approach isn't perfect. But for every harmful tag or piece of code that he blocks, three more alternatives present themselves...

There are hacks and there are hacks. The GNAA ones appear to beparticularly destructive for some people. One was a simple nuisancethat was easy enough to deal with if you have two hands, and anotherwas actually what you might call a "good" hack, killing off a nastythread with a simple redirect to a harmless site.
It is always a mine field, but the GNAA crap is like a napalm hit.
My coding skills are not up to the level where I can kill the GNAAhack. And I'm not so sure that the origin of that one isn't... well...let's just say that somebody is doing something to those pages who hasabilities beyond regular users.

For the first time in a long time I shielded myself behind a proxy and checked out what's going on... the landscape I saw wasn't pretty. Here's a snapshot LOL Just read the titles - DO NOT click on the links unless you want to test your PC's defenses, and you are SURE you can take some beating Another Saturday night on DV. You guys are giving real hackers a real bad name by calling the poster a "hacker."
It is not hacking to post a line or two of simple HTML into a forum where nobody has bothered to filter HTML.
It's even easier if you copied the code from somewhere else instead of making it yourself; if you trained it hard enough and long enough, a chimpanzee could do it.

A mod is there now, deleting posts and fixing others with the usual random method at DV. As I have said over there before in a rare mood when I was actually being serious, it's Sodom. Expect Sodom, prepare for Sodom, and you will never be thrown by what happens there.

I just can't believe the way the site admin runs things over at DV. Incredibly, the real hackers of the internet ( and replica watch spammers) haven't found them yet. I have an idea that if they did, the site admin would get off his shit and block HTML rather more quickly than he's doing right now.
The DV site admin is a joke, and the mods are his punchline. If I ran an online community like that, I'd be surprised if I had any members left at all (oh wait, he can't have members, because his forum doesn't support it ha-ha)

I enjoy the "welcome tohell"atmosphere myself. But you're probably right. Someone isgoing todo more than post script and HTML in the threads;eventuallysomeone with real hacking ability is going to take thewholething down.
I'm about done with my visit there. I have had great fun, but I do have a life, and it calls.
BTW, what the f*ck is wrong with your spacing? Never encountered that anywhere else in the world before.

Several of the posts above are attempts at inserting malicious code into this board. They didn't work, but they did give me some ideas for some additional keywords to block.  |
