More attempts to intimidate the press and shut them up....

The NY Times is reporting on a statement from US Attorney General Alberto Gonzales declaring that [a href="http://www.nytimes.com/2006/05/22/washington/22gonzales.html"]journalists may be prosecuted by the federal government[/a] for publishing classified information.

On the First Amendment ramifications: "'But it can't be the case that that right trumps over the right that Americans would like to see, the ability of the federal government to go after criminal activity,' he said. 'And so those two principles have to be accommodated.'"

So let me get this right....our First Amendment rights don't trump the right of the federal government to violate them?
The real trouble with reality is that there's no background music.

And to think that, 35 short years ago, a similar case brought down the Nixon administration.

It's a sad commentary that BushCo can openly thumb their noses at us, and that we're perfectly aware of the fact that they can get away with it.
