LOL  White Rapper......and yet so many of us can actually say what we want to say, without even wearing a hat.  [img style="CURSOR: pointer" onclick=url(this.src); src="http://www.cheesebuerger.de/images/smilie/musik/g020.gif" border=0]      Surely there must be forums where he could find someone who talks that language....there seems to be something for everyone.

I also love the New Amsterdam Cafe and the fact that it exists!

It helped in the early days to fix the calendar, and it caused Egyptian priests to chronicle ecplipses with such care that in time they were able to predict them. These two services I am prepared to acknowledge, but I do not know of any others

Pardon my ignorance....but what is PDX.  (warning.....if the answer is emabarassingly obvious, I may be forced to remove this post....lol)

Sorry, that's Portlander's shorthand for our city. (from the airport tag)

Ah....thanks.    Well I suppose Vancouver is pretty expensive, but there are so many areas outside of 'city limits' that are more affordable and just as beautiful.  I was born and raised in Van, but move to Vancouver Island several years ago.  One can still buy ocean front acreage for the same price as a downtown condo in Vancouver over here.  Much slower paced and laid back.  I wept for 6 months when I first moved here.....now there's not enough money on the planet that would make me move back.

Wow! We had thought a lot about Vancouver Isle but figured that it would be too secluded. There are a lot of great land and house bargains in BC outside the Van area. That was the intitial attraction for us. But we discovered that we really are city folk at heart and like being around big city stuff. But we're still kind of culturally schizophrenic, we can't decide whether we want to get away from it all or in the middle of it all

So where on the island do you live P.C.

That's funny FC.   I like to think of Vancouver Island as 'Being away from it all WHILE you're in the middle of it'.  What I mean is, to borrow Kittens phrase....we live in 'splendid isolation'.....beautiful forested property, and less than 10 minutes to a small town ....20 minutes from a bigger town....30 minutes to a city, and an hour and a half to the mainland.  It may not suit everybody, but I've surely found my home.

That sounds great! I'll give it a second look. Any cool little communities within driving distance to Victoria? (my wife would prefer to be near a good university)

BC = Heaven

The only part of the world that can match B.C.'s beauty is Norway.

[/a]Man, that brings back some memories. I used to go to Victoria frequently in the 80's and 90's to do some work at a few places. Know where the Forestry Research Center is on Burnside? I installed their electron microscope back in the 80's. And I did the hospital's TEM as well. Can't remeber the name of the place though.
I don't live on the edge, but sometimes I go there to visit.
