Body Piercing: Extreme

I just received my association newsletter today and in it was an article on body piercing and how mainstreamed it has become. Imagine my shock when I actually read about uvula piercings or split tongue or even mandible (jaw) piercing. I can't imagine mutilating myself for the sake of 'fashion' or whatever (my only piercings are my ears).

So what do you guys think about body piercing? Sexy or no?

A uvula piercing is a [A title="Body piercing" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Body_piercing"]body piercing[/A] through the [A title=Uvula href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Uvula"]uvula[/A]. This is a rare piercing, and although the procedure is relatively simple, many piercers may refuse to perform it. The uvula is an extremely [A title=Vascular href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vascular"]vascular[/A] piece of tissue, and heals very rapidly. Uvula piercings may [A title="Piercing migration" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Piercing_migration"]reject[/A], leading to the [A title=Bisection href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bisection"]bisection[/A] of the uvula, which although unintentional, is harmless.
Pre-cut
[P align=justify]I had first heard of tongue splitting in a magazine. The procedure was performed by a girl who did it using the fishing line method. Then at a much later date, when I talked with [A href="http://iam.bmezine.com/?glider"]Shannon Larratt of BME[/A] over the phone, who explained how a Doctor Busino, an oral surgeon, performed the surgery using an argon laser. Dr. Busino is located in Albany, New York. I came very close to visiting the doctor myself to get it done, but decided against it. First of all, from the pictures I had seen, and the stories I had heard, it seemed that the laser method allowed the tongue to heal back together quite a bit. My life also became incredibly busy at the time, and I found myself constantly postponing the procedure. Eventually, I completely forgot. The next time I had the opportunity to visit [A href="http://www.stevehaworth.com/"]Steve Haworth[/A] in Phoenix, Arizona, I met 2 people that had their tongues split by Steve also using the fishing line method. The opportunity to view, firsthand, the end result, and being able to witness no speech distortion, I decided that one day soon, I too would have two tongues.

Always end the name of your child with a vowel, so that when you yell the name will carry.

Ewww.  I would think any kind of normal speech would be out of the question.

You're right, PC. We used our tongues to form speeches. I can't imagine someone with a split tongue being able to talk coherently but maybe that's what that person wants to anyways. To stand apart even if it means talking funny.

Oh yes. It's done to a perfectly formed tongue. What you do is split it apart with a surgical knife then pull the two ends so they won't fused and heal together. It's really scary stuff.

People do that for whatever reasons, "tribal"... to belong to a group. etc. etc.

I would think having a piercing in the back of my throat like that would always make me feel like I needed to cough.  Yak !
