Looking at the camera shots of highways in Seattle it doesnt look like a storm. Or was it cleaning that caused DS to go down?

Like Ted Stevens said, the tubes got all clogged up with some big internets that people were sending back and forth.

 
The real trouble with reality is that there's no background music.

No, the server didn't crash. The ISP had an connectivity outage that affected a lot of sites and this was one of them.
